I'm not being funny but the police treat football fans like cattle, look at the new supporter bus legislation coming through for an example.

It was always like that as far back as I can remember.

Silly Billy’s probably shite themselves if they got locked up

That's already happened to a few of them.

It's quite simple.  The Police don't like them and they don't like the Police.  This creates a bit of a vicious cycle, where the Police give them less allowances and they get a bit more focused with banners, songs etc.

I can’t see a problem criticising the police. As far as I know, the police aren’t a protected species that are beyond criticism, so long as it’s done lawfully and I’d have thought a banner would be perfectly OK.

all cops are bastards is dehumanising and disgusting.

It's not perfectly ok in any way shape or form.

Quite the reverse. If people choose to criticise or demean specific police officers then that might be construed as dehumanising but to criticise the standard of policing in this country in general can hardly be dehumanising. Similarly, the means by which such criticism is conveyed might conceivably be 'disgusting' but it's hard to see how simply raising banner could justify that description. Whether or not you (or I) agree with the criticism is irrelevant.
