Rangers 0 : 0 Panathinaikos - Player Ratings and MoM Poll
Frankie replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
stewarty: I thought Ferguson was awful last night compared to his usual standards (which have slipped generally this season). He looked disinterested and when he did get on the ball his passing was ineffective. Davis, Hemdani and Adam all offered more in terms of quality and work-rate so all received more points. -

No... Maybe as a sub, yes but not as a lone striker. We should play 2 strikers tonight - Boyd and Naismith.

Utter claptrap - again. All views are welcomed - you even apologised for saying they weren't earlier. If the forum is that bad, why do you keep coming back. Grow up, son.

Who said you couldn't?

There is nothing wrong with pushing our identity as a proud British club from Scotland. If you don't subscribe to that background that's perfectly fine - no-one makes you do so, but if the club and some fans want to remember our traditions and background then I'm astounded anyone wants to declare that unsuitable. I couldn't care less about Protestantism, the monarchy or the Union. I also see myself as Scottish before being British. But I respect the fact the club I chose to support when I was a wee boy (because of my favourite colour blue) does have such aspects in in it's history. I enjoy little nuances such as the Queen's dressing room portraits, the Loving Cup ceremony and the fact patriotic fans from far flung places still relate to the Union flag and combine their love of their country with their love of Rangers. It provides character and originality to our club in Scotland. It makes us one of the most followed clubs in the country. Plenty people still identify with this background. That background and heritage doesn't need to filed away in a drawer because it may not be as valid for all nowadays. Rangers FC means different things to different people. Nowadays we're one of the most cosmopolitan clubs in world football and welcome all to partake in it. That should celebrated along with being proud of our history.

Not sure if it was online or not. I'll try and find it.

Of course problems in our play can be worked on. And I'm sure the players realise that as well. A few of them have admitted as such in interviews lately. It's definitely a case of substance over style right now but once we win the league, we can look towards improving the product on show.
-
I'm not trying to brush anything under the carpet. Rangers and our fans have worked very hard in recent years to put previous problems behind us. Yet, some still seem to want to complain about anything. Union flags and funny puns about rival fans shouldn't be confused with real problems either in football or society in general.
-
Yes, and did you watch Celtic on a decent surface against us at Ibrox earlier this season. They were crap. We also created loads of chances on Saturday and could easily have scored 7 goals but for good saves from their goalie. Swings and roundabouts.

Money doesn't always sllow for perfection. That's just the market they operate in and while I'm sure they're delighted by their recompense for what they do, I sincerely doubt they are counting their cash in their garage while laughing at us moaning about them not controlling a couple of passes that day. If you're so disappointed by the quality on offer there are options available to you...

Lots of factors can be attributed to such mistakes - weather conditions, pitch conditions, pressure from opposition players, pressure from knowing we need to win every game and pressure from fans who won't accept the odd bad touch. There's no doubt we need to improve but let's keep our criticism realistic given our position in the competitions this season.
-
Of course they should be able to do the basics correctly. And they can - that's why they are playing OK and we are winning. Improvement is always desirable but none of us are above mistakes.

If people are nationalist then that's perfectly fine. Sing Flower of Scotland and fly the saltire... Not sure what you're offended by cal.. Football is tribal. and it does reflect social choices quite often. That's what makes the sport so inviting, attending games so exhilarating and losing titles so upsetting. It's life. I make no apology for being a Rangers fan and see no reason why we need to question our own history and background just because someone may not subscribe to it. Like I say, what's next? Blue strips to be removed in case fans who prefer the colour pink don't like it.
-
If no-one believes our motives, why waste time reasoning or attempting to appease them then? There's no way banners of the Union flag with RSC names or tongue-in-cheek banners about being behind enemy lines are offensive. For anyone to suggest so is really quite bizarre. Just how sanitised do some want to make life? What's next to remove - the colour blue from our strips?
-
It's a good point. One can't go to Ibrox without watching live EPL games and talking about the latest European clash. As such it's easy to compare our league negatively with others. Even if the British style of football was successful in the past and has been recently (to a smaller degree) again (see Liverpool, Celtic and Man Utd) who all used a direct style to reach their finals.
-
Rangers are a club with many proud Unionist links. See the recent toast of the Loving Cup for proof of that. If some choose to incorporate their support of the Union or the monarchy in the way they follow the club then that's fine by me. Just as it's fine for others not to.
-
Nothing to do with catholics - more to do with the RSC being outnumbered by Celtic fans. The banner's slogan was based on a pun on an Irish newspaper article about the RSC. It's funny and no-one should take it seriously. For it to be banned is ridiculous.
-
I'm quite happy with our form. It's not spectacular and it's not glamorous but if it wins us the SPL I'll be happy. Then we can work on the finer points of our system.
-
Carlos the tackle is superb actually... I'm sure some would spin it into support for terrorists though. Either that or the club would ban any reference to it. Welcome to the forum mate.

Apology accepted...

Really enjoying this lad's contribution this season. Nowadays, ~£2.3million and £15-20K per week in wages is a lot of money for our club and any transfer is risky - not least when a player is coming from a league where the style of play and defending can be different from the SPL. Add in the changes in culture, language and weather, i's not always easy for new players to settle quickly - even if they are expensive ones with reasonable experience. As such, considering the Spaniard's form this season, I think we have every right to be delighted with the consistency and quality he's offered generally. He seemed to find a good understanding with Davie Weir very quickly and I think his solid, unselfish nature allowed Alan Hutton to express himself offensively to the level we witnessed before his big move. I'd contend the best part of Cuellar's game is his positioning and anticipation so this allows others to feel safe that he'll put his defensive duties before anything else. Of course it's not all been good news. The big man did struggle against Hearts earlier in the season and also didn't look too hot against Gretna and Hibs lately. I also think he sometimes struggles when defending set-pieces with regard to man-marking. His distribution can also be inconsistent. However, once again on Saturday he was by and large extremely solid and made two last gasp tackles on the edge of our box to help secure the points. Overall, what we have here is a very reliable defender. Off-the-field he also seems extremely professional and his attitude is as positive as I've seen for a while for an ambitious, quality player at our club. No public dreams of big EPL moves and agent rumours yet - touch wood! Unfortunately, going by his form, as was the case with Hutton, we may well be unable to keep him long term but he does represent a huge asset in playing and financial terms in the mean-time. To conclude, this is the kind of player we should be looking to sign in the summer. Affordable, good attitude, consistent and of a high quality. Virtues that have been missing for far too long in our scouting but will be essential if we've to move forward in the coming months and years.

Striker Boyd standing at crossroads in Rangers career
Frankie replied to Jon's topic in Rangers Chat
We should play the same team on Wednesday night as we did at the weekend with Naismith in for JCD.... -
Nah, not a chance. Walter Smith is well aware of what the fans think of this potential signing. I doubt he'd take a gamble in this regard. Quite simply we already have better players than Miller at the club. Novo offers a similar style and is a better option IMO. If we're going to spend money in the summer, it won't be on Misser.

Wait one minute mate. Gersnet has never and will never allow opinions to be suppressed. By and large people can post what they want and debate what they want without any problems.
