The Summer 2018 Transfer Window Rumours and Deals

I agree. Appears a no brainer but we have so many similar players on the books already.

We also need to be recruiting more goal scoring midfielders. Our midfield often just doesn’t have goals in it. There will always be games when your strikers need bailed out by a long shot from midfield or a free kick specialist or a big man with a header. McGeoch didn’t score in 42 games last season.

Scoring goals ain't one our main problems - we DID score the most goals in the league last season!!!  The flip side being 6 teams conceded less goals than us - Ceptic conceding exactly 1/2 of what we did.

We need to maintain the scoring record, but tighten up at the back considerably.  IF we do that, the league title could be possible.

These last ten days, I have been lazing in the sun. The southern French town of Bandol, within spitting distance of Toulon. Yesterday, I met an old mate for lunch in said naval port and he announces he had spied Mr Gerrard the evening before in a swanky bistro, sharing a repast with a tall black chap. Of course, Monsieur Pogba is unhappy at Man U; we could put two and two together to solve our defensive midfield frailties? Or, we could accept that Stevie was sharing war stories with Serge Blanco. I liked Serge.

Let the speculation flow.

On their day, the French team that Serge played in could flow like no other in that era.

I hope you are resting from your BBC Scotland duty xD

I'm glad to hear he's in France, it's market full of players with huge potential. Just had a quick look at the Ligue 2 top assists and top scorer charts and a few names stand out;

  • Zinedine Ferhat, set the record for most assists in a season with 20. Just turned 25, in Algeria's squad for the World Cup. Le Havre missed out on promotion on penalties so he could be within our reach
  • Umut Bozok, top goalscorer with 24 goals and he's 23 years old
  • Jean-Philippe Mateta, 17 goals and 20 years old
  • Theoson-Jordan SiebatcheuI, 17 goals and 6 assists and just turned 22

You could go on and on. There's loads of huge prospects coming out of France just now.

I've covered this on a separate thread. We leaked goals like a bottom half side yes, but we only scored a decent amount. Our goals total was nothing to brag about, it was our worst total since Paul Le Guen. And everyone in this forum knows that there were loads of home games this season where nobody in our team looked like scoring. All the best Rangers sides over the years have had goalscoring midfielders and defenders, and Celtic do just now.

I'd take McGeouch all day long. I've watched him about 8-10 times this season and was impressed on every occasion.

As for him leaving us to go to Celtic, Miller did that and when we re-signed him he was fantastic for us. If McGeouch does the job then I'm all for him signing.

Some Info on the backroom staff ...

Everyone knows Gary McAllister, but I was quite encouraged when reading up on the rest of Stevie G's backroom staff, namely Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw and Jordan Milsom.

Beale was an assistant manager to Rogerio Ceni in Brazil for six months before moving back to join Stevie's team at the Liverpool under-23s. Apparently he's really rated as a coach down south so it's quite a coup for us to get him, he's even published a coaching book!

Culshaw seems to have worked his way up at Liverpool, coaching the various age groups and then being assistant manager to Gerrard for the under-18s. Played for Liverpool reserves alongside McManaman and Flower.

Milsom was lead fitness coach at Melwood with the Liverpool first team, again highly thought of down south. I've got to say I'm quite glad our coaching staff are getting a change.  Other Bears might disagree with me, and obviously I don't know what goes on in training sessions etc, but I'm not exactly impressed by our current coaching team.

For one thing our players seem to rarely improve, and if they do it's over a long period of time (i.e Tav). Another example is Morelos, for me

he's not really improved from the start of the season (although that could be attributed to tiredness with the number of games he player

prior in Finland).

We also get an awful lot of injuries, it may just be bad luck, but I'm hoping that Milsom makes a difference there as head of performance.

Jordan Milsom‏ @milsomlfc

Would like to say a huge thank you and goodbye to all of those special people I’ve worked with at LFC for the past 8 years. It was a privilege to work for my boyhood club. Now on to a new challenge working for Rangers FC.

Some info from 2017 ...

Tom Culshaw

Tom is a former Academy defender who as a youngster played in the same Huyton teams as his close pal, Gerrard.

Current Under-15s coach, Culshaw will move up to the Under-18s to act as Gerrard’s assistant.

Gerrard said: “Tommy Culshaw is going to assist me. When I started out full-time as an apprentice, Tommy was a year above me so I know everything about him and he knows everything about me. I thought he was the perfect partner to go into it.”

As a schoolboy Culshaw represented England at international level playing for both U15 and U16 age groups, and at 16 he also graduated from the FA National School where he spent two years living at Lilleshall with future stars Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher.

He started as a youth team player and then signed professional forms at 17 and progressed to become the reserve team captain gaining experience training alongside established players such as Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman.

After playing Tom worked in coaching and education and became the football development officer at the LFC Foundation College.

Tom returned to the Academy in 2011.

Jordan Milsom

Another Scouser, Rehab fitness coach Milsom will move to Kirkby from Melwood, with Conall Murtagh moving the other way.

Gerrard knows Milson well having worked with him while still playing for Liverpool’s first team from 2010.

“I lost my fitness coach when the U18s fitness coach moved up to Melwood, so I phoned Jürgen and asked him if I could have Jordan Milsom, who I worked with for a few years and is, for me, one of the best in the business.

“I thought it was important to replace the guy we lost, who was really good, so Jordan will do the fitness side of it,”

Liverpool appointed Jordan as rehab fitness coach in the summer of 2010.

He has a degree from Liverpool University and an MSc in Sports Physiology from John Moores University.

His most recent post prior to arriving at Melwood was as sports scientist at Leicester City.

STEVEN GERRARD is raiding Liverpool to sign exciting prospect Ovie Ejaria for Rangers.

Gerrard has gone back to the Kop for the youngster who was on loan at Sunderland last season.

Attacking midfielder Ejaria, 20, can move out again and Gerrard expects to tie up the formalities this week.

Gerrard hopes to use his contacts to get other Liverpool talents like Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson, but Jurgen Klopp is yet to decide where they play next season.

Ejaria is far enough down the pecking order to be released.

Rangers want him in to bring him up to speed for their crucial European qualifiers next month.

Seems to be speculation, as every youngster or fringe chap from Liverpool will be linked, but who knows. It appears to be that he might come as a signing rather than a loan, but we shall see.
