Sorry just been in the sticks for 2 days with no internet access......what did Naismith say?

He said that the uncertainty around what division the club were going to be playing in means he needs to move on, he wants to play at the highest level and even if rangers were in the SPL there would still be no european football. He has been advised to reject the transfer to sevco and is now a free agent.

Teario!

TEARFUL Steven Whittaker and Steven Naismith walked out on Rangers yesterday insisting: We HAD to go.

The Ibrox pair claimed they were left with no choice but to rip up their contracts after refusing to transfer to Charles Green’s newco.

Furious Green has now vowed to sue them — and has issued the same threat to other walkout stars Rhys McCabe, Sone Aluko and Kyle Lafferty.

That won’t put the brakes on an Ibrox revolt that is gathering pace ahead of Thursday’s return to training.

Naismith admitted he was quitting with a heavy heart but said: “It’s a tough decision but it’s the right one.

“There’s too much uncertainty at Rangers.

“We don’t know which division the club will be in or what will happen with the new company.

“I feel I’d be getting held back if I was to move down divisions.”

Whittaker choked back tears as he joined Naisy at a Glasgow hotel yesterday afternoon to explain the reasons behind his decision.

They revealed their intention to leave just 24 hours after boss Ally McCoist had rounded on the stars who are jumping ship.

McCoist claimed players were using the newco as an excuse to win a move.

Both Steven Davis and Allan McGregor, who along with Naismith are the most valuable assets, are understood to be considering their position.

New owner Green is seething as he watches the squad unravelling.

He fumed: “What is happening is that the players want to leave for nothing, thereby denying the club any transfer value at all.

“At the same time, players who are ready to breach their contracts want to secure handsome signing-on fees for other clubs, while Rangers get nothing.

“The players’ actions are all the more breathtaking given that virtually everyone else employed at the club has got on with the job since the CVA was refused and a new company had to be formed.”

And he has warned he will challenge them in the courts as he believes they cannot leave.

Green is due to meet with officials of the players’ union today.

He vowed: “The club is facing massive challenges in terms of its league status and the last thing the fans want to see is a dispute between the club and players.

“I can assure those players and clubs who may be interested in signing them that Rangers will seek damages for breach of contract and for inducement to break contracts.”

It emerged last night that Green had turned down an £8.7million takeover bid from Ibrox legend John Brown’s consortium.

The bid was lodged late on Friday night but it was dismissed without explanation by the Green regime’s lawyers yesterday.

The offer would have represented a quick profit of £3.2m for Green’s team but it was flatly rejected.

The thing I find most disappointing is that both Naisy & Whittaker claim that they want to play at the highest level, and that they were sick of the uncertainty.

Surely if that was the case, you hold off until the majority of the uncertainty is removed ie. next week!!!

I can fully understand top players not want to play in Div3, but there is still a slim chance that we'll be playing in the SPL next year. Until the vote is cast by the other teams, no-one knows whats happening and I would have preferred the players to wait until that vote is cast before going public with their decisions.

As for the not knowing...Naisy confirmed that he, his agent & CG had a meeting last Friday. Surely CG would have cleared up as much uncertainty as he could???

If he said I don't want to play in Div1/Div3 but I will move to newco and let the club get some sort of fee for me before I go, he would have left a legend and been welcomed back with open arms.

Instead he starts waffling about NewRangers no history I've no loyalty to NewRangers.

When Juve were relegated for non-football reasons in 2006 several truly world class players such as Del Piero, Nedved and Buffon all chose to stick with the club and see them back to the top.

Naismith and the other walkers away should look at these examples and hang their collective heads in shame. Whatever they might achieve in their career post-Rangers this decision will haunt them for the rest of their days.

Post of RM. agree 100%

Some of the vitriol aimed at Naismith in particular astonishes me.

I look at this way. Naismith is a Rangers supporter, I know this for a fact. I also know he's smarter than the average player, I'm not suggesting he's Einstein but he's not stupid. He also lives and socialises locally, he knows the support, he knows what we feel and think. He's been in touch with all of our senior players, manager and coaching staff on a regular basis.

Taking all that into account he's made the decision to leave.

It's clear he feels let down over the failure to achieve a CVA. Well, lots of us feel that way. With hindsight we can say it was always unlikely, but back in Feb and March that was our goal and the players did their bit to achieve it. Was Naismith lied to then by D&P, did they know then a CVA was impossible?

It's also worth remembering he's 'in-the-loop', he's inside the gates, he knows how the various people involved in all this think, he knows what is really being said and thought away from the PR fed spin we get to see.

Most importantly he's in touch with and influenced by our manager and coaches. He knows what they really think, his insight into what behind closed doors deals are likely for the club and the reality of budgets and playing level is far better than ours.

He's the third local Rangers supporting player to leave after Wylde and McCabe, or at least announce they'll leave. He won't be the last. Are all local boys mercenary, or simply better informed?

Those saying he should have switched to 'newco' so we could have got a transfer fee are being naive. There are clearly still doubts over 'newscos' ability to pay salaries for a start. If he switches to 'newco' Green and his coterie of investors have a say in where Naismith goes. The infamous Paul Stretford being one who has been mentioned on numerous occasions. Those castigating Naismith's greed should also consider where any transfer fee for Naismith might end up. He's clearly concerned about that, why aren't we? Lastly, whatever might be said publicly clearly our coaching staff have been unable to convince Naismith he has a future at Rangers, short or long term. The uncertainty over which league we'll play in clearly doesn't help, but more importantly the uncertainty over our coaching staff must also be a factor.

Naismith will do well financially from this, very well. However to think that greed and disloyalty are the only factors here is naive.

Our club remains a shambles, from top to bottom, that's what we should take from this.

I've no problem with him leaving, it's human nature, but I do have a problem with his statements, which only help the "death of history" brigade. I don't think Green has dealt with this issue at all well. He is wrong about TUPE. The whole thing has become a PR nightmare, when it didn't need to be.
