  1. FENERBAHCE will battle Newcastle to sign Rangers star Kris Boyd. The Turkish giants have joined the race for the striker after a SEX SCANDAL rocked the club. Fenerbahce sporting director Aykut Kocaman was in Scotland last week to run the rule over Boyd. Kocaman has now given the go-ahead for a £1.5million bid to be launched following the sex scandal that has stunned Turkey. Hitman Colin Kazim-Richards was transfer-listed by Fenerbahce boss Christoph Daum - along with fellow stars Vederson, Fabio Bilica and Santos after they organised marathon romps in an Istanbul hotel. Former Sheffield United star Kazim-Richards has been a big hit since moving to Istanbul, and played for Turkey at Euro 2008. But Daum - who was himself involved in cocaine-fuelled orgies with prostitutes in 2000 when he was Bayer Leverkusen coach - has insisted the four players are finished at his club. And that could open the door for a bid for Boyd as they need to bring in new players. Daum said: "I'm absolutely shocked to find out these kinds of things are happening. I never expected Fenerbahce players to be involved in something like this." Daum is also ready to dump flop hitman Daniel Guiza. The Spaniard has failed to settle in Turkey and Daum reckons Boyd will fare better. But the German coach faces a battle to land his man, with Newcastle boss Chris Hughton also weighing up a move for the Ibrox goal machine. It's understood that the Toon hierarchy have already sounded out sources close to Boyd over a January switch to the Coca-Cola Championship leaders. Boyd, who is out of contract in the summer, has not been offered a new deal by Gers. And while a move to Newcastle would mean less upheaval, the money on offer in Turkey would be far greater. Birmingham City - who had a £3.5m offer for Boyd accepted by Gers 12 months ago - remain interested with clubs in Germany also tracking the striker. Trabzonspor are also keen and we can reveal that the Turkish club plan to send a delegation to Tannadice on Tuesday to check on Boyd. Sporting director Unal Karaman will fly into Scotland and watch the 26-year-old in action against Dundee United before trying to convince him his future lies with his side. Advertisement Whatever offer Rangers are finally able to put to their top scorer it is unlikely to match the lucrative contracts Newcastle and the big-spending Turkish clubs are preparing to table. That would mean Boyd's days at Ibrox are numbered. Gers gaffer Walter Smith is desperate to keep Boyd, who reached 151 career SPL goals at Falkirk last week. Smith last night confessed: "I don't know if bids will come in for him - that's out of our hands, isn't it? "We've now started talking to Boyd's agent with regard to a new contract. "But other aspects are totally dependent on other clubs, so I don't know. "We can't determine whether we are going to get a bid for him or not, but if we do then obviously we would need to consider it." http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/2769085/Turks-fight-Toon-for-Boyd.html

  5. Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has been angered by comments made by Rangers' Martin Bain in the row over admission for a rearranged fixture. United are charging half-price on 15 December following the abandonment of the clubs' meeting on 1 November. The Ibrox chief executive was quoted saying he was "disgusted and angry at the attitude of Dundee United". And a furious Thompson told BBC Scotland: "I think Martin's behaviour has been disgraceful." The visitors were leading the Premier League match 1-0 at half-time when referee Mike Tumelty called a halt to proceedings due to a waterlogged pitch. Thompson insisted fans were never told their original ticket stubs would be valid for the replay and reduced pricing for the rescheduled match was a fair reflection of the operational costs incurred by the Tayside club. MY SPORT: DEBATE Give your reaction to this story In response, Rangers released a statement expressing their disappointment at the decision. At Rangers annual meeting on Monday, Bain was quizzed by shareholders about the on-going squabble. "We did take up the fight because I was disgusted and angry at the attitude of Dundee United," was his reported response. "The game was called off at half-time and I was standing beside the chief executive of the Scottish Premier League (Neil Doncaster) and the chairman of Dundee United (Thompson) and I said to them at that time, 'I hope that you will see sense and make sure that our supporters retain their ticket stubs and get back in for nothing'." However, Thompson denies that Bain ever said this in his company. "It is interesting that Martin Bain was disgusted and annoyed with Dundee United over tickets but never used such strong language after Manchester or Bucharest about his own fans," added the United chairman in reference to crowd disturbances involving followers of Rangers. 7. It is reasonable to think that the agent has not informed him though
  8. I know at the AGM we were told by the chairman that renaming ibrox was not an option, but surely if someone wanted to hand out a fair amount of money to do this it would make sense to consider it ?, I don't mean get rid of the name Ibrox. Thoughts ?.

