We perhaps want some of them to be in there because this has developed into a long term habit for them. If we have some of them in then they're probably stupid enough to pull another stunt simply because UEFA applied the same rules everybody else has to adhere to on them. Give them enough rope so to speak.

If it has an affect on their right to attend a CL match and to enjoy the atmosphere these games bring then the gb will soon be looked upon as a leper within. These guys pay good money they create an atmosphere at their ground and enjoy a free run at anything they feel worthwhile to themselves, even upsetting the corrupt UEFA organisation is open season and has been for quite a while. Celtic can deal with 'silly' fines taking into account the £20M windfall coming their way.

 

Irish/Scottish football has nothing to do with these folk, they want the world to hear them, leaflets are passed out at their ground every match day. If the corrupt UEFA want to make a stand against these nutters they have to show some balls. They can't, they are a joke!

Pro-Palestinian Celtic fans, Israeli Hapoel fans clash in Glasgow

 

Police provide Israeli fans with security escort to their seats after pro-Palestinian Celtic supporters accost them outside stadium • "It's not pleasant to come to a soccer match and feel that type of hostility from the crowd," says one Israeli fan.

 

 

 

Protests and violent clashes erupted in Glasgow before Wednesday night's UEFA Champions' League match between Scottish club Celtic and visiting Israeli side Hapoel Beersheba.

 

Hundreds of Celtic fans waited outside Celtic Stadium in Parkhead for the few dozen Israeli fans to arrive. When they did, several Celtic fans tried to attack them. The police forces securing the game separated the groups, and provided the Israeli fans with a security escort to their seats.

 

One Hapoel Beersheba fan who attended the game said: "It's not pleasant to come to a soccer match and feel that type of hostility from the crowd. Fortunately, there were policemen there who restored order and got us in safely. Parents came here with their kids, and they certainly have nothing to do with political matters."

 

The atmosphere began heating up several hours before the opening whistle, when Celtic fans launched a pro-Palestinian rally in the center of the city. Some even approached the hotels where the Israeli fans were staying. From there, the demonstrators made their way toward Parkhead carrying bags containing Palestinian flags, which they distributed to every fan entering the stadium. With every passing minute, more fans draped themselves in the flag of the Palestinian Authority.

 

Also prior to kickoff, in the afternoon hours, Celtic fans protesting in the city center were attacked by passing Rangers fans. Rangers Football Club, Celtic's main rival, also calls Glasgow home and its fans tend to be more pro-Israel.

 

Scottish journalists reporting on the developments at the stadium said that despite the violence, no Celtic fans were arrested.

 

During the game itself, Celtic fans, particularly those sitting in the section reserved for the most fanatic supporters, waved Palestinian flags.

 

The Union of European Football Associations, which takes a hard line on fans making political statements inside stadiums, could issue the team with a fine or even close the stadium for a future match.

Scottish champions face sanctions after Champions League tie with Israeli side Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

 

Celtic will be punished by UEFA after supporters unveiled Palestinian flags in the first leg of their Champions League play-off against Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

 

The governing body has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Scottish champions after fans flew the flags before and during the match against the champions of Israel at Celtic Park.

 

UEFA confirmed the charge on Friday, saying: "Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League play-offs, first leg, between Celtic FC and H. Beer-Sheva FC (5-2) played on 17 August in Glasgow (Scotland)."

 

The charge against Celtic is over the display of an illicit banner under Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disicplinary Regulations.

 

This case will be heard on 22 September, after matchday one of the Champions League group stage.

 

Celtic have said they will not make any further comment on the matter until this process is complete.

 

The charge is the eighth levelled at the club by European football's governing body in recent years for supporter misconduct.

 

A fine has been the sanction of choice by UEFA's control and disciplinary body in each case.

 

But there is the prospect Celtic could be hit with a partial stadium closure as a result of the actions of their fans, or even face a ban on supporters travelling to future European matches.

 

UEFA's policy is such that if disciplinary measures have to be imposed for offences of a similar nature within a five-year period, that is seen as an aggravating circumstance and increases the likelihood of a great punishment.

 

Celtic were fined after fans previously waved Palestinian flags during their 2014 Champions League qualifier against KR Reykjavik at Murrayfield.

 

In February this year, the club were forced to pay €13,000 over crowd trouble and "improper conduct" by the team during their Europa League match against Fenerbahce.

 

Speaking before the charge was issued, manager Brendan Rodgers spoke about the implications of a possible punishment.

A sorry state that this is my first post but I simply can't believe that this has happened in Scotland.

It embarrasses me that this is the way our nation's people are being reported as behaving all over the world.

What is worse is the usual whitewashing politically and journalistically.

How is it acceptable, at all, never mind for political reasons (which are vastly complex and have nothing to do with this country), that a group of football fans are welcomed to a Scottish football ground, surrounded by absolute hostility (can we call it anti-Semitic?)? Why are these actions not being roundly condemned? The link above is what set me off; the Green Party MP trying to justify it. It wasn't just Palestine flags as the press were reporting; it's easy to find the massive banner of the grim reaper also - I guess that must be some sort of Palestinian flag? There were people being jostled with a police protection in full daylight, on video.

The fact that this isn't being condemned really makes me shiver - is this what Scotland is becoming? Somewhere where it is ok to hassle a group of people openly because of their nationality / faith and to be BACKED UP by MPs? Does this not sound familiar?
