The Winter 2023/24 Rangers Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

Rangers have rejected a loan offer with a £3.4m option to buy from Galatasaray for left-back Ridvan Yilmaz and Hellas Verona lead the race to sign the 22-year-old who cost the Ibrox club £5m in July 2022. (Sky Sports)

Wasn't the £5M figure including all the add-ons?

Surely he hasn't done enough to activate them.

Seriously our lack of medical acumen is unreal. There were rumours he would never play again. His contract expired. 5 minutes later he’s back in the Sweden team he’s played half a season in Denmark and now he’s off to a top Belgian side.

Goes to show the lack of understanding of a simple injury or in-depth assessment by the medical team, curiosity did he get a pay out or termination of contract or did it run down? I can’t quite remember I just remember him and a few others after the season at Ibrox ?

Helander was sent to see at least one independent specialist.

I don't recall anyone arguing that we should have renewed the contract.

Absolutely not. Its more to highlight how poor our medical record seems to be. We should be miles ahead of a club like OB in the medical sense.

Does'nt really mean anything without context though does it. Did we follow up on the specialists recommendations? If so did we implement them correctly? etc

There are many examples of a Helander type situation, see Lawrence, Matondo, Raskin, Ridvan etc - players who have all spent the bulk of their time here injured despite seeming to play full seasons elsewhere. Roofe is obviously an outlier as he was injured for the year before he joined but for the 4 seasons previous he managed 40+ games.

Hopefully things change for the better with Mark Waller and Tom Taylor in the building.

By scoring a penalty (that anyone else might very well have converted) or whipping in one good cross out of 15? There is no denying in Tav's worth to the side over the years, yet, the amount of criticism he escapes as opposed to Borna and Ridvan is somewhat baffling.

You forget the high number of free kicks as well. We all know he is suspect defensively but if he wasn't, he would be in the EPL and the England team. To replace him, we would need to find a RB who can give us his goals tally (leaving aside penalties) and that is near nigh impossible on our budget.

It's always possible that Helander has been playing under a disclaimer since his recovery. It could be a means of mitigating risk to the Danish club until they could achieve some kind of assurance about his medical status - a risk that Rangers couldn't take.

Too bad for us.

I thought he was very good when fit.

I know it's pretty radical but maybe we could focus on finding a striker who can deliver those goals and a defender who can defend.
