Chris McLaughlin - Reporting from Hampden

One thing that WE, Rangers and its fans, MUST get across in all of this is that we have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the decisions being made here.

If we are voted into the SPL (I Know, I know) that decision has been taken by others, NOT US.

If we are voted into the compromise Div 1 - that decision has been taken by others, NOT US.

From what I read here we as fans are willing to accept the punishment even if it means Division 3 - so if they make some carve up to save their own skins, WE cannot be held responsible, we cannot be held to be the "establishment" club, we cannot be blamed for whatever carve up they make out of this.

The blame, whatever the consequences are, lay squarely with the SPL and SFL clubs, not Rangers.

Yes, we were responsible for our own financial demise, none of us deny that. But, likewise, we are not making these decisions now to determine what happens with Rangers !!

Sfa will not allow rfc newco into spl says Stewart Regan

This guy Regan is something else. He has said nothing for weeks, which is shameful while the rest of Scottish football gets in a frenzy. Ahead of a vote to be held by another organisation tomorrow, he announces the result.

I can see what he is up to today. He is telling the SFL, who are quite rightly saying the SPL is passing the buck, that it is not up to the SPL. In other words, more bullying.

Regan is a disgrace, he should have shown leadership, been impartial and put the brakes on all of this a long time ago. Now he is reduced to gambling everything in an attempt to reign the monster in. He has failed in his position and should not survive this. His day of reckoning is not far away but that won't help the breakdown of trust that will be left as his legacy.

I'm starting to think that maybe Scottish football needs a melt down, it is far too bloated with very small teams who for some reason think they should have massive power and a disproportionate share of other people's money.

One problem I have is that clubs are saying that they are listening to fans about the what could affect the future of Scottish football. If that is the case then where is the democracy? Why should a club that averages 200 fans have more of a say than one that averages 47,000? Surely it should be one fan one vote?

This is a total case of the tail wagging the dog.

There has to be sense and if that means many clubs disappearing altogether then maybe that is justified by survival of the fittest. To survive we probably need less clubs with bigger numbers of supporters - like what is happening in England.

We certainly need to reduce the Edinburgh clubs to one as well as Dundee. You could even add Livingston to Edinburgh United as they are close and originally came from Meadowbank. Motherwell and Hamilton, Airdrie and Albion Rovers would be better off together as one - and perhaps Clyde as well. You could merge Kilmarnock and Ayr; Falkirk, East Stirlingshire, Alloa and Stirling Albion are pretty close; Dunfermline, Raith Rovers, Cowdenbeath and East Fife; Arbroath, Forfar Brechin and Montrose; Inverness, Ross County and Elgin; St Mirren, Dumbarton and Morton. You could even disband Partick Thistle and Queens Park and allow their fans to join the ranks of either of the Old Firm.

We could end up with an SPL of about 10 to 12 super clubs and a few of provincial divisions for Highland, Central and Border clubs who can play off with the bottom of the league for promotion.

I used to respect the need for local clubs to survive but they way that they are using their numbers to kill football in Scotland for justification of their own self importance, I am now starting to see them as a disease on the game.

Again they have three choices and choose the worst possible - either say that at the beginning, leave it be or put another spanner in the works by saying it now. Regan can't help doing the stupidest thing possible every time.

Some of those proposed mergers would result in a blood-bath. The best way is to divide income from sponsorship/TV/whatever between the top however-many-teams-you-want-to-survive and let attrition run it's course.

You're bang on about the disproportionality of the votes though. The average home gate of Rangers last season was more than the combined total for the whole SFL. We should be voting them in!

That's actually the most astonishing point about how destructive this debacle has become. 25% of bums on seats in the SPL are due to Rangers. It's still >20% if you take into account the whole of Scottish football. Probablly a similar proportion of the population of the country are Rangers fans - well over 1 million. And yet Scottish football wants to disenfranchise all of us!? Are we all to be denied seeing our club compete because a couple of dodgy characters messed with the taxman? Are we all bad guys just because an unwelcome element of neds and biggots have latched themselves onto our club? Are 20% of the population of Scotland scum who deserve to be kicked out of football?
