Summer 2015 - Transfers and Rumours Thread

Recommended Posts

Walsh has played mainly on the left.

His competition is McKay, Hardie and waghorn. For me he's better than McKay and Hardie.

Not sure if you meant wait on Burke signing or Gallagher either way my opinion on either move would not change. Don't need to wait to have an opinion on the possible moves can assess them perfectly well right now. The only thing that needs to wait is assessing whether MW transfers in and out have been overall decent or poor.

Our right-sided midfield can be filled with ... McKay, Templeton, Law, Walsh, Aird, Holt, Clark and Crawford. Of those, all but Law can play on the left side as well. Waghorn is primarily a central striker, but can play on either flank. Hardie is no winger.

Thus, there are loads of people who a) are (apparently) ahead of Gallagher in the right-sided department, and b) no real requirement to look at a 31-year old. If W&W deems it to be okay, so be it.

I'm serious when you bear in mind he was at a mid table championship club. He's done well since going down south.

Stats can be used to prove or disprove ANY point you want them to. For example, Vuckic's scoring rate whilst at Rangers was very good, better stats than Burke's last season. However, you choose to look at the games won ratio, as is your prerogative.

Any of us can use stats to argue for a player we like or against one we don't.

This isn't a pop at you GS, but a general observation on how we can be inconsistent.

That said, would I take Burke back ? I think he is more than good enough for us, but at 31 I don't think he is the long term solution. Would take him back but would prefer a younger option.

We really dont want to go down the route of bringing ex players back , it will just bring comparisons with the last management team

His age is the obvious issue. But he has done well down south.

Agreed, he has been with a few clubs in the 2nd tier in England, a league which is far superior to not only the league we ARE in but the one we aspire to next season. That suggests that there are a number of managers who rate, or have rated him, in the past.
