SunSport can reveal the 34-year-old has been BANISHED from Murray Park and won’t feature against Ross County on Saturday. The clash, involving team-mate Andy Halliday, comes just days after Gers were humiliated by Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season – plunging the Ibrox side deeper into crisis. It’s understood Barton and Halliday were involved in a heated verbal exchange during training on Tuesday. We can reveal it’s not the first flare-up controversial midfielder Barton has been caught up in since his surprise move to Ibrox in the summer. SunSport understands words were exchanged in the Rangers dressing room after the 1-1 draw against Hamilton on the opening day of the season and again at Dens following a narrow 2-1 win over Dundee. Having let both incidents play out, Gers gaffer Mark Warburton took action on Tuesday. Barton was immediately banned from training and told not to report back to the club until Monday. The former Manchester City and Newcastle star has also been warned about his future conduct and instructed to adhere to club rules - or the axe WILL fall on his short Gers career. Ironically, earlier in the day Warburton had tried to defend Barton’s performances ON the pitch for Gers. Despite his reputation – and his displays for Burnley last season – Barton has failed to live up to the hype. Both he and Niko Krancjar have been accused of slowing down a Gers midfield that steam rolled all before them last season. But Warbs insisted: “The people who say that are the same people who were delighted when we announced we were signing Barton and Kranjcar. “That’s fair comment. For them, hindsight is a marvellous thing. “For us, they are two quality players. “On Saturday you had a situation where we weren’t at our best as a group but also we are trying to integrate a number of players into our system. “You’ve got to trust the squad. “So whether wide right is Waggy, Kenny, Michael or Harry Forrester, I trust them. “You’ve got to trust them otherwise you lose your team immediately. “I just spoke to a couple of them up stairs individually. Don’t forget, some of them have been used to playing in completely different systems. “Off the field, one of our players had a problem with his kids not being well and missing the start of school. “These may sound like trivial matters but they affect your players because we are dealing with fine margins whether it’s a domestic issue, an on-field problem or an injury. “But there are no excuses. Joey Barton was in the Championship team of the year last season and would have been a Premier League players this season.
