Kieran Prior buys 1.5% of RFC

The problem is whoever wants to invest in Rangers just makes us fans all the more nervous after what has happened.

Well, we know about the people who speak about this. Who knows what sort of people also invest. You have to thank Mr. Prior in two ways here. First, the club is grateful for money that is coming in. Secondly, people in the city et al who know about Prior's pedigree may come to the conclusion that Rangers is indeed a good investment (as much as we don't like to see it that way (but look at ManU)) and may start spending their money too. As it stands now, something like last season won't happen again in due course, simply for the reason that there is no 80%plus owner who can do with the club whatever he likes. As much as I would like a ultra-wealthy man backing the club, or at least presenting a solid fall-back basis, the current form IMHO ensures that nothing Whyte-ish will happen again.

Everyone buying the shares except who we thought!!

my thoughts exactly.

I'm sure all of us "ordinary" fans, if we were lucky enough to have a decent sized lottery win, wouldn't hesitate at investing a large amount into the club so why are the "real" money men who are fans hesitant?

I like him already saying all the right things....having an IQ of 234 and having a soft spot for Rangers sounds about right.

Originally from Salford, but based in London, he’s a Manchester United fan whose family originally hail from Galway. He claims he developed a soft spot for Rangers as a kid, adopting them as his “second” team.

He said: “I enjoyed watching Ally McCoist and Alexei Mikhailichenko – and Brian Laudrup and Paul Gascoigne, I could never get to games but that was the era I knew best.”

KIERAN PRIOR stayed true to his word yesterday when he snapped up 1.2 per cent of Rangers – then vowed to demand answers on behalf of fans.

The City whizzkid forked out almost £400,000 on 785,000 shares, right, with the promise of a further purchase.

Record Sport told yesterday how the former Goldman Sachs trader, who has one of the highest IQs in the world, wanted to invest in the club he has supported since childhood.

Prior, 34. who has cerebral palsy and has been disabled since birth, intends to “look under the bonnet” of the club with a view to eventually extending his shareholding to between five and 10 per cent.

He told Record Sport: “I can confirm I’ve purchased 1.2 per cent of the club and I plan to increase my stake in the next 24 hours, subject to supply.

“I’ve put my money where my mouth is. I understand the scepticism by fans around my appearance on the scene, given the way they’ve been mistreated in the past. However, it’s my aim to instil a degree of confidence among the supporters and I’ve done what I said I would do.

“I’m no knight in shining armour but now I can look inside the club and ask questions to which the fans deserve answers to.”

Prior, originally from Salford but now based in London, is now one of the most significant individual shareholders in the club.

Boss of private equity firm Pri Arc, Prior insists his investment is for the long term. He sees significant future growth in his shareholding but good corporate governance is key.

Prior said: “This is a situation that has arisen through unfortunate circumstances at the club, which is breeding an investment opportunity.

“However, the club must be run for the fans who are its lifeblood, not as a private institution for significant shareholders. Craig Whyte exploited it but I can do nothing about the past, only the future.

“I’ve heard a lot of good soundbites but no effective planning and education of the fans. The club will only grow through proper corporate governance.

“I need to know what’s going on inside and wanted to buy enough equity to give me a voice. I’m in this for the long term.”

Prior’s voice may soon become too powerful to ignore but he is at pains to point out his willingness to work with the current board and investors.

He said: “If I’m offered a board position I would not decline it but directors should be voted on, not placed there or coerced into position.

“It would be an honour to be offered a non-executive position on the board.”

Would be good to know who Prior is working with.

I know it is overly cynical and probably ultra-sceptical, but reading somesuch and often last season (not least from the jhournos), words like these make you wary of people. One just hope the above is utterly unfounded.

This is exactly what he said and that above is what the jhournos have turned it into.

Frankie's question is a good one. I guess that most of us haven't a clue as to who has the power to influence the direction of the club. There seems no end to the confusion. Will there be an EGM? What is the position with the Easdales? As a very modest shareholder I would welcome some information but I genuinely don't know who would be able to say something that would be meaningful. If this posts betrays a sense of frustration that is how I suspect many of us are feeling right now.
