Pacific Quay Musings?

Interesting Sportscene video commentaries from Liam McLeod over recent days.

Apparently 'justice was done' when Tav missed his 2nd spot-kick on Saturday. Meanwhile, with the benefit of super slo-mo, McLeod thought 2 of the other 3 were out the box. 'Controversial' was McLeod's byword.  Fair enough, he's not wrong.

Weirdly though, the same commentator and organisation didn't think two fairly clear RFC penalties were even worthy of footage in the game against Cowdenbeath. Neither was the home side's penalty which was very soft and outside the box discussed as controversial or described as an injustice.

Now, it's obvious I'm biased when it comes to analysing incidents for & against my club. Even so, I'm honest enough to admit, 3 of the 4 awards from Saturday were controversial & will split opinion. However, surely I should expect the same fairness and integrity from the BBC and their commentator.

The Sportsound programme this evening will almost certainly be analysing the penalties tonight.

You'll probably have Stewart, McFadden, and Broadfoot.D on.

They've had a couple of days and the opportunity to look at all the various camera angles. Just as PQ used the 24-48 hours after the OF match to come up with the Morelos montage, they should have been able to ascertain that 3 of the four penalties were penalties and the second (which was missed) was very soft.

They can criticise Dallas for the second penalty but if they've done their objective homework, they should now praise him for the 4th award, a very good spot on his part.

And of course, they can mention the same referee giving Celtic a penalty that never was in a recent Cup Final.

This time, at Ibrox, he and his assistant got the edge of the box decisions correct.

ps. Those Bears on twitter should supply Kenny MacIntyre/Michael Stewart with all relevant footage including the Russian Rangers supporters link posted by Der Berliner (below) that has the definitive angle re. 4th penalty.

The attack on Dallas was led by Steve Conroy the self confessed Celtic fan. It was brutal stuff and Stewart was ridiculous and illogical in his support. Slating the decisions based on his (wrong) interpretation of the evidence and rules and damning the standard of officiating whilst at the same time stating that the ref should have held back from awarding further penalties after the second for no other reason than he had awarded enough (my interpretation of his thinking). He stated Candeias was barely touched as he fell in the box , ignoring that he was manhandled all the way into the box and the real stupidity was the defender’s. The handball was apparently accidental - in other words you can intentionally handle the ball outside the area but if it then accidentally falls onto your hands whilst you are in the area as a result of the same intentional original handball then it’s not a penalty. That is as pretty far fetched and bizarre attempt to declare Rangers guilty of an opposing defenders cheating that you will ever come across - unless you listen to Michael Stewart regularly that is.

Steve Conroy the celtic fan stated most refs were Rangers fans and the BBC broadcast this with no supporting evidence.

It was mind boggling stuff. Never heard so much c*ap on that show before which is saying something. One real big question is not refs but why we spend taxpayers money on expert pundits who are not experts and are becoming more bizarre by the day and who are frankly as bad at their jobs as the refs they slate and the defenders who can’t defend.

There is no way we should ever let the BBC back into Ibrox.

PQ (Sportsound) went that little bit further down the road of stripping away it's veneer of objectivity yesterday.

They set-up the programme mainly to highlight:

- how awful and wrong Andrew Dallas had been in awarding Rangers 4 penalties

- introduce a more sinister angle regards Rangers supporting referees

They did this by inviting ex-referee Steve Conroy who had already made his opinion on the penalties very clear on another medium. In other words, PQ knew what opinion they were getting and it helped them manage the conversation.

Despite Kenny MacIntryre using Steve Conroy to help suggest that there are/were more Rangers supporting referees than Celtic supporting referees, PQ managed to find one (Conroy openly a Celtic fan), of what is apparently a rare species and Kenny MacIntrye pushed the issue as far as he could towards not only controversy, but gently towards corruption that had been claimed in a Celtic supporters video that had been partly filmed in Celtic Park.

Another referee, Dermot Gallagher (ironically, born in Ireland) had opined differently to Conroy wrt the penalties. He was mentioned in passing but his opinion given short shrift by the programme and Michael Stewart in particular. Nor was it mentioned to Conroy whilst he had been interviewed by MacIntyre.

It was the ticking of a box but the swift & easy dismissal of Gallagher's opinion whilst taking Celtic supporting Conroy's so earnestly with subsequent expansion to Rangers supporting referees tends to suggest perhaps Sportsound have stumbled onto an unobjective and corrupt angle, but that it resides at Pacific Quay.

The programme was IMO set-up with one main immediate intention, beyond but in addition to Scottish football politics.

To contribute to a momentum of noise that on balance, makes it less likely we'll get the benefit of the doubt wrt refereeing decisions in the near future. A time that is vital wrt the League Championship.

My stomach is bad enough this morning Buster so I will spare myself the listen. There has been a sinister tone for a long time from PQ. They are a horrible and resentful breed with sectarian and republican substance at the core.

I note that Bobby Madden has been appointed as referee for our game at Aberdeen.

It's been widely claimed he was/is an ST holder at Ibrox.

A penny for his thoughts as he listened to Sportsound yesterday.

Effectively, Sportsound has contributed in a mainstream type of way to pointing at him and daring him to make any major 50/50 calls in favour of Rangers #UnreasonablePressue

Sportsound has increased the pressure on Madden significantly but in a particular way.

It was referred to twice, neither time were Celtic named,...it was a decision at the League Cup Final.

So MacIntryre can ask the question about more Rangers supporting referees than Celtic but neither he or Michael Stewart wanted to mention that the erroneous decision in the League Cup Final was in favour of Celtic.

Stewart referred to two other Dallas mistakes, he named names regards a St.Johnstone penalty award against Hearts but didn't mention that Celtic had played in the League Cup Final, nevermind get the benefit of the error.

So, the programme puts forward a roundabout inference or suggestion that Dallas might be a Rangers supporter (opposed to Celtic) who erroneously awarded Rangers a plethora of penalties but is at pains to make sure it doesn't mention the same referee awarded Celtic a penalty that never was.

The paranoia of Conroy was noticeable. He stated refs are not biased in his opinion but also argued ww should know which teams refs support and highlighting at prompt from macintyre that there were more Rangers supporters than Celtic supporters. They are doing what they can on this show to influence referees and create a bias against us. Of course Sportsound and it’s pundits don’t appear to be remotely accountable because they keep getting the gig despite talking guff. I mean Stewart was implying you can rugby tackle a player starting outside the box and if there is minimal but continuous follow on contact in the box it’s not a penalty, or the other logical extension on the handball of his argument is you could catch a garryowen (shout for mark whilst you’re at it) then stumble backwards into the box and lose control of the ball but still maintain contact with the hand and it wouldn’t be a penalty. If they (BBC) weren’t deliberately trying to influence the outcomes in this league it would be laughable.

Try commenting in the sh1t defending and why Scotland is ranked probably along with Rwanda or Greenland in world football.

I never realised this but that Stefan Bienkowski guy on twitter is now a BBC employee. Famous for the now defunct lead balloon twopointone football website.

His tweet below shows his credentials for working at pacific quay.

This is terrifying stuff - Are BBC scotland just hiring random celtic fans off the internet now?

Out of interest, does anyone know if freedom of information requests cover recruitment for departments?
