Rangers fans have been hit with a one match away ban by UEFA after the governing body found the club guilty on two charges of discriminatory behaviour by their supporters. UEFA have also imposed further suspended sentences for one away game and one home match, which will remain in place for three years. A fine has also been handed down to the club totalling 80,000 Euros (£71,213). The away bans on Rangers, which will also prevent their future opponents selling tickets to away fans, relates to the charge imposed following the away leg of their Europa League tie against PSV Eindhoven on March 10. The suspended home match sentence relates to a charge brought about following their home game in the same tie on March 17. Separate fines of 40,000 Euros have been administered for each charge. The club have three days to submit an appeal in writing but are yet to indicate whether they will do so. A statement from UEFA on Thursday confirmed: "The UEFA Control and Disciplinary body meeting today in Nyon has confirmed the following sanctions against Rangers FC after the two legs against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Europe League round of 16. "Following a charge of discriminatory behaviour at the first leg match against PSV Eindhoven on March 10 2011, Rangers FC have been fined 40,000 Euros and the club is restricted from selling any tickets to its supporters for two away matches in UEFA club competitions, with the respective home clubs also not authorised to sell tickets to Rangers FC supporters. "This ban applies to Rangers FCâs next away match and is suspended for the second away match for a probationary period of three years. "The Control and Disciplinary Body also fined the Scottish club a further 40,000 Euros for discriminatory behaviour at the second leg match on 17 March and ordered Rangers FC to play their next home UEFA club competition match behind closed doors. This sanction is however deferred for a probationary period of three years." Rangers were initially charged by UEFA on April 7 after reports of sectarian chanting by the club's travelling supporters during the Europa League game with PSV Eindhoven on March 10. The appointed match delegate, Geir Thorsteinsson, made reference to the singing in his report, which was then followed up by evidence from Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE). On April 14, UEFA then announced they had also charged the club following a report from FARE of further discriminatory singing in the return leg of the fixture, which was held at Ibrox on March 17. UEFA's own match delegate, William Campbell, did not include such allegations in his report. http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/rangers/245780-uefa-impose-one-match-away-ban-on-rangers/

No no no BD,it's the Union Flag that is offensive to them, not the passport or public Holiday they will get,or the overtime rate if they have to work,do they get a bonus with their giro as well?.

