The Summer 2023 Rangers Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

His stats are not just poor mate, they are utterly shit. Don't try and sugar coat it or anything. We must have scouted him very thoroughly if we believe he is worth the kind of money we are talking about, because on paper he is awful. -

Dude here going hard on the defence of a player no one knows. We are all going on stats, and the major ones for his role are not really just underwhelming, they are entirely at the wrong end of the scale. That doesn't mean he can't be a success, but of course I'm hardly excited to be signing a forward who hasn't been able to finish or assist for 3 years. -

4 goals and 2 assists over 3 seasons is underwhelming for a forward, yes. -

Lammers' stats are underwhelming to say the least. -

Obviously I'd like Cantwell to stay. However, thinking about this practically we all know there is a substantial rebuild required. The rumour is we've signed Dowell who is a similar type of player. If Cantwell were to go now for a large sum then financially it would be an incredible deal. Football wise it may allow for us to do a complete rebuild of the squad, and we potentially have already signed his replacement. obviously I don't want good players to leave, but equally we need to take a good profit when we can, otherwise it really hurts us long term.

Match Thread [FT] Rangers 3 (Cantwell 5'; Souttar 34'; Sakala 70') - 0 Celtic

It's nice to beat them in the moment but after that season I feel some anger inside to be honest. It's another example of what the squad can do when the pressure is off. Celtic probably learnt more from the match, their squad depth is not actually that strong. Will be glad to see the back of this season. Normally I'm massively hyped after winning an old firm match, but I just can't feel this one. -

I think it shows we've massively missed the boat and haven't managed to commit to our strategy. If you are offering players then you are looking at a cut price deal, which is a failure. -

It's a massive failure of Ross Wilson if we've progressed so far in Europe numerous times and yet we are resorting to offering players to clubs. -

I don't think there is anything wrong with liking a player that has had injury problems. -

I didn't take that, I read that he was at times crucial and their most important player that provides goals and assists, but he couldn't keep it up consistently due to injury. -

Not saying we were, but the model we are trying to use is buy low, get use out of the player, sell on. That is not happening, in fact we are releasing players on a free. -

Well, honestly the proper move would have been to sell Tav and keep Patterson. The player reading model seems to have gone out the window. -

I’ve been chatting with my Norwich supporting friend and he had this to say when I first spoke a few days back: Very good on his day, one of those attacking players who appears a bit of a passenger a lot of the time but then produces numbers when it matters, goals and assists. Whenever he’s had a run in the team he’s become one of our most important players. The problem is that it’s a rarity as he’s absent through injury a lot.” Then when I said the rumour is that we’ve signed him: “bit gutting actually as he is one we want to keep” So a different viewpoint, and not coming from message boards. -

At this stage it's easier to list the players worth keeping. For me, the below can stay (I realise not everyone will agree): - Tavernier (probably most controversial, but I think is still capable in the right team) - Goldson - Yilmaz (although I am struggling to see why we spent such a large amount of money on him) - Rankin - Cantwell - Jack - Matondo (I actually think when he gains confidence he may be worth something) - Colak (Not first pick but not a bad squad player) Thats seven players, not sure if I missed any. We have a lot of work to do. -
There is something in Matondo, we might get a player out of him yet.
-
Was that a knee injury? Dead cert we'll sign him if so.
-
This is why I think Tillman won't be staying. I like him as a player, but we have to spread our money thinly across the squad, and 5 million outlay won't do enough to change up the team. We could get two or three players of the calibre of Raskin and Cantwell for that.
-
I would be happy to give him credit for the goal, but it was a fluke. He didn’t look at the goal once, he looked across at the players running in to the box and then put his head down and kicked the ball.
-
I don't begrudge them at all, if you can't celebrate after winning a tough game then what's the point?
-
I can't believe Celtic are going to increase their lead on a weekend that they dropped points.
-
I think I agree.
-
Don't think you can say that about players who have just come in the last window and are having to play with serial losers.

Any time these guys have an opportunity to close the gap they wimp out.
