  1. Past hour
  2. As good as Official. Change the thread title.
  3. Matty Gill? Where sits he in your panoply of failed hipsters?
  4. Ultimately, Martin's CV and playing style is a perfect example of what we don’t want. Low block an issue. Defence an issue. Failure at set pieces. Recent managers failed to address these issues and now we seem Hell bent on bringing in another manager who has these blots on his CV. FFS! Add in that he is a 'philosopher' who has never heard of pragmatism, far less empiricism, and who elevates style over substance, and we look done for. Wtf is Matty Gill? And wtf has he done to warrant a job at Rangers?
  5. Maurice Ross is a strange pick. I'm not sure where the connection is with Martin. I don't think it matters: he'll just be an assistant with a club link, like Alex Rae, because Martin does the coaching.
  6. My big concern about Russell Martin as Rangersmanager is that, from what I’ve read, he appears to be Warburton MK II (no plan B when plan À isn’t working. Just do plan A better). We need a good tactician who, when needed, makes effective changes during games. We don’t need another one trick pony like Warburton
  7. H&H haven't said anything for a day on this and what RR speculate on this morning, is nothing by 5pm. Keith Jackson for some reason or another keeps getting inside scoops that have been spot on (I'm thinking King). Stadium tours are cancelled tomorrow, and Record Sport are saying an agreement in principle between all parties is there. Martin's the new Manager, n he's bringing Maurice Ross 😂
  8. God loves a trier......
  9. The DR know about as much as we do. Article full or could's and maybes. H&H re-tweeting that we are still in discussions with multiple candidates and Rangers Review saying this morning the DA still very much in the frame.
  10. Russell Martin's imminent return to Ibrox has been agreed in principle and is expected to be confirmed in the next 48 hours. Record Sport understands Martin’s appointment as Philippe Clement’s successor is now in the final stages pending contracts being rubber stamped and the make-up of his backroom team approved, ratified and signed off by the Ibrox club’s new board. It’s understood Martin’s long term assistant boss Matty Gill has been lined up to follow the 39-year-old north of the border, after the pair linked up together at MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton. And, as we revealed last week, former Rangers full-back Maurice Ross has also been earmarked for a key role in the coaching staff if Martin lands the top job, with further additions expected. Martin and his men have emerged as the clear front-runners following a major plot twist in talks with rival target Davide Ancelotti. It’s understood, over the last two days, Ancelloti has suddenly appeared to cool on the prospect of making the move from Madrid to Glasgow’s south side. Ancelotti had seemed in pole position after holding a series of discussions with sporting director Kevin Thelwell and Gretar Steinsson, football adviser to the San Francisco 49ers. It’s understood incoming chairman Andrew Cavenagh has also been involved in the final stages of those talks. But sources in Milan have now confirmed to Record Sport that Ancelotti’s camp began to stall on a move to Ibrox at the start of this week. The timing seems significant as it coincides with dramatic developments at the San Siro and the news that Simone Inzaghi is on the verge of quitting Champions League runners-up Inter Milan for a lucrative move to Saudi outfit Al-Hilal.
  11. Who keeps leaking to the DR fuck sake?
  12. Today
  13. SGs daughter just posted on socials - heading home with a blue love heart. Just adding to the general madness of this thread.
  14. Its also going to be x many residents who will be able to object to any future building works, concerts, parking, around the stadium. Its so short sighted.
  15. Yeah, the worst for me. All other decisions are short term and can be corrected over time. This one means we've lost an asset for ever. It was sold so that NEH could be finished in time for the 150 year celebrations (it wasn't) and was very much a vanity project for the directors. We may not use it for much at the moment, other than match day parking, but who knows what future generations could have used it for. Plus it takes away much needed car parking spaces at a time when the council are trying to restrict match day parking nearby and punishes those whop struggle walking. I have 2 friends who would be unable to attend unless they're in the car park and this will potentially prevent them attending as they don't have the club-issued disabled passes, which will become harder to obtain. It's a disgrace!
  16. Great story.🤣
  17. Its a shocker. No idea what they were thinking.
  18. Stevie Clifford said on his podcast Thelwell has been living up here for months, and working in the background for some time. Regardless, things will be moving. We just cant see it yet.
  19. In before @Bluedell 😀 Off all the bad decisions by previous boards, this is one of the worst.
  20. A young fellow was struggling with his homework. His father, who was reading the paper, looked up and said 'What's the matter?' The boy replied, 'I have to write a sentence or two explaining the difference between 'potential' and 'actual'. His father thought for a moment, and said 'Go through to the kitchen, and ask you mother if she would sleep with a strange man for 10 grand.' The boy does so, and confirms that she would. His father then says, 'Go upstairs and ask your sister the same question' Again the boy does so, and confirms his sister would do likewise. 'Well', says his father, ' potentially we are worth 20 grand, but actually we are living with a pair of whores'.
  21. May as well have just copied the tweet so we could see the pictures too 😂
  22. But..but..surely we have greater potential than Como or Basle?
  23. Means that they will be modish. For a while.
  24. Every Rangers manager this century has played a possession based game domestically because it's only occasionally Rangers don't have the bulk of the possession during a match. Walter Smith became a master at a rope-a-dope style against Celtic where we'd often concede possession then hit them on the break but against everyone else we dominated. Smith relied on moments of skill from very good players, we were also much more dangerous from set-pieces then too. Gerrard didn't favour a counter-attacking style, he wanted his sides to dominate everyone. It took a while for this to be effective against Celtic and it worked in Europe until we played a side better than us. Whereas Gio and Clement were more flexible, particularly in Europe, and were happy to play effectively on the counter-attack. Martin has a clear preference for passing the opposition to death. So did Gio. Clement had that at first too, but as it struggled to breakdown the opposition he tried more direct football, with limited success. Our players simply weren't equipped for that style. For me Martin, or whoever it is, will need to play possession football because we'll have possession in most matches. What they'll need is better players than we've had recently. Without better players Martin won't succeed, but then I doubt Klopp would succeed if the players aren't of the required standard. It might be unpopular but had both Gio or Clement been given better players both were able enough managers to have won us the league.
  25. Well, let's look forward to some Podium Finishes. You know what I mean - Second Place in the League (but with stylish performances ); Losers in The Scottish Cup (but with a stylish performance in the Final, or Semi-Final); Losers in the League Cup (but with a stylish performance in the Final, or Semi-Final). Early humiliation Europe will allow RM to concentrate on avoiding a battle for 2nd/3rd/4th place, and on having decent domestic cup runs. No matter how I look at it, I struggle to answer this old chestnut: If Russell Martin is the answer, just what exactly is the question?
  26. Russell Martin has bought a few. Might be nothing.
  27. I won't lie - the schadenfreude is one of the boxes Martin ticks...
