Same here and mentioned it on another thread, sometimes it is there and sometimes it isn't; no apparent pattern.

Hard to argue with your choices, Gribz, (although I would take issue with 7 being world class) and I wonder if your new category of "near world class" could just as easily be described as European or Top Quality European Class; because almost all of those players would come into that category. My personal opinion is that as good as Mols was, RdB made him a better player than he was in reality; and Prso was a better all round football player (won't easily forget him chasing after the ball any time he lost it, something I don't recall Mols doing, for example). The only obvious ommission is Jim Baxter; but who to leave out? And what of Ronald de Boer himself? Also like to say that Trevor Steven was a better player IMHO than Gary Stevens. I like your summary of Laudrup, unquestionably in my view the only Rangers player in my lifetime, apart from Baxter, to earn the title world class (and have his place in the FIFA rankings to prove it). Gascoigne and Mikhailichenko (a place on the bench?) are the only Ranger's players to have featured in the European rankings, both earning one 4th placing in the nineties. One player whose name I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is, Claudio Reyna, who played in FOUR world cups for the USA, correction he was in the squad but didn't play in 1994. He had 111 caps for the USA. That said he was not guaranteed a place in the outstanding midfield we had at the time (and for that matter neither was Albertz, Tugay or Kanchelskis) and often played at RB.

If I may be so bold, I think that what BM means is that Mr Cameron is a poor sub for anyone remotely connected with Rangers. And as I said earlier, frankly an insult to Brechin City, Rangers fans and Rangers FC.

Has safety been given as areason for non-attendance? I reckon that rather than making non-statements, Mr S Easdale should make a statement about why no Rangers Directors were at this match. I don't usually have much sympathy for Mr Traynor but on this occasion I feel for the emabrrassment he must have been caused at going into to the Brechin Boardroom (presumably) and explaining why no Rangers Directors were present.

Can you quote any examples? I'll stand to be corrected but I can't recall this ever happening before.

I disagree with that entirely (see we don't ALWAYS agree BD!). I regard it as an insult that Rangers FC were represented at this match by a long-standing fan/comedian, our Director of Communications (but not a Director of the Club) and a senior employee; but no Directors of the Club: To Brechin City Football Club To Rangers Fans; but most importantly To the Club itself. Unless under exceptional circumstances and I can't think of any right now; the Club should always be represented at first team competitive matches by at least one Director.

A pointless statement to say I'm not issuing a statement.

Can't accept that at all, remember he was constantly struggling injury.

I think this not very funny thread just about sums up where we are as a club right now; the butt of a thousand not very funny jokes.

No problem Z. but like some others I would be interested to know what use Gersnet intends making of my email address? -
Specifically because of this debate or just in general terms? Care to elaborate?

That totally misses the point, which is that the soldiers have to go where their political masters send them. The rights and wrongs of Afganistan, or any other conflict for that matter, should not be an issue in debating whether or not it is appropriate to honour our troops and the best maner in which to do so.

When I updated my email address last night the system said it would send a confirmation to my new address but it didn't and I got locked out, right in the middle of a very interesting thread; fortunately I was able to contact another member and Frankie has come to my rescue today. Thanks. -
Ronald de Boer was worth the admission money alone; I often said that at the time, so not just making it up now. As I said elsewhere, without a doubt, he had the best football brain of any payer I've seen in a Rangers jersey in more than 50 years of watching the team. Trouble was, Mols apart, no one else he was playing with, was on the same wavelength. I recall a game, couldn't say against whom, at Ibrox when he didn't just telegraph a pass to Lovenkrands, he literally pointed to where he was going to put the ball for Lk to run on to; and stood there in utter astonishment as Lk didn't move and the ball went out for a bye kick. A sublime moment was against Kilmarnock I think or might have been Hibs at Ibrox, when he strolled into the left hand side of the box beating 1, 2 and 3 players and then ever so calmly stroked the ball lovingly almost in a gentle curve inside the far post. A thing of beauty.

I think you have hit the nail on the head here. No one, well practically no one it seems, would argue that nurses and especially cancer nurses don't provide a dedicated and extremely valuable service; but generally speaking they don't put their lives on the line in the performance of their duties. Nor do other professions for that matter, except the Emergency Services. It should't be a matter of which service or profession is more valuable to society; I was an IFA, perhaps I should argue about the value of the services I provided to my clients and get a day out at Ibrox? It's impossible to weigh the value of a soldier's service against that of a doctor or nurse, unless that is you're a doctor of philosophy. One could argue that a soldier is prepared to die to allow a doctor to save a life; but I am not sure that that makes one more valuable than the other. Recognition is quite another matter as your point amptly demonstrates.

Isn't the answer to that question perfectly obvious - the armed forces by their very nature put their lives on the line to defend our freedom. In the same way so do the Police and the Fire Services but not usually on a day to day basis. However I wouldn't argue against an Emergency Services Day; provided it was a formal occasion. It's not "somehow they allow all the other professions to go about their business" that comment really does denigrate the Armed Services; it is a fact that they lay down their lives daily for our freedom by being shot by snipers and standing on IAD's etc fighting the Taliban, not to mention all the other conflicts that have been mentioned. That is why they are deserving of special recognition, provided in my view that it is a formal and respectful occasion and not a free for all (which BTW I am sure wiill not be allowed to happen again). In no way does that detract from the valuable services provided by doctors, dentists, nurses, ambulance drivers, teachers, refuse engineers etc; but it's just not the same kind of service, and I believe you are an intelligent person and know that full well.

Quite so. In fact Laudrup is the only player we have had since 1990 who made the FIFA top ten http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/f....html#player10 (see my #27)

Goram was an outstanding shot-stopper for sure but Schmeichel was voted the 4th and 5th best PLAYER (not goalkeeper, player) in the world in 1992 and 1993 and the best goalkeeper in the world in those years. The IFFHS ranked Schmeichel among the top ten keepers of the 20th century in 2000, and in 2001, Schmeichel won a public poll held by Reuters, when the majority of the 200,000 participants voted him as the best goalkeeper ever, ahead of Lev Yashin and Gordon Banks. (source - Wikipedia). Sorry but Goram was not at that level.

I'm with you on Frank de Boer and Laudrup; but don't think Gattuso was in the same League. What a combination we had at the end of the season 2003/04 with FdeB and Henning Berg; combined ages 68.75 at the centre of our defence.

You wouldn't include Denis Law or Kenny Dalglish?
