I was hoping to see more of him. Even in the long run if he turns out not to be good enough to be a first team regular he is worth a run of games. I think we jumped into the Davies signing a bit too quickly.

For a player trading model to work well, it needs young players with obvious potential to come in and perform well at first team level.

That can be through your own programme (Paterson) or poaching them from others (Bassey).

Young players with their career in front of them. King has already been on the radar of big clubs and doesn't seem to be phased by Queen of the South or Napoli.

A good season or so and he would bring in a decent wedge, if we manage his contract well.

King strikes me as solid and assured way above the level of eg.  a David Bates

I thought that it had gone away and then reoccured, but ultimately doesn't really matter.

I don’t know, but I read their forums when we signed him and they were all talking about unfortunate off-field issues that have hampered his progress, and that he wouldn’t get in their team now anyway.

Easier said than done at Rangers, where fans expect to win every game.

This is the key part of the player trading model. Teams are more interested in Pattersons and Basseys. They want to see upside and potential. They will pay for it. That's why Tav, Kent and Alfredo are still here. I've posted on here before get King/Lowry in the team, if they get about the Scotland squad we will make money on these guys.

There is already talk of the elite clubs in the EPL watching Patterson and Bassey so we have a track record now of producing good young talent.

Yes !

We need to bring through or poach real quality. Not forgetting to push the physical aspect as much as possible (not a coincidence that Bassey and Paterson were big and fast).

That at least would give them a chance.

Match sharpness comes from playing matches at the required level.

If a player can't handle criticism then there are other clubs for him to play at.

I think that this is clear.

Wrong.

Match fitness comes from rolling in general, in active play, in every sport.

Boxers have 'tuneup' fights.

NBA has the 'D League'

MLB, the minor leagues.

NFL has the 'Practice Squad'.

Apparently the SPL has... "F***k you buddy".

Noted.

Oh, now you want to talk about fitness.

Quite different from match sharpness.

It is quite a surprise to discover this. No really, it is.

Stop blowin smoke...you know exactly what I was talkin about.

So you would prefer he ran around the block and caught up on his stamp collection as opposed to playing non SPL 'level' competition?

Because that would be preferred.

You're a confusing one.

I'm done here.

  • 4 weeks later...

So far my prediction is proving to be incorrect.

Davies has not looked out of place at all.

He looks as if he compliments Goldson quite well.

Goldson's performance has improved in kind further showing Davie's competence.

Lots of games to go, but a bright start.
