  1. Past hour
  2. I think my first article that got published in No1 Fanzine was about one of many bizarre Willie Young refereeing performances (away to Aberdeen). In those days, before Internet and email being widely used, you had to post the articles to George so deadline day was a moving target due to the unknowns of the postal service. It's also difficult to truly remember the effect Fanzines had and as @Devil's advocaat mentions, they were available to purchase in select shops. Remember going to a fanzine shop in Edinburgh and picking up football and music fanzines - weirdly, Meadowbank Thistles was really good as we're quite a few others. Different times indeed, but fanzines became an integral part of the matchday experience and culture in general. At one point, at Rangers, the fanzines sold more copies than the matchday programme and IIRC SDM tried to bring them "in-house".
  3. Fuck.... We've become a weird hipster outfit.
  4. George was the wee bald guy selling it at JG statue. As for him frequenting Edinburgh, I wouldn't know but it wouldn't surprise me.
  5. Sadly missed R I P
  6. I think I only read No.1 when other folk on my supporters bus had it (my dad only bought Follow Follow and I was never really into carrying things around at matches) but always remember seeing the guy selling them. Wee bald guy, if I remember right? The fanzine had some funny articles. Think he used to drink in Mathers (Broughton St, Edinburgh) regularly too.
  7. Jean-Luc and Thelwell mentioned it several times at the Martin unveiling. They're looking to rebuild the club culture. Rangers Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Stewart, who led the search along with Kevin Thelwell, commented: “Our criteria for our next coach were clear: we wanted a coach who will excel in terms of how we want to play, improve our culture, develop our squad, and ultimately win matches. Russell was the standout candidate. “This appointment is about building a winning team and a strong culture. He is no stranger to our club, we expect success and Russell knows that. We are excited for his leadership.” Rangers Chairman, Andrew Cavenagh, continued: “I am delighted to welcome Russell to Rangers. This was a thorough, rigorous process and Russell impressed throughout. His appointment embodies the club’s goal of attracting top talent, empowering them, and supporting them. “We believe that Russell can improve on-pitch performance while also helping build the culture and infrastructure necessary for consistent and long-term success.”
  8. Sad news, never knew George, but loved the No1, I used to grab it from the wee news outlet at Springburn station in my days at the mental asylum also known as north Glasgow college.
  9. Just read the sad news on FF that George McGhee, aka The Entertaining Apprentice, former editor of Number One Fanzine, has passed away. George was a true gentleman and a brilliant person with a sharp wit that came through whenever you read the fanzine. Spent many an hour speaking with George at the JG statue before games or any time I bumped into him. Hadn't seen George recently, think the last time I spoke to him was at the Motherwell playoff game but heard he'd retired and was helping out an old pal with his kitchen fitting business. Halftime, tea-time, anytime, here's your No1 Fanzine. Rest Easy George.

    Club Statement

Yeah, this was before VAR was introduced with clear replays of goals available ya melt 🤣 this JPP Rule 38 needs to be updated and those who conduct it are held accountable. As clearly they aren’t doing an extensive investigation into the matter fans or players are unhappy about.

  12. Agree but why only on loan? He should be one that we can develop and sell for a profit down the line.

  14. Some big points picked up in these last few games, with our first Maximum! BEN-AUC: Points all-round, with Correct Scores for BEARGER and Cammy. JOKER plays for Rousseau, Gribz, Franc, Cammy and compo. @CammyF gets a Maximum! FLA-CHE: Nul points. LA-TUN: Only FA with 1 point for a Correct Result. BAY-BOC: Correct Result for everyone (except Onevision), with Gribz, Franc and compo getting a Correct Score. FA gets 1 extra point for a JOKER play. There's a bit of a gap opening up at the top. 17. My favourite Brockville memory was Huistra's last match. Think we won 3-2 and had an adidas red strip with black sttipes on - 94/95. Different times. 🙂
  18. This is why we should antagonise and fight the SFA constantly. Don't support the national team. It's Rangers or them.
  19. So Rangers point out that other pundits on club TV have not been punished (Tom Boyd, Irvine Welsh presumably) and the SFA try and justify it by saying that they punished a Motherwell coach and in the other, arguably worse, cases they issued a letter, highlighting their inconsistency of dealing with Rangers. They try and confuse (and perhaps imply a threat) by referring to the warnings issued to Cerny, Sterling and Diomande, which have absolutely nothing to do with pundit comments on club TV. They claim that they will issue reasons for the fine, but they won't of course issue the reasons why Rangers were treated differently from other clubs. They are obviously rattled and we need to keep the pressure on with any other issues that arise in the near future.
  20. The SFA statement, so we're not having to click the links: "We note Rangers' response to the determination of a recent independent Judicial Panel Tribunal. In the interests of accuracy, we wish to address some of the misleading comments contained therein. "The sanction imposed by an independent panel was entirely in keeping with the application of the rules. The most recent and relevant example of a similar breach, the sanction imposed on Richard Foster of Motherwell FC for comments of a similar nature in the media, attests to that. Motherwell development coach Foster was handed a six-match touchline ban last September after branding the governing body's explanation for a contentiously-awarded goal by Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers against St Johnstone "lies" while working as a pundit for BBC Scotland. "Furthermore, to address the comments regarding 'rationale behind differing outcomes', we wish to point to the fact that investigations were undertaken in previous cases outlined and that the compliance officers of the time saw fit to issue a censure by way of warning letter for potential breaches deemed insufficiently serious to be progressed to a notice of complaint," continued the SFA statement. "This system of proportionality has been adopted since the inception of the Judicial Panel Protocol in 2011. Indeed, such discretion was exercised last season when the compliance officer wrote to (Rangers) to warn of the future conduct of players following matters involving Vaclav Cerny, Dujon Sterling and Mohamed Diomande. "We also note that Rangers intend to contact the association to seek clarity on the Judicial Panel Protocol and its application. The club is, in fact, already represented on the JPP Working Group. "We have requested written reasons from the panel chair involved in the tribunal and in the interests of transparency will publish in due course. "JPP Rule 38 was introduced in response to the referee strike of 2010, when match officials campaigned for greater protection after enduring sustained personal criticism from clubs and fans. Ahead of a new season, we remind clubs of their responsibilities in this regard."
