Rangers 2 (Morelos, Tavernier) v Aberdeen 0

Recommended Posts

Yeah, despite all the new signings we're still arguably short in central midfield... :D

The good news is that should make for a more open game as I don't think there's much point in us trying to contain Aberdeen.  Similarly, with Murphy likely to start then at last we should have a much better attacking balance to the side which should give McInnes food for thought.  We've also got better options from the bench should we need to use them.

If we have the same attitude that we did in both previous games then I'm fairly confident of a solid win.  However, I suspect a closer game than the midweek 3-0 rout we gave them at Ibrox two months back.

Was there any mentioning of Bates with regards to injuries et al? I think not. Thus, we'll most likely line up as the usual 4-2-3-1, even though I would hope that we play 4-4-2 with Cummings and Morelos up front.

Foderingham

Tavernier - Cardoso - Wilson - John

Goss - Holt

Candeias - Windass - Murphy

Morelos

I thought Halliday gave us a bit extra drive in the Florida Cup, and given the absence of Jack and McCrorie, I wonder if he might be in with a chance of starting tonight against a very physical team.

I'd also start Bates at the back - Aberdeen are very direct and play lots of long balls... exactly the stuff he seems to revel in.

Agreed!, both would start for me

We've tried Halliday in that holding role previously and he didn't look too assured there.  Having said that, I've no idea who else is appropriate for that role.  Goss looks big and strong but doesn't come across as someone who enjoys the physical battle.

As for Bates, I really like him and fully expect him to start.  I suspect it'll be alongside Wilson.
