[FT] Benfica 2 - 2 Rangers (Lawrence 7; Sterling 45+5)

Despite a shortage of creative players, the manager still has a few 'other solutions' he can consider tonight. I'd be surprised if we did see us move to a 3-5-2 for this game but it is a viable strategy and we even have flexibility within that setup personnel wise.

It's most likely we retain our usual 4-2-3-1 though with cope for a more defensive setup by introducing the experience of Jack back into the midfield and asking Diomande and Sterling to cover ground in attacking counters. Dessers to start with Roofe and Silva in reserve?

The two graphics show our tactical flexibility despite changing just one player.

There's no doubt the lack of attacking/creative option is a hindrance but perhaps less so away from home. It will be interesting to see how we deal with less control that we have domestically.

Prefer high waisted shorts to necks and arms covered in drawings, holey socks and love heart goal celebrations, any day of the week.

Missing - Zak Lovelace (muscle), Danilo Pereira (knee OP), Kieran Dowell (foot), Abdallah Sima (foot), Alex Lowry (foot), Todd Cantwell (thigh), Rabbi Matondo (muscle), Óscar Cortés (muscle), Ross McCausland (leg); Leon Balogun (not in EL squad)

That's six of our main attacking players out injured ...

Sort of tricky game. Benfica not in the best form, so probably willing to show that there's some spirit left in them. Go we in there with a defensive mind/line-up, they well probably swarm all over us. We need penetration up front and IMHO, Sterling, for all his ability and strength, lacks some sort of cutting edge. I'd be tempted to play Dessers through the middle, Silva on the inside-left attacking slot, Wright on the right. Lawrence the creative chap in the middle, Lundstram and Diomande/Sterling behind him.

Tavernier - Goldson - Souttar - Ridvan

Lundstram - Sterling/Diomande

Wright - Lawrence - Silva
