No regrets for Dons chief Milne on Rangers decision

DONS chairman Stewart Milne today claimed he has “no regrets” over backing the decision to kick Rangers out of the top flight.

 

The 11 remaining SPL clubs voted overwhelmingly to reject the newco Rangers application to join the league in the summer of 2012.

 

The Light Blues are now sitting top of Scottish League One.

 

The absence of Rangers has resulted in a drop in gate revenues for the clubs in the country’s top league.

 

But Milne, pictured, insisted they had to do what was right to retain the integrity of Scottish football.

 

He said: “The important thing is the right decision was made. We’ve had to live with the consequences of that.

 

“It has hit us financially, but not to the scale some people were making out. We have no regrets.”

I've heard quite a bit about "moving on" from the actors, but I've yet to see any evidence.

I note Aberdeen's hardy annual, 'the new stadium' was being cultivated again earlier this week. Now, Peter Lawwell can offer sage advice in this regard, tell a dozen local councllors to sell a few streets at a peppercorn rate(lets say a penny), then use increased land bank s security for a soft loan from a bank heavily influenced by a few mates. Utilise realised funds to build another heap of dung.

 

Further, Peter advises being on a proposed club tour of Japan when all decisions are being taken. Purchase Peter's new self help tome this coming Chrstmas, 'Integrity done Easy'.

The game in Scotland is joke. Two leagues are one horse races where the only odds being offered are on the date when Rangers and Celtic mathematically clinch the respective titles. No sponsors will touch the SPL with a barge pole until the biggest team gets back there but we're meant to believe that everything in the garden is rosy. Aberdeen and their pathetic idiot of a chairman can keep sticking their heads in the sand and parroting the Liewell line for all it's worth. It won't get any more punters through their gates or shore up their crumbling finances.

 

Hell mend them. If they went under I would happily dance on their grave.

What i would ask Milne and the rest is what they'll do if Whyte's Rangers takeover is deemed fraudulent i.e. whyte gets done for fraud. That will mean Rangers were indeed the victim of a crime and Milne & his SPL cohorts took a decision to punish the victim of that crime (by voting Rangers out of the SPL). It will be interesting to see if the 26,000 oldco shareholders seek legal redress from either Milne and his cohorts or the SFA who weren't entirely blameless either as they must have known Whyte's background at the time of the takeover and should have stopped him there and then.

Perhaps he should concern himself with his own club and how they intend to repay the £15m or so they are required to do so in the next five years. I'm no accountant but I think they'll struggle

The reality of it all will hit home next summer, once the season is over and all the meagre revenue is being distributed and the attendance figure are calculated.

 

What beggars belief is that Milne and Co., despite knowing that the EBT case was no financial doping (and that Penn State did that on a grander scale, as was shown this week), still think the decision was correct. But hey, we're speaking of Aberdeen ...
