Maybe if the board had backed him after 55 we might have defeated Malmo, but we'll never know. When Gerrard left we were top of the league.

His team had the lead in the second leg at home against ten men. His team blew it.

He had one exceptional season when celtic were utter dross managed by Lennon.

He had spent about 10 million 3 years in a row, if that's not enough to beat Malmo then games a bogey.

Not arguing those points - but he's the best manager we've had since coming back to the top division.

He had to, look at the squad he inherited.

Walter Smith had more to spend and lost to "Malmos" in Europe regularly,  that make him a bad manager?

He had to :D

And Phil 'has to' now.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and we all know Walter was a great manager for us, but many will tell you that year after year when we were beaten by AEK Athens and IFK Goteburg at the time many of the support were calling for his head and it ultimately got him sacked.

SG is contender for best manager since Walter but let’s see how Clement does after a couple of seasons. Remember SG got sacked by the Villa. How’s he doing in Saudi?

A midfield of raskin ,sterling and dio and we will beat them .

This. Sterling should have started in the middle today and we should have pushed Dio up and onto Macgregor. He gets MOTM all the bloody time because we allow him the freedom to do so. Lawrence does not have the legs to press.

All valid points, but you and others are misunderstanding my points. I've not made any case for SG being a great manager, or one we should bring back.

However, it's undeniable that he quickly found a way to regularly defeat Celtic.

Since returning to the top league, SG has managed us to 8 out of our 10 victories over them.

PC is sitting at 0/3 and any gambling man would bet their mortgage that it'll be 0/4 come May 25th.

We were in a far worse state when SG took over.

Walter Smith, two season apart, had a very poor record in Europe. Just like successive Celtic managers over the last 2 decades.

This night not be a view shared by others, but personally I'd rather have 2 decades of domestic domination over a decent European record.
