  1. Past hour
  2. A young fellow was struggling with his homework. His father, who was reading the paper, looked up and said 'What's the matter?' The boy replied, 'I have to write a sentence or two explaining the difference between 'potential' and 'actual'. His father thought for a moment, and said 'Go through to the kitchen, and ask you mother if she would sleep with a strange man for 10 grand.' The boy does so, and confirms that she would. His father then says, 'Go upstairs and ask your sister the same question' Again the boy does so, and confirms his sister would do likewise. 'Well', says his father, ' potentially we are worth 20 grand, but actually we are living with a pair of whores'.
  3. May as well have just copied the tweet so we could see the pictures too 😂
  4. But..but..surely we have greater potential than Como or Basle?
  5. Means that they will be modish. For a while.
  6. Every Rangers manager this century has played a possession based game domestically because it's only occasionally Rangers don't have the bulk of the possession during a match. Walter Smith became a master at a rope-a-dope style against Celtic where we'd often concede possession then hit them on the break but against everyone else we dominated. Smith relied on moments of skill from very good players, we were also much more dangerous from set-pieces then too. Gerrard didn't favour a counter-attacking style, he wanted his sides to dominate everyone. It took a while for this to be effective against Celtic and it worked in Europe until we played a side better than us. Whereas Gio and Clement were more flexible, particularly in Europe, and were happy to play effectively on the counter-attack. Martin has a clear preference for passing the opposition to death. So did Gio. Clement had that at first too, but as it struggled to breakdown the opposition he tried more direct football, with limited success. Our players simply weren't equipped for that style. For me Martin, or whoever it is, will need to play possession football because we'll have possession in most matches. What they'll need is better players than we've had recently. Without better players Martin won't succeed, but then I doubt Klopp would succeed if the players aren't of the required standard. It might be unpopular but had both Gio or Clement been given better players both were able enough managers to have won us the league.
  7. Well, let's look forward to some Podium Finishes. You know what I mean - Second Place in the League (but with stylish performances ); Losers in The Scottish Cup (but with a stylish performance in the Final, or Semi-Final); Losers in the League Cup (but with a stylish performance in the Final, or Semi-Final). Early humiliation Europe will allow RM to concentrate on avoiding a battle for 2nd/3rd/4th place, and on having decent domestic cup runs. No matter how I look at it, I struggle to answer this old chestnut: If Russell Martin is the answer, just what exactly is the question?
  8. Russell Martin has bought a few. Might be nothing.
  9. I won't lie - the schadenfreude is one of the boxes Martin ticks...
  10. These new guys are hopless, been in the job 2 days and still don't have a manager. FFS what's he been doing for the last 48hrs? I'm at the stage that I want them to announce RM just for the shits and giggles it'll create.
  11. A building warrant has been granted by Glasgow CC for the erection of flats on a portion of the Albion Car Park. The 160 flats constructed by a developer will see 450 parking spaces retained immediately to the west of the site on land remaining under the ownership of Rangers FC.
  12. So has our new manager been announced yet 🤔 👀 😬
  13. Today
  14. Thanks. Never used one before. Yes, good article with Martyn's usual logical clarity.
  15. Wee Wullie playing for the Owls .
  16. The betting come august will tell him Celtic 2/5 Rangers 5/2 I would suggest you take the 5/2 as soon as possible.
  17. Use a 12ft Ladder...
  18. Unfortunately behind a paywall.
  19. Thanks mate. I'm sure you would have been up there if you'd carried on.
  20. This is a really good, constructive essay from Martyn. It might not have the red, blue and white ticker tape some fans are throwing around to welcome our new majority shareholders but it's a necessary note of realism and caution amidst the excitement.
  21. £20 million cash injection. Lower costs to the club if we aren't a PLC. Hopefully more professional approach.
  22. Don't see that as being the case. They will still need an audit and Leeds Utd accounts appear to be more detailed than ours IIRC.
  23. All this nonsense about possession it doesn’t matter how long you have the ball it’s what you do with it back we were kings we’d play the hooped horrors and it would be the horrors with possession for most of the first half then big slim would get rid of his hangover slip a couple of through balls for our forward players we’d go in two up we’d hardly touched the ball and it would be the same in the second half look at Manchester city no team retains the ball like them but others have now rumbled them result a trophy free season I might be right when I say that in last season’s champions league city were the top passion team but won nowt it’s what you do with the ball that counts fitbaws a simple game played by simple people for simple people.
  24. I've yet to hear an upside to this takeover.
  25. Reminds me of Mark Warburton, Michael Beale, Gio, Clement. Can't just hold the ball and try play possession football, like Goat said, teams will just let you, they'll be fine with the point. We need to be full guns blazing, rapid, one touch, shots and turning the attack at all opportunities.
  26. We will have and have had 50 to 70 % possession in nigh every game in Scotland, but that was in the defensive and middle third of the field. Our problem has been that the final third was under-manned with attackers, and not the least attackers unable to score enough goals. For the best part of a decade. Either you bring in (enough) people to do that, or you change the tactic. Playing three attackers against a brick wall, hoping that DMs/CMs will join up and fullbacks act as wingers is fine, but hasn't worked. At least with the player we had. And we didn't change it, just subbed similar inadequate players with those on the field. If we get Sima for the left attack slot and Cerny for the right, it would be a start. And we would need people behind them in the team that would do nearly as well with the ball.