  12. Not sure if this is tongue in cheek, but are you suggesting Boyd needs to trim down a bit ?, if so then I would have to disagree.

  17. CELTIC want to transform the area around their stadium and link it with other venues that will be used during the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The clubââ?¬â?¢s long-term vision for the area around its stadium will be revealed this week. Officials have submitted a masterplan for ââ?¬Å?The Celtic Triangleââ?¬Â and it is expected to secure approval from city councillors on Friday. The plans include the creation of bars and restaurants around Celtic Park, a new club museum, walkways linking it with other 2014 venues, a plaza and the potential for a new hotel, casino or shops. It also has proposals for housing. No costs have been revealed and club officials insist the project will depend on its economic viability, but the deadline of summer 2014 ââ?¬â?? when Glasgow hosts the Games ââ?¬â?? will put pressure on the club to deliver some of the vision across the next 36 months. Celtic Park will host the opening ceremony of the Games and city councillors are concerned that the area around the stadium ââ?¬Å?does not provide an attractive settingââ?¬Â. They said ââ?¬Å?the current situation is not acceptable with regard to the councilââ?¬â?¢s ambitions to host a world-class event for the 2014 Gamesââ?¬Â. Celticââ?¬â?¢s plans will also tie in with a new four-lane carriageway that will cut through the East End linking the M74 and M8 via London Road. The East End Regeneration Route will cut through land used as a coach park, leading to an agreement between Celtic and Glasgow City Council over matchday access to the car park of the new National Indoor Sports Arena. The vision would initially see: * The refurbishment and extension of the Victorian London Road Primary School to incorporate a restaurant, cafe and bar, as well as a new club museum. * Landscaping of the immediate area around Celtic Park. * The creation of a plaza space. Phase two would see ââ?¬Å?a new landmark buildingââ?¬Â on the site where the East End Regeneration Route meets London Road ââ?¬Å?creating an iconic gateway to the stadium areaââ?¬Â, with early ideas including a hotel, more restaurants and bars, a casino and shops. A council report detailing the plan says: ââ?¬Å?It is recognised that the design of the new buildings at this location should be of the highest standard to reflect the importance of this corner of the triangle as a key gateway to the site, particularly on the approach from the East End Regeneration Route.ââ?¬Â A further phase, expected to be completed by 2014 and considered by the council ââ?¬Å?to be the most critical element of the public realm strategyââ?¬Â, would see walkways linking the stadium to the route and the Indoor Arena. The plan claims there is potential for a residential development to the west of the stadium and at the corner of Springfield Road and London Road, as well as ââ?¬Å?further small-scale commercial or light industrial developmentââ?¬Â to the north. The report, which is calling for council approval in principle this Friday, states: ââ?¬Å?It is recognised that market conditions may influence future land use proposals with regard to these more long-term ambitions for the site and these aspects of the masterplan will develop in discussion between the city council and Celtic FC.ââ?¬Â Strathclyde Police was consulted on crowd control issues and Celtic officials also had talks with the National Counter Terrorism Security Office and the Hostile Vehicle Mitigation Course over safety matters. The police are said to have broadly welcomed the proposal because it will improve crowd management on matchdays, while Archi*tecture and Design Scot*land, which advises the Govern*ment on ways to get better quality in design and architecture in the public and private sectors, said the plan would address the poor setting of the stadium. A Celtic spokesman said: ââ?¬Å?Clearly, this proposal is very preliminary and has a long, long way to go. ââ?¬Å?We are working with Glasgow City Council and Clyde Gateway in a sensible and pragmatic manner but ultimately, the project will depend on a range of factors, including of course, economic viability.ââ?¬Â Councillor George Ryan, who is responsible for business and the economy, said: ââ?¬Å?We are interested in the details of this masterplan, which could contribute to the regeneration of the East End, and we are keen to see the first phases of the project delivered before the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.ââ?¬Â http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/editor-s-picks-ignore/celts-big-plan-for-paradise-1.990425
  18. I disagree with this. While we don't have much chance of winning this game, we at least have to go and try and compete and hopefully get a result. Resting first team players and playing young players will not help us in any way,IMO, WS needs to play his best team to try and show a bit of pride,if any of our first team players were to get injured then I'd be quite confident that any young players coming into the team for an SPL game would stand a better chance than against experienced, quality European players

  21. This had me laughing today: "Can I make a comment about Dr Reid's remarks at the Celtic AGM... He referred to the Rangers presbytarian connections and background, and used this against us. Could I remind Dr Reid, that is this background and the continued following of our Presbytarian beliefs that have made Rangers FC, and Ibrox a safe place for children."
