I thought he was abysmal. God knows what’s happened there.

From where it sits, I can understand the board being as patient as it dares but the directors risk the club becoming increasingly dysfunctional the longer this goes on. No one with an ounce of common sense believes GvB is going to turn this around or that these players are suddenly going to start performing for him - at the moment it doesn't look like they're even listening to him. Personally, I think this all stems from certain key shareholders looking to unload their investment, something that probably goes back to before Gerrard left and which grossly limited player recruitment this summer. If I'm right, this mess isn't going away any time soon and GvB may well be as much a victim of these circumstances as we feel ourselves to be. For that reason I'm very reluctant to get involved in crucifying our manager, who served this club well as a player and may well end up paying the price for the failings of others.

Match Thread [FT] St Johnstone 2 - 1 Rangers (Tavernier 74)

I actually think King has made a very decent start, especially having been thrown in a very deep end and without the benefit of an established partner in defence and often questionable protection from midfield. -
It's another disagreeable task. Clearly no one deserves praise and everyone was guilty of something but since the whole point of this is to choose someone and abstaining is silly, it would have to be one of the Americans, so Sands for me.

To be fair, we have no idea what the board is planning to do ... or why.
-
That's as may be but we're here to win the league and the hard reality is we've dropped 5 out of the last 9 points while our challenger has dropped 3 points all season. Results count, not a catalogue of excuses. Nothing I can see, including the return of injured players, is going to rescue another botched Premiership campaign.

You're right .... but the experience the 18 year Leon King is getting now may well make our defence stronger in the long run. It's the old dilemma, we want the develop youth but we wont give youth a chance to develop. Damned if we do, damned if we don't but I think we're gaining more than we're losing. -

Three league games played, five points dropped. Pretty much as expected.

I’m can’t believe how quickly this has come to a head. Anyway I don’t think there’s any way back now so, regardless of the cost, it’s probably best the board just gets on with it.

The best and most consistent winger since the war.

I don't know about that. He's the sort of man who might.

It's both. Replacing the manager on its own won't solve the problem any more than leaving him in place and replacing the players. The rot is through everything at the moment. Thank God we didn't spend more money last summer. -

The longer I watch this team the more convinced I am that our problem isn't lack of effort but a simple lack of ability. Whatever the potential or previous quality shown by these players, the plain fact is at the moment they are simply not good enough, individually or collectively. They've become losers and when that happens only radical changes can rescue the situation. Yet another title heading to Celtic. -

The issue isn't possession, our problem is doing nothing with it. Too many passengers in this team. -

I'd like to think so. -
I wonder how much that has set us back over the years?

The % of our aimless crosses that have no outcome must be huge, suggesting that you’re right about our attacking configuration ... or that incessantly looking for crosses with the current configuration is a complete waste of time.

If you mean I think words are specific rather than general then I’m guilty as charged. -

You'd like to think so but having players out of contract next summer who have little to play of isn't going to help. -
To be fair, the chart doesn't say they're brilliant, just less shit than the others in the list.

It might sound like it to you but it's actually completely different. Application is about how well you apply the skills, resources and experience at your disposal to meet a specific challenge. Your choice of "effort" implies only the devotion of more or less energy, which of course is meaningless unless you know whether your application is appropriate or competitive in the first place. There's little point trying harder if you're already doing the wrong thing, which it seems to me is what many fans are calling for. Try harder, make more effort, sweat more, run faster, run further ... all very commendable but little guarantee of making you more competitive against Napoli. We can have the team run around like blue-arsed demons but to compete in the CL we must first have players with the skills and intelligence to match our opponents. No amount of effort will change that and when the players you do have are so far below the calibre needed for the CL, it's hardly surprising when that realisation affects their "effort". That's all I'm saying.
