Rangers and Hibs issued with Notices of Complaint

Recommended Posts

I have had a look through this thread also read comments on other forums on the subject. As usual it's "club should make a stand/ tell SFA to get stuffed" "players should not play for Scotland" etc. Yet the same posters will fall over themselves to buy tickets for games at Hampden.

It is disgraceful that, given the events of the day, both clubs effectively face similar charges while attacks (attempted or otherwise) or Rangers players and staff is ignored.

What kind of message does it send out when the SFA, the governing body of Scottish football, completely ignores player assaults in a national cup final? It's absolutely shocking. When was the last time medals couldn't be presented at a major final for safety reasons?

I hope we hear from both Club1872 and indeed Rangers on this matter. It deserves to be highlighted as much as possible.

RANGERS and Hibs face fines of up to £100,000 each if an SFA trial holds them responsible for the Hampden riot.

Both clubs were charged with misconduct by footie beaks yesterday over the violent rampage by yobs after the Scottish Cup Final.

The Ibrox giants face two counts of supporters smashing LED advertising boards and pitchside hoardings.

Their Edinburgh rivals must answer four charges over similar offences by their followers — who are also accused of tearing up the pitch and pulling down goalposts and nets.

An insider at the game’s governing body said last night: “If the clubs are found guilty, they face maximum fines of £100,000.

“The cost of any damage will be deducted from their prize money.”

But fuming Gers fans’ groups believe winners Hibs should also have been carpeted for alleged on-field attacks on players during the rammy.

Rangers Supporters’ Association secretary Drew Roberton said: “We’re very disappointed that alleged assaults on the players appear to have been largely ignored.

“We’re not surprised the SFA has taken the easy way out and charged both clubs.”

Former fans’ leader Chris Graham added in a mocking comment yesterday: “The next time you want to attack a Rangers player, make sure you vault the advertising boards so your club doesn’t get fined.

“SFA give the green light to every bam in Scotland that attacking Rangers players is acceptable. A national disgrace.”

Notices of complaint were served by the SFA’s Compliance Officer yesterday, with the clubs given until September 6 to respond.

Championship leaders Hibs will have their case heard at the national stadium on October 4, with Rangers due to appear the next day.

Both could be booted out of this season’s tournament as a penalty.

Last night a Hibs spokesman said: “We will respond once we have had the chance to study documentation in detail.”

Rangers said: “We will take time to study these findings.”

Trouble erupted after Hibs clinched a dramatic 3-2 victory with a late goal to lift the trophy for the first time in 114 years on May 21.

Thousands of their fans piled on to the turf, before clashing with rivals in shameful scenes watched by millions of TV viewers around the world.

Police have fielded flak over their handling of the chaos.

We told yesterday how Gers fans hit the roof after one cop claimed supporters could have died if extra officers had been on hand to stop the pitch invasion.

So far 58 suspects have been nicked with more arrests expected.
