  1. Looking at our established players, I'd have to reluctantly choose Davis as captain. He's had the armband before and everyone respects him, but he's not exactly vocal and he doesn't really lead. He's the best of a terrible bunch of options.
  2. Because there was no pressure at the Gerland, while there was nothing but at Ibrox. Teams can be better when not under pressure to get a result. Kaunas was terrible but the team we put out that day was pretty awful.
  3. Well Walter was a rookie and it led to 9iar? I don't know how I feel about Ally, as I have said in this thread. All I can say is I'm behind him 100% and hope he can hit the ground running. We can't afford another PLG.
  4. So would you have expected a big name foreigner, a home grown manager...who?
  5. Why is he considering given how keen he supposedly was to come? Is his agent twisting things?
  6. Saw a post on Twitter saying Hemed is going to take the weekend to make up his mind about joining Rangers. If that's true it's very odd - I thought he was desperate to join.
  7. Walter and the team were pretty diabolical in Europe in 9iar bar 92/93. There are no excuses for that. But I feel it was a lack of overall experience at that level which caused us to be so poor. Walter learned a great deal at national level and his second spell saw victories over Lyon, Stuttgart, a draw with Barca, victory over Bursaspor, and a draw at OT. Not to mention the Uefa Cup run. What are your feelings about Ally?
  8. I'd have had him indefinitely. Don't get me wrong, I know he had his flaws - he was not a perfect manager. But how well he did in his second spell given the travesty of PLG and the excruciating end to Eck was a stunning turn around. He knew the SPL better than anyone else and even up against a cash rich Celtic with a huge squad managed to win the league. The truth is what did you expect from us? Barcelona? PLG tried that open football and was torn to pieces in the SPL. In the state we ended up in, Walter Smith was a better manager than we could realistically afford. He's the only manager to have got us to a European final and within a point of the CL final. Now we go into an uncertain era with a rookie manager who's got everyone's support but no one knows how good he will be. For all I know he'll play astonishing football and we'll be 80 points clear after 3 matches. But at this time, the stabilising hands of Walter will be missed.
  9. I think your reason 4 rather leaves a sour taste in the mouth tbh. Agree with the rest.
  10. He seemed overjoyed at the idea of coming back to us.
  11. Davis, great though he is, is no leader. And re: Naisy - moaning at everyone doesn't make you a good leader. It just makes you a moaner. We don't have anyone obvious to be new captain. Which is slightly concerning tbh.
  12. So Cuellar wants to leave but Eck won't let him. Interesting...
  13. I didn't know how to feel when I saw him on the football years...
  14. Kirk is an honest player who really was summed up by that comment of 'limited ability'. He's the epitome of a journeyman who grafts hard and works like a dog, but if you want composed classy defending then look elsewhere. If he is our first choice next season in central defence something's gone badly wrong somewhere.
  15. They do think they can get away with such meagre offers, but that said Whittaker isn't really worth much more than a million. tbh, this is the crap we used to pull. We used to go in with really rubbish offers hoping to nick players for way less than than they were worth. In fact, we tried it as recently as January with a £600k bid for Goodwillie.
  16. Sent. Easier than I thought it would be.
  17. Yes, I have had that error many times on here before.
  18. Really, really don't like it. Saw it a week or so ago and was pretty appalled.
  19. Not sure why you're saying 'feck him'!
  20. I say Celtic got lucky, and 7k is dirt cheap. I don't blame this guy for wanting a better wage.
  21. 7k a week. Bloody hell that's cheap.
  22. Eck doesn't really come out of this one smelling of roses. When they got relegated he was quite sure he was going to stay. Mind you, it's not the first time he's said one thing then u-turned shortly afterwards.
  23. Given is an absolutely world class goalkeeper. He's better than McGregor imho albeit I love McGregor. I don't understand why City made Hart #1. And I would absolutely hate Celtic to get Given.
  24. Not that bothered about Vaughan.
  25. It's amazing how many players are being called our 'top priority'. But the signing of Cuellar would be absolutely immense.
