  1. I think the bottom line is that while Ashley is still the owner of Newcastle and with the current Rangers/Sports Direct contract added into the equation, then becoming the largest shareholder in Rangers would be a clear conflict of interest.
  2. I think the critical point though, is that while the ruling is technically correct, the punishment in this case doesn't fit the crime or come even remotely close to fitting the crime. Legia completely battered both St Pats & Celtic a total of 12-2 aggregate over 4 legs, 6-1 against both clubs. They should not be put out of the competition for a minor clerical or administrative error. It's a disgrace to the game.
  3. Take a look at the EPL handbook. It's a massive 560 pages in the online pdf format, but you can run word searches on it really fast for words like 'owner', 'percent' (etc) which takes you straight to the relevant sections. In Firefox I just use the 'Find' function (Ctrl+F). http://www.premierleague.com/content/dam/premierleague/site-content/News/publications/handbooks/premier-league-handbook-2014-15.pdf
  4. I honestly don't know what the story is because the EPL handbook doesn't stipulate a maximum permitted percentage for dual ownership, but it has very specific rules on disclosure of ownership (rules G.1 & G.2) and a specific Dual Interest Notice that must be completed (Form 6). Where Malcolm Murray or anyone else has got the 10% figure from though, I have no idea, although it's entirely possible Ashley was told by the Premier League that he could buy into Rangers no problem, but only up to a certain percentage. I don't know of any solid foundation for the 10% figure which has been widely discussed as his cut-off point though, so it seems as though we're once again relying on rumours etc.
  5. That's that then. CAS are unlikely to rule against UEFA on a clear technical rule breach. Rock solid technical rule breach or not, this has to be one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in European football competition for a long time.
  6. A widely reported quote from Malcolm Murray back in November: “The rules of football are complex but, as far as I understand, if you own a Premier League club, then you can’t own more than 10% of a Scottish club. So, unless he sells Newcastle, then he can’t own Rangers.”
  7. Shameless.
  8. I thought there was an issue with Ashley not being allowed to own more than 10% of another club while he still owns Newcastle?
  9. I'll understand if you'd rather not, but any chance of expanding on that?
  10. The fact of the matter is that Wallace & Nash released thier long-awaited 120(+) day business review at the end of April and almost 4 months later very little (if any) of the really important matters it claimed to plan to address have actually been addressed. Extremely important issues like the club's scouting department appear to remain postponed and sitting on the back-burner nearly 4 months later while we're only a couple of weeks away from the close of the transfer window. Asking for the extremely important things to be addressed in a timely manner is far from being 'too simplistic' it's absolutely imperative. One of the real kicks in the teeth for our club is that Wallace and this board went out and hired another extremely expensive PR agent the very day before they released their business review. PR guru: 24 April >>> Business Review: 25 April - We're still awaiting any worthwhile results or benefits from either. Is it too much to ask for them to stop messing us around with business-speak jargon, PR propaganda and total nonsense and just start getting some basics right?
  11. What about yourself D'Art? Have you applied?
  12. Normally I'd laugh at Celtic getting an application rejected, but this is a pretty big blow for any aspirations of safe-standing areas in Scottish stadiums, especially since the SPL previously gave it the green light.
  13. Nah, I'm just being naughty and taking the mickey mate.
  14. Just think, if you get selected you'll be able to get the latest scoops directly from Merlin at the fans board meetings!
  15. Celtic: Safe-standing proposals not met with approval Celtic are "extremely disappointed" after a proposal to introduce safe-standing failed to receive approval from Glasgow City Council. At a meeting with the Safety Advisory Group, the Scottish champions sought permission to install rail seating. "We do not understand the rationale for today's decision," the club stated. "Spectator-safety at Celtic Park is of paramount importance and we believe the proposals we have made would significantly enhance safety." Glasgow City Council claimed Celtic's plan did not offer enough safety assurances to the group, which includes representatives from the three emergency services. Several Bundesliga clubs use rail seating at their stadiums in Germany. For domestically governed games, the seats are locked in the upright position to allow fans to stand and lean on the rails. Whereas for Uefa governed games, the seats are unlocked to comply with all-seater stadium rules. A council spokesman said: "All agencies represented on the safety advisory group felt that a stewarding plan alone, as proposed by Celtic, was insufficient to ensure spectator safety in the standing area. "It is the view of agencies on the safety advisory group that some form of physical barrier between standing and seating areas is required to ensure that a standing area would be appropriately managed. "However, the group would also have to be satisfied that any such barriers would still allow for the movement of emergency services personnel and spectators in the event of an incident at the stadium." Celtic had hoped to lead the way in the United Kingdom with the creation of new safe-standing areas. The club's statement added: "The club has provided substantial and detailed information in support of this proposal over the past two-and-a-half years and has made every effort to address comprehensively all issues raised by the SAG. "Today's decision has been made despite the club also providing the requested additional information from an independent stadium safety expert, Dr Steve Frosdick. "Surprisingly, we have also today been informed by the Safety Advisory Group, chaired by Glasgow City Council, that this may be a matter for the Scottish Government. "Yet we have previously been told by the Scottish Government that this is a decision which must be taken locally at council level." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28777621
  16. One or two of the so-called '12 supporter demographics' just don't make any sense at all. Why separate female fans into their own demographic? Ethnic Minorities? Seriously?

  18. dB, you seem to miss the point that creating and implementing a plan to fix the club's problems is not our job, King's job or the job of anyone else other than the people running the club and getting paid extremely well for doing so. Most of us do try to be as balanced and fair as possible in our criticism of the people running the club, but just because we ourselves haven't outlined a plan for the club's recovery and future doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to ask questions of those we expect to be creating and implementing the plans because it's their jobs.
  19. Still a couple of days to go, but don't forget to enter your predictions for the Falkirk game folks! Do it here - Predictions for Falkirk v Rangers - SPFL Championship match 2 (GPL game 3) Also, it's not too late to join the prediction league, so if anyone fancies it, just say so here and I'll add you to the league!
  20. There definitely ARE people working hard and trying their best at the club, but you're completely right. The club is a shambles from top to bottom with widespread neglect that seems to have stricken almost every department like a disease. Some parts of the stadium become more dilapidated and decrepit with every passing day as old paint either flakes off or gets dirtier, rust eats in and broken windows are left broken. Overall the club isn't even getting a lot of the basics right. The club website isn't being maintained properly or in a timely manner. Our first team squad on the website still shows a goalkeeper who played for Hearts on Sunday, while it doesn't show our own goalkeeper who was on the bench or any of our new signings who were on the pitch. The plc website isn't maintained properly or in a timely manner either. These might seem like trivial points, but they're simple basics which are being neglected and that neglect appears to run throughout the club, from top to bottom.
  21. The 32Red deal probably kicked in when it was signed in mid April. It was reported at the time as being £600k per season for 3 seasons. It's fairly safe to assume that the first £600k has already been paid and spent.
  22. I like the title "You Talk Some Amount of Shite, Phil". The guy's so far up his own arse that he can see the back of his teeth.
  23. Personally speaking, no offence intended to Lee Wallace here, but I really don't think he's our best player. I think he's a good player and according to numerous reports he's a model professional, a true gent etc etc. Our best player though? I don't understand this tag/status at all.
