The likes of Paris Saint Germain dropped their interest in signing Van Persie two days ago, apparently clearing the way for Rangers to make a move with Stoke their only real competition for his signature.

And incidentally, if McParland pulls this off he is already a legend who should be immediately put into the hall of fame. Aside from the obvious quality he would bring to our team if this comes I just can't wait to see the timothy meltdown.

This guy doesn't need money and if he were to go to Stoke he's going to be in a team with zero prospect of winning any honours and zero prospect of playing in Europe. Their only objective is to stay above the relegation zone.

If we accept that Van Persie has more on his mind than accumulating more money he will never need it makes sense. This will likely be his last contract before retirement. What would be more appealing to round his career off? Battling relegation at Stoke or playing in a team with more than credible prospects of honours and playing in Europe.

The odds on signing for Rangers now evens and Stoke drift out to 4/1

Check that result. It's changing by the minute. Rangers now odds on at 4/7 with Stoke drifting further out to 5/1

He's a millionaire already, still loves his football in the twilight of his career, played in the EPL for one of their top clubs, then moved to the biggest club there...after Turkey, who wouldn't want to play under MW's style of footy in a beautiful country such as Scotland with honours and more CL games to look forward too?

Couldn't agree more. He doesn't need money. Why would he want to play for a team who have no chance of playing in Europe and have no ambition but to stay in that league. It makes sense at this stage of his career.

You've got to remember too - he left the EPL under a cloud and probably thought at the time "thank **** it's over, I'm finished with that place.

Just my thoughts on the guy at the time.
