Businessman offers £1,000 rewards for information after 10-year-old Rangers fan injured in bottle attack

A businessman has offered a £1,000 reward for information on a bottle attack which left a 10-year-old Rangers fan in hospital.

Kieran Duffy lost two teeth when a beer bottle was hurled into a bus taking him and his twin brother Declan to Sunday's Old Firm cup match.

Police said a local man has offered £1,000 to anyone who can help identify the football supporter responsible.

The anonymous donation came as detectives revealed that they have not received any calls about the attack, despite wide coverage in the media.

They called on the man to turn himself in before he is traced.

It is believed the glass bottle was thrown in the side door of the supporters' bus by one of a group of Celtic fans who approached the vehicle as it sat in traffic in Cathcart Road near Hampden.

Detective Inspector Thom McKean said: "A local businessman, who wishes to remain anonymous, was so appalled by what had happened that he approached police to offer a reward of £1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

"This comes following our appeal yesterday which unfortunately, despite the significant coverage both in the media and online, no calls have been received by Police Scotland offering any information about the incident.

"We are of course checking CCTV and carrying out inquiries into the attack on Kieran and would encourage anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem to them, to come forward."

Kieran spent Sunday night in hospital where he received stitches to his mouth.

He suffered a hairline fracture to his face and lost two teeth in the attack near Nutberry Court in the Mount Florida area at around 12.15pm on Sunday.

The Eastbank Primary pupil had been on his way to his first match outside Ibrox with his brother and father Robert Duffy, 39.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 11in and of heavy build. He was wearing green clothing and possibly a white beanie-style hat.

An online appeal set up by Celtic supporter Rod Lee for Kieran has so far raised almost £3,800 of a £5,000 target.

Mr McKean said: "Someone knows who did this and should be not be misguided by loyalty.

"Contact police - just imagine if this was your own child or someone you know. The same would apply to the man who threw the bottle - own up and contact police as it is only a matter of time before you are traced."

Rangers fan, 10, who was was struck by flying bottle on way to first Old Firm game is set to lead out heroes in Scottish Cup tie

07:28, 5 February 2015

By Keith McLeod

BRAVE Kieran Duffy will be mascot this Sunday when Rangers take on Raith Rovers at Ibrox - exactly a week after he the shocking incident which left him covered in blood and requiring stitches.

THE 10-year-old boy hit in the face by a thrown bottle ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm match is to lead out Rangers as a mascot.

Brave Kieran Duffy will lead out his heroes at Ibrox on Sunday for the Scottish Cup match with Raith Rovers.

His twin brother Declan, dad Robert and mum Amanda will also receive VIP treatment as guests of Rangers.

It came as a businessman put up a £1000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thug who threw the bottle into Kieran’s minibus.

The youngster was due to be going to his first Rangers v Celtic match but was instead left covered in blood after a group of rival fans surrounded the minibus.

Kieran swallowed one of his teeth and lost another when the “fan” hurled the bottle in to the Rangers fans’ bus.

He was rushed to hospital where he received stitches inside and outside his mouth.

Dad Robert, 39, of Springboig, branded the bottle throwing lout as a “coward”.

So far Police Scotland have not received any information from the public over the shiocking attack.

A Celtic fan, disgusted by the incident, has set up a fund which has raised more than £4000.

Rangers have said they hope Kieran being a mascot on Sunday will “cheer him up.”

Detective Inspector Thom McKean said: “A local businessman, who wishes to remain anonymous, was so appalled by what had happened that he approached police to offer a reward of £1000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

“This comes following our appeal which, unfortunately, despite the significant coverage both in the media and online, no calls have been received by offering any information about the incident.”

McKean called on the man to turn himself in before he is traced.

Last night, Kieran’s dad Robert 39, said the generosity of both Rangers and Celtic fans in the wake of the sickening attack was helping them deal with the trauma.

Robert added: “We have been blown away by the response and it has restored our faith in human decency. Kieran and Declan saw the worst of people on Sunday but now they are seeing the best of them.

“I’m happy to see that someone put up a £1000 reward to catch the person who threw the bottle.

“The response has been the same from fans from both sides. Everyone wants to catch the guy because he doesn’t represent football fans.”

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 11in and of heavy build. He was wearing green clothing and possibly a white beanie-style hat.

Thanks for that pete..... but does anyone notice that the article is at pains to state that the person creating the fund is a Celtic fan (absolute Kudos to the guy for doing so - restores some of your faith in the human race) but when mention is made of the incident itself it was "rival fans".

Now, I am sure the article author would hide behind the "there is no proof it was Celtic fans" nonsense - but, tell me, why would a group of any other team be in that vicinity on Sunday when this was the only game that was being played ?

The media in Scotland are utter slimeballs.

Agreed Craig, not sure that will ever change but hopefully when a new board is in place, the media will be taken to task more than it has been, even when DM was Chairman, to at least have equality in reporting news on ALL clubs and not playing favourites and enemies like has been going on.

On topic, hope the wee guy has a cracking day as mascot.

Young Rangers fan injured by bottle before Old Firm game given day to remember - by Celtic

23:49, 6 February 2015

By David Taylor

KIERAN Duffy and his twin Declan were invited to club’s facility at Lennoxtown near Glasgow with dad Robert to meet Ronny Deila and first team squad.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila joins Kieran, left and Declan Duffy at Lennoxtown ahead of his side's William Hill Scottish Cup match against Dundee

A YOUNG Rangers fan who was badly injured when a bottle was thrown into a minibus before the Old Firm game was yesterday given a day to remember – by Celtic.

Kieran Duffy and his twin brother Declan were invited to the club’s training facility at Lennoxtown near Glasgow with their dad Robert.

The boys met the first team squad and manager Ronny Deila as they watched a training session and then took penalties against keeper Craig Gordon.

It was a gesture of goodwill by the Parkhead side who were shocked after a Celtic “fan” struck the schoolboy with a bottle before last Sunday’s Old Firm League Cup semi-final at Hampden.

The minibus 10-year-old Kieran was on with Robert and Declan was surrounded by Celtic supporters who forced an emergency door and throwing the glass bottle inside.

It hit Kieran on the face and he swallowed one of his teeth and lost another and was rushed to hospital where he had stitches inside and outside his mouth.

A picture of injured Kieran in tears on the front page of Wednesday’s Daily Record shocked Scotland.

Our story

Since then fans of both clubs have rallied round to offer their support to the youngster.

A Celtic spokesman said: “We were delighted to welcome Kieran, Declan and Robert to Lennoxtown.

“The boys really enjoyed meeting the players and Ronny and they were a real test for Craig Gordon. They will always be welcome at Celtic.”

Robert said: “I’d like to thank everyone at Celtic for a great day for my boys.”

A reward to find the thug who threw the bottle at Kieran was doubled yesterday.

Allan Stewart, who runs the Lanarkshire Aquatics and Pet Centre, in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, offered to double the £1000 pledged by an anonymous businessman.

And a Celtic fan disgusted at the incident has raised more than £4000 for Kieran.

The Celtic PR wagon have certainly worked overtime on this one.

Nice gesture from them, again. Im wondering what effort is being put into the person that did it, he may be the one that threw the bottle but there is a gang of them that are obviously keeping quiet.

Im sure the boy will get a huge reception when stepping out on the pitch with Rangers