  22. Bain said today,in response to a question regarding Boyd, that he is in the process of speaking to Boyds' agent,as well as all other players, and we don't NEED to sell
  23. HE lifted his shirt and showed off his torso. But what was hidden deep inside was that Kris Boyd's stomach was churning. The Rangers No 9 had just netted against Falkirk to notch yet another remarkable career landmark - 150 goals in the SPL. But the magnificent feeling of personal achievement was quickly swept aside... by FEAR. Boyd is at the club of his dreams, but with January looming large the living nightmare for him is now fast approaching. Rangers did their best to sell their prized asset 12 months ago and the hitman is wary that the same thing could happen again. Which is why the country's most prolific striker can't help celebrate every Gers goal without thinking it could be his LAST. Boyd, who went on to make it 151 against Bairns, said: "I don't think I can look too far ahead at this precise moment. "Right now I'm proud to pull on that jersey and run out for Rangers. It means everything to me. "But looking ahead long-term is something I simply can't do. "I do wonder whenever I score if that'll be my last Rangers goal. "I hope it's not the case and I believe I have plenty more Rangers goals in me. But that's the reality. "The January transfer window is fast approaching. I aim to add to my tally but I take every game one at a time these days. The club tried to sell me once, so who is to say it won't happen again? "You never know what's around the corner. It's the same for everyone at the club. From the manager down, nobody knows what's happening behind the scenes. "It's actually something which makes me really appreciate getting to 150 league goals in the SPL. It's a good achievement for me." Boyd shrugs off defenders easily, but his critics are harder to get rid of. Despite those 151 SPL goals, he still divides opinion like few other players in the country. The accusation is that he can't hack it against bigger and better teams at home and in Europe. The missed chance against Stuttgart in the last Champions League defeat gave them ammunition. But Boyd added: "To be brutally honest I feel I was written off even before I was given a chance. "Everyone seemed to have an opinion about me. It's like when people say I can't perform in the big games. Why can't I? Advertisement "Sure, I've missed chances when we've played in Europe and against Celtic, but for me that proves nothing. "If I was walking off these games without getting those chances, I'd be worried. "But it's basically been bad finishing that's stopped the goals coming in the bigger games. I know I can score goals at any level, it's not a problem for me. "Stuttgart, Seville, Celtic - I've had chances against them all. Going right back to the beginning, I missed one against Villarreal. "I might have missed when it's mattered, but I can handle that. Getting the opportunities proves to me I can handle it at that level. "On another night I could have scored twice against Stuttgart. I just don't think of the missed chances, I think of the chances I get on the end of." There is no doubt Boyd has improved his all-round game in recent months. His hold-up play is ten times better, with the striker now not just satisfied when he's scoring goals. He added: "Since I've come here my scoring record has been good. I've had my ups and downs like everyone else, but I feel that I've started to find some decent form. "I'm enjoying my football and really feel as though I'm helping the team out a lot more. "I believe I've grown up a lot in the last few months. "Maybe there was a time when I felt goals were enough, but that's not the way it is. The most important thing is the team winning and being a team player. "Maybe completing my coaching badges helped me in that regard. "Maybe I've got away with it in the past because I've scored the amount of goals I have - but I really don't think some of the criticism has been fair. "The way football is in this country there are so many people out there with an opinion looking to make a name for themselves. "When it comes from ex-players it's disappointing. "One person says I can't play up front on my own, for instance, and then another person jumps on that. All of a sudden it's public opinion. "That's the way Scotland is these days. People write you off before you're given a proper chance. "The fact is I've never doubted I could handle playing at the highest level - it was just about working harder to show that." Boyd's 17th minute strike against Falkirk, his 150th in the SPL, seems a long time since he netted his first for Kilmarnock back in November 2001 against Motherwell. He added: "Getting that first goal was a big thing for me. "I'm sure Alan Mahood played a ball down the line and someone cut it back for me to score. "There is nothing better than walking off the park having helped the team win by scoring a goal or two. "It's no different from the way the fans feel. Whenever I score at Ibrox I look up and know I've made 50,000 feel happy. That's a great thing to be able to do." Now Boyd's next target is Henrik Larsson's record 158 SPL goals. He added: "I want to be the top goalscorer in the SPL. I want to beat Larsson's record. "He was a tremendous player, a talent everyone admired. There's no doubt he was one of the greatest ever to play in Scotland. "If I could beat his tally, it'd be something special for me." http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/2760431/I-fear-every-goal-I-score-will-be-my-last.html
