Ibrox proposed parking restrictions

Recommended Posts

From the report:

Quote

Event Day Emergency Routes – The current coning for Ibrox Stadium is ineffective and it is also an
inefficient use of expenditure to provide cones at every event. Therefore, in collaboration with Police
Scotland, Emergency Routes have been identified and, as part of these proposals, will be kept clear
by permanent lining and signing.
Event Day Parking Zones – Currently, there is insufficient off-road parking available at the main
stadia in Glasgow to accommodate all those driving to events there. Some of these car trips will be
eliminated by restricting the availability of on-road parking spaces in the area to spectators.
It is the Council’s policy to encourage the use of more sustainable transport methods. In addition to
this, the local community has raised many concerns regarding intrusive and obstructive parking in
residential areas.
In view of this, an Event Day Parking Zone is being proposed to discourage supporters from parking
their vehicles on roads close to the stadium and encourage more sustainable modes of transport
instead. Reducing the number of vehicles on the roads around the stadium will also help general
traffic flows, especially bus services which currently suffer significant delays on event days.

Seems that the council want you to travel by bus, train, foot or bicycle :)

Will any of you be forced into a change because of this?

It’s no secret the drone industry is blowing up. We’ve got regular drones, tiny drones, drones with infrared cameras, drones that follow you around like a lost puppy, drones that you can fly while wearing virtual reality goggles because you are a robot from the future sent back in time to save Sarah Connor.

Well, you can forget all that, because Chinese company EHang has made the craziest drone yet. Called the EHang 184, it’s an all-electric quadcopter the size of a Smart Car. And it has a seat. For a person to sit in.

Look at this thing!

What makes this different from a helicopter, you might ask? Well, helicopters aren’t autonomous — you need a trained pilot to fly ’em. The EHang 184’s cockpit has no flight controls to speak of. Instead, a passenger would simply get on board, enter their destination, and hold on for dear life as they’re automatically whisked away autonomously.

The navigation process is backed up by a “24/7, real-time flight command center.” That, the company says, means “passengers have no need for a pilot’s license.” That sound you’re hearing right now? It’s Federal Aviation Administration staffers’ heads exploding.

One question: What happens when the EHang breaks, as aircraft are wont to do? After all, flying is only one part of being a pilot. Responding to emergencies is another, far more important task. In a press release, EHang says that “in the event of an emergency, passengers can elect to halt flight and simply hover in the air with just one click.” Sounds nice — but what if hovering is impossible because the engines failed?

Still, there is undeniable appeal in this idea. Getting around by taking to the skies is unquestionably better than driving from Point A to Point B while stuck in traffic behind the F-150 with the HONK TWICE FOR TRUMP bumper sticker and TruckNutz dangling off the back. But as much as I’d love to actually own one of these things, there are far too many speedbumps to see the 184 taking off any time soon.

Am I right in assuming that this is effectively a public planning permission notice and therefore should also be pinned as neighbour notification at all the relevant sites?

"These proposals have now been publicised in the Evening Times and approximately 1500 notices have been posted in the affected streets."

You'd think that the locals would be in favour of the proposals.

I park in the Albion so it shouldn't have an impact on me, but it's pretty crap for most. Public transport adds so much more time and cost onto many people's journey.

Yeah, the locals will be delighted I'd imagine.  It may also help some RSCs and their buses out as well.

Fans like me who don't fancy an expensive and lengthy public transport journey not so much but if I have to park a bit further out, so be it.  The Subway queue after the game will be interesting if, for example, people park outside the zone and jump on that to get into Ibrox.

Stadium could be even emptier come the 75th minute.  :(

After well over an hour parked on the bahooky, a brisk walk for a kilometre or two might be quicker and certainly good for blood circulation. Just ask Santa for decent waterproofs

Oh I don't mind the walk but I take along an elderly gentleman who will find the extra distance a challenge, that's for sure.

He can just pay for the Albion permit though as he's a rich auld bugger... ;)
