Where did the idea for the RFFF come from?

What individual or organisation proposed it?

That I can't remember mate. I attended a variety of meetings around that time but wasn't at that one... :(

I was going to let this pass but you keep making stuff up.

How the RFFF committee was formed I'm not sure, whether it was by invite, acclimation or what. They don't issue many statements so we can't ask them.

Narsa executive on the other hand were democratically elected by representatives of each RSC. Each representative knows the mood and instructions of his/her own RSC and vote accordingly. As in any organization the executive are then expected to deal with and annunciate on a given situation without taking a vote of the entire membership. If the membership do not like what the executive have done they are free to vote them out at the next AGM. This ensures that the executive attempt to perform their duties with a degree of responsibility.

There are regular updates issued to the membership as regards the goings on.

I have never, ever heard of any members being threatened or coerced in any way. In the greatest majority of cases the actions taken by the executive are mutually beneficial to both Rangers and the membership.

In this case of the RFFF, I believe the executive moved on their own because of time restraints.

As many posters have stated, the motion proposed by the RFFF committee to assist Mr. Houston was in itself wrong. Further, I sense that the general feeling is that the RFFF committee would have a hard time contacting the original contributors to the fund, ergo they would end up making the decision on their own proposal by themselves. This second action would be unacceptable to the NARSA executive and if the forums are any indication, to the Rangers' support in general.

i don't doubt the vote would have been against. but at least there would have been a vote.

Looking back on this forum it appears the RFFF idea came direct from the club via Jim Hannah along with the Assembly:

I think the committee was then decided as part of the meeting mentioned in the original email in that thread. Like I say, I think volunteers were requested from those present at the Ibrox Suite.

I'm led to believe the club was behind it, but it is a grey area because no-one seems to be able to give a clear answer on who proposed it, who seconded it and what the vote was on it.

See above.

Jim Hannah appears to be proposing it with the obvious backing of the club and Assembly. I assume those present at the meeting effectively ensured the go ahead in what appears, looking back, to be a fait accompli - even if I think most bears liked the idea at the time despite some of us expressing doubts about how the money would be managed.

That's a decent summing-up.

I think the NARSA statement was out of order and will be damaging to their reputation, but it is a properly organised democratic organisation accountable to its members.

The RFFF, on the other hand, has no members and when it calls for a vote the question has to be asked - what is the qualification to actually have a vote?

Thanks for that.

It was the club looking at millions being pledged to the RST's Save Rangers scheme that motivated it to create the RFFF.

People actually believed that those who were prepared to commit thousands to Save Rangers would do the same with the RFFF. I know one guy who was considering investing a six-figure sum in Save Rangers. When it was suspended and the RFFF came along, wisely, he kept his money - all of it - in his pocket.
