There is no reason why we can't finish 3rd in our group, then fall into EL.

We are nowhere near CL quality, but we have already successfully gotten to CL by knocking out a team who should have beaten us.

We are a good team at EL level and shown that for 3 or 4 years now, getting better each season.

Why we can't replicate that domestically (under two managers) is the big question.

Time will tell but I'll repeat what I said months ago.

I don't think this squad has enough balance, depth or quality to do much this season.

I hope that you are right. I am not optimistic, after such a drubbing, which exposed so many weaknesses, from manager, and coaches, through to individual players.

Weaknesses that have been evident since GvB took over, as we reached a EL final and the CL.

But it's latterly the same squad that got us to EL final less that 100 days ago (Aribo and Bassey apart).

That was then, this is now.

My fear is that we accept standing still, admiring past 'achievements', while others move on, apace.

We have something of an opportunity here to reinvent ourselves. We will come second but 1st looks beyond us. We clearly cant buy our way out of trouble like years gone past.

We can use Lowrie,  McCrorie.  McCann, Tilman in his proper position. even Devine, Yilmaz or Matondo etc and concentrate on cups while getting players up to speed in the league.

Mostly what we need to do is decide how we want to play and implement it. Doesn't have to be like celtc but certainly has to be more dynamic.

Gio should be told to go and implement that. If he can't someone who can should be found.

If our main striker is not scoring, it's hard to see where the goals are coming from. The Tims get goals from all over the pitch. We have a clutch of midfielders who probably average 1 or 2 goals per season.

It isn't winning the League and that is what matters above all.

It might win a Cup, who knows.

I can't see us finishing anywhere but bottom of our CL group, It is another level.

Although I'd give us a better chance of finishing third in CLGp., than winning the league.

I've been moaning about GvB and our domestic form since he took over, yet we still manage to do well in Europe.

I don't think we can make any assumptions about how Europe will go based on one game.
