Ross County chief: chaos at Ibrox has caused sponsor delays...

Recommended Posts

Ross County are a village team. As such they have done very well but they remain a village team.

Bad luck that they get into SPL when Rangers got turfed out but they could have voted to keep us in so devil take them.

And they've got previous for running with the jackals against a lion.

Actually, it wasn't bad luck for the club but it was very bad luck for the large number of Rangers supporters who inhabit Ross-shire.

McGregor is a smart cookie and what he's achieved at Ross County is remarkable. We kind of take it for granted that they're a top flight side now but it's still astonishing, Dingwall has a population of less than 5,500 people, even when you take in the surrounding countryside you're not looking at more than 15,000, that's about the same size as Cumnock!

Wasn't it McGregor who refused to back the first 're-structuring' proposed by Celtic and Dundee Utd a couple of years back? Also Ross County weren't in the SPL the season we were demoted.

Aye Roy, your club is a stick-on for relegation, and it's NOT your fault. You spent big close season, brought in Dutch players on lucrative contracts, released them during the transfer window, and spent big bringing in another five players. It's NOT your manager, Jim McIntyre's fault, nor is it his deputy, Billy(I can no longer consider myself a Rangers supporter)Dodds fault. Certainly, it's NOT the fault of the denizens of Dingwall; ah mean, nearly 1,500 turned up for a recent home game against St Johnstone.

Of course, it's somebodies' fault. The current path of least resistance is found in the mantra, 'it's Rangers fault'.

Well, you've had your rant, and the creeping reality is next season, you'll be playing big, bad Rangers. I know you will change your tune when you are anxiously looking to off-load 8,000(over two games) tickets to visiting fans. I hope my fellow Bears remember your swinging of an ill-deserved boot and forego the trip up the A9.

As long as we get our club back and start with a decent manager and team, I wouldn't start weeping in earnest should we stay in the Championship for another season - as much as it would hurt. In the meantime, they shall reap what they sowed.

Sidenote, the SPL/SPFL have no sponsorship deal for these past two seasons. Maybe Mr. Ross County questions this too? Either you and yours take on responsibility for the game or you do not. You can't have it both ways.

Another season in the Championship would be hugely destructive both for us and Scottish football. There's no advantage to it whatsoever.

The rise of Ross County from the Highland League to the SPL is indeed as remarkable as his future plans are sound and impressive. We do well to remember that without these so called village teams there would be no Scottish Football as such and we would have had no one to play against these past three seasons. The Italian and Spanish leagues are full of teams that you have never heard of, who have risen up the divisions whilst well known names have dropped down. That's one thing that makes football so refreshing (sometimes) e.g. Eibar the very well run club from the Basque town with a population of 27,000 who won back to back promotions to La Liga last season and are doing quite nicely thank you.

The spin on the reason for the lack of SPFL sponsorship is just that, spin; the real reason is the absence of Rangers and hence the lack of old firm derbies and to a lesser extent the absence of Hearts and the Edinburgh derbies. The SPFL needs Rangers, Hearts & to some extent Hibs alongside Celtic, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd. Who makes up the other six places doesn't really matter all that much so long as they are reasonably competitive like St Johnstone and Motherwell from to time; but the smaller clubs also need an incentive to drive forward and not lapse into mediocrity.

If a handful more could do a "Ross County" then we could have one senior division of 16 full time teams, a second division made up largely of part time teams (there might be some P/T in the top division and some F/T in the 2nd); and consign the rest to the new North and South feeder leagues or Junior football where they belong but with the pyramid structure in place to give them a ladder back up.

We could also do as the Dutch have done in allowing the top teams to have a second team in the lower divisions. They will never be allowed to be promoted to the top division but it serves the purpose of a higher more physical standard for youth players of top teams and potentially better players in the lower divisions.