Rangers braced for Uefa verdict on sectarian chanting charges
ian1964 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
RANGERS will fight sectarian charges at UEFA today - knowing a defeat could see Ibrox closed for MORE than two games. The SPL champs have been targeted over fans' chants at two Europa League clashes with PSV. Anti-racism group FARE lodged a damning report with European football's governing body. If Gers hadn't launched the challenge, led by chief executive Martin Bain, Ibrox would have been closed for two home Euro ties next season. If they lose today's hearing in Switzerland, UEFA could even increase the punishment. And that could cost hard-up Gers in excess of £3million next term. But senior sources last night insisted they had to launch a robust defence. An insider said: "Rangers are challenging the way UEFA's gone about this and challenging the prosecution case. The basis is that both are based largely on FARE reports. "The integrity of the evidence must be challenged as Rangers' legal team had no access to the person who wrote the report. FARE's assertion that the 'majority' of Gers fans were singing these songs had to be challenged. "No one at Rangers has ever said that sectarian singing is not a problem but the claims must be put into perspective as the singing was not widespread or sustained." The club is NOT allowed to attend the hearing and expect a verdict around 6pm. If UEFA hammer Gers, they will launch an appeal which would be heard within three weeks. Meanwhile, the Rangers Supporters Trust has hit back at their Dundee United counterparts after they reported fans for alleged sectarian singing at Tannadice last week. The RST issued a statement accusing United fans of using the term 'Hun' on Arabtrust websites. It said: "There's no doubt it is an offensive sectarian insult." CRAIG WHYTE will race against the clock today to finally buy Rangers. The tycoon wants the £33 million deal finalised before the country shuts for the Royal Wedding. London's stock market closes at 4pm today and is then closed on Friday for Kate and Wills' big day and also Monday due to a bank holiday. And a source said: "Everyone is working around the clock to get the deal finalised. "He wants it done before the wedding and the stock market closes. "He knows if it is not completed today it will rumble on until next week. "Everything is almost in place. The deal is almost done." Whyte, 39, is on the brink of taking over the Ibrox club. The takeover has sped up after the Rangers board officially gave him the thumbs up. Gers chairman Alistair Johnston is in America but that should not hold up the transaction. Whyte convinced the board of his buy-out after talks following the Old Firm clash on Sunday. He has vowed to give new boss Ally McCoist a £10 million close-season transfer war chest. Rangers braced for Uefa verdict on sectarian chanting charges
ian1964 posted a topic in Rangers Chat
Published Date: 28 April 2011 By Stephen Halliday RANGERS are bracing themselves for the verdict of Uefa's Control and Disciplinary Body today when it rules on two charges of "discriminatory behaviour" by supporters of the Scottish champions. The Ibrox club were reported to Uefa by independent organisation Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) for alleged sectarian chanting by fans at both legs of their Europa League round of 16 tie against PSV Eindhoven in March. Rangers are vigorously defending the charges, although they are not entitled to appear at the hearing, which will take place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon. Chief executive Martin Bain has compiled a written submission, which will be considered. Rangers have pointed out that Uefa's own match delegates, Iceland's Geir Thorsteinsson and William Campbell of Northern Ireland, who attended the fixtures, in Eindhoven on 10 March and at Ibrox seven days later, respectively, did not call for any charges to be brought. If found guilty, Rangers could face a sanction ranging from a substantial fine to the closure of Ibrox for a number of their European games next season or even a suspension from European competition. Previous Uefa charges brought over the behaviour of Rangers supporters in recent years have increased the club's fears of a more severe punishment on this occasion. In 2006, the Ibrox club were fined £13,300 for discriminatory chanting by fans in a Champions League round of 16 tie against Villarreal and a further £9,000 for an attack on the Spanish team's bus. A year later, they were fined £8,280 because of crowd disorder at a Uefa Cup tie against Osasuna in Spain. Then in 2009, they received an £18,000 fine for crowd trouble during a Champions League match against Unirea Urziceni in Bucharest. The nine men of Uefa's Control and Disciplinary Body will decide Rangers' fate, which they expect to learn late this afternoon. The committee is chaired by Dr Thomas Partl of the Austrian FA. There are three vice-chairman in Danish FA chief executive Jim Stjerne Hansen, Jacques Anternen of Switzerland and Hungary's Sandor Berzi. The remaining members are Football Association of Ireland chief executive John Delaney, Dr Rainer Koch of the German FA, Romania's Ioan Angelo Lupesco, Joel Wolff of Luxembourg and Spain's Emilio Garcia Silvero. http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Rangers-braced-for-Uefa-verdict.6759011.jp -

EX-MP George Galloway is threatening to sue a Rangers fans' website over allegations punters made defamatory claims that he is anti-Jewish. The politician, 56, has told the Follow Follow messageboard to apologise, give an undertaking the comments will not be repeated and pay his lawyers' bill - or he'll sue. Yesterday letters warning of the threat were delivered. Mr Galloway's spokesman Ron McKay said: "Unless they do this a writ will be issued. He's successfully sued in the past for this. He is anti-Israeli, not anti-Jewish." In 2008 a Jewish radio station in London went bust after being forced to pay the then Respect MP £15,000 for a similar slur. Mr Galloway, who is standing in next week's Scottish election, is also suing the Canadian government for £1million over a travel ban in 2009 that was later overturned. Follow Follow operators Footy Mad declined to comment. Read more: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/3548833/Galloway-threat-to-sue-Gers-fans-site.html#ixzz1KiLPF9Ur

ALAN THOMPSON has claimed cops should have hammered Rangers fans for hurling "horrendous" abuse at Neil Lennon. The Celtic coach admitted he was gobsmacked that police failed to take action during Sunday's Old Firm clash at Ibrox. He blasted: "I heard some horrendous things going up the tunnel at the end. It's staggering that people can shout some of the things they did." Hoops boss Lennon - under 24-hour protection after sickening death threats - was quizzed by police for cupping his ears to the Gers fans at the end of the 0-0 draw. But Thompson reckons it was the RANGERS fans who should have come under scrutiny after showering Lennon with abuse. He told SunSport: "The fans seem to be able to say what they want and get away with it. "I was two feet in front of Neil and was surprised that nothing was done, especially with such a large police presence in that vicinity." Strathclyde Police won't be taking complaints about Lennon's gesture any further after speaking to him about the incident. And Thompson defended his under-fire manager adding: "For Neil to only put his hands to his ears considering what was said, I can't see a problem with that. "I scored a penalty at Ibrox once and did the same thing. It's just a reaction. "I thought it was fairly humorous on Neil's part. I don't think there was any malice there."
