Civil War Says The DR

Recommended Posts

I was asked about success, I assumed in footballing terms.

It's a pity we can no longer debate on here without people being labelled 'trolls'.

You were asked

Stop prevaricating. Name these successful clubs where their owners are in it to make money? I'll let you define 'success'.

You've yet to name a successful club where the owners are in it to make money.

Newcastle owe Ashley over £140m and were relegated under his tenure.

Bolton are £136m in debt and were relegated.

Southampton just came out of administration not all that long ago and its' present owners had to convert £33m of debt into equity.

The most important criterion should be ability.

I agree, and for me it's one of those that doesn't actually need to be pointed out, but I'd be dubious about someone choosing that ability who didn't have those three qualifications I mentioned. There are plenty of qualifications required to choose a CEO but those that do not have those qualifications have their choice under a shadow.

I'm sure MM, WS and AM have enough between them to be able to make some kind of intelligent choice. While those with self interest at heart don't have my confidence. The latter is something that seems to shaft us again and again. Ability is totally worthless if someone nefarious is pulling the strings for their own gain.

Which pretty much says that finding the best ability is probably not the most important criterion. There are plenty of considerations that are at least equally important.

I referenced Bolton's long top flight run, and since relegation Newcastle have finished a whisker away from CL football and made the Europa League quarter finals. Southampton have recovered from administration with their current ownership and are now mid table in the Premiership.
