Jim McLean Has Died (Confirmed)

Recommended Posts

Apologies, I posted earlier that Jim McLean had died but asked for the original post to be removed as there was some confusion around the legitimacy of the news.

However, it has sadly been confirmed that Jim died today. Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends as they come to terms with his death.

Sad news. Older Gersnetters will recall how after John Greig stepped down as Rangers manager in 1983 McLean had agreed to take over from him only to change his mind.

McLean was undoubtedly one of the best Scottish coaches of his era. However I do think when Graeme Souness arrived at Rangers in 1986 Scottish football was changed forever and what he achieved would never be repeated at a club like Dundee United again.

He did, indeed, and on camera. He also swore at him.

The BBC did not defend its journalist, and no charges were pressed.

The BBC did not, as far as I recall, boycott the club for this outrage.
