Longmuir has taken way too long to get a statement out. While being the only credible and honest member of the 3 men at the top of each body he has been way too weak and quiet, and didnt grab his opportunity months ago. He had the trump card with Rangers being in the SFL for 3 years and has let these sneaks come in the back door and achieve their takeover. It all makes sense now. I think it was Rab who said SFA and SPL have managed to negotiate with SKY to have Rangers away from the SPL for another season (initially it was 1) then the SPL 2 will be in place and a TV deal struck. The season is 6-7 weeks from being underway, they will roll out the fixtures for 12-10-10-10 and plans will be in place for 12-12-18 next year.

All I see is the SFL sold out and now we have a takeover leaving Doncaster steering the sinking ship. There is no change structure wise yet but these sneaks will have something up their sleaves to generate money to so called bigger SPL sides. All we can do is get on with it by winning Div 2 this coming season.

How many deadlines to they get!

Kilmarnock part company with manager Kenny Shiels

Seems a bit harsh. -
A clever man with common sense exposing the fact that its been an attempted take over from day 1 rather than a merger.

Good luck to Weir, at the minimum he would be a terrific coach.
-
Why not? He is a footballing person and I personally quite like him. I could bet he is a different person face to face rather than the act he puts on infront of the media. He is more clever than people think, he is not a fan of the manipulative media so he gives them stupid answers which I like.

If the position was available today I'd have no problem with Strachan taking over, and he'd be higher up on my realistic preference list than most names that have been mentioned. I actually think in the right circumstances he'd do a better job for us than he did them. A few players now like Miller and Mo Johnston have played for both, there will be a time when a manager has done both also.

You have a crystal ball? I dont think we'll be world beaters all of a sudden but give credit where credit is due....its a good win, end of.
-
Very good win. Sadly the appointment was 1 year too late. Anyone could see Levein shouldnt have lead the team into this WC group, it was the best opportunity we've had to get to a tournament since France 98. I like Strachan also and we could do a lot worse at Ibrox.

Sheep don't miss us.......but they can't stop talking about us??
Gribz replied to 54andcounting's topic in Rangers Chat
Doesnt miss us but WANTS to draw us in the one of the cups. Am I missing something there? The guy is obviously a gluepot. How old is this chap? If I recall, they havent won at Ibrox for 22 years and counting and Im guessing you could count on one hand how many times they have taken the lead in that time. As it stands I hope we avoid them in the cups, unless our team improves on last season. They are the last set of 'fans' I would want to enter Ibrox although it would be nice to stuff them and I dont fancy giving them a pay day. Id rather draw the likes of Ross County and St Mirren in the cups next season. -
Not sure about the paint but another cracking top from Chelsea. In the last 6 years they have easily had the best home and away tops in the UK.

Finance shark snaps up 714,285 Rangers shares...............

Pity it wasnt Carol Vorderman....she's like a fine wine! But jeez the guy looks a bit like Craig Whyte, same kinda eye! -
The league is the priority and should be wrapped up in March. Ramsdens Cup showings last season were poor and we should be looking to add this to our history to collect the clean sweep. This is a good season to go for it as next season in Div 1 we should be preparing more and concentrating on league and the other cups. The Scottish and League cups are again a bonus for me. But we should be improving on performances against Dundee Utd and Inverness last season and at least competitive against SPL sides. Runs to the quarter or Semi's finals should be beyond our reach unless we meet Celtic early on. I think every bear would agree we arent strong enough to get past them. But I dont see us being much weaker than any other SPL team. I do think the old sticky balls act will be in place for an OF cup tie this coming season. The SFA NEED this to keep Sky on side.

Making rules up as they go along! How petty! September 1st will come around quick enough anyway once the season starts.

Im not sure Rooney would be a good long term signing, he is 1 of those players like Michael Owen who peaked early in his career and his fitness will be a concern as he gets towards 30. Would be a great signing for 1-2 seasons. Wenger does need a world class signing though. If he adds better players to the ones he has then I can see them challenging. The weak spot at Arsenal is still the keeper. It has been since Lehmann left and even he was a bomb scare at times. They need a safe pair of hands. Reina or Begovic would be good signings.

Cant say I'll lose sleep over Humphrey, never heard of the chap.
-
And they signed Wilson and being linked with others. Not sure how this works.

That Cardiff one is a bit bland. Looking at the puma website I hope the design is something like the Stuttgart strip. But other than Adidas, they dont make shirts like the used to! Probably because they cant keep up. Changing a strip every season is a disgrace. It should be minimum 2 seasons.

This is Ally's 3rd season in charge. 1st year was mixed. He raced into a 15 point lead with some good wins particularly away from home, then lost it as the off field issues started to kick in. However he still had a fine squad capable of doing better although who can tell if the players started to switch off or not. Benefit of the doubt was given. 2nd year he started without a league to play in with only 6 players. When he did get his squad the season was already starting so had no time with them. But as the year went on the team got worse. Benefit of the doubt was given. This is the key year to judge. He is going to have a large squad and a full pre-season. He has the backing of the board with Walter upstairs. I think every fan will accept the odd poor showing every 8-10 games or so and we are realistic that we wont be playing football like the Brazil side in 1970 but we will be expecting much more from last year. There is no excuses this season.
-
Ally has a bit of tinkering to do to that squad. But considering we're in the 2nd Div its a nice problem to have and on paper its decent. Aside from a few players going out and a few coming in, we really need to improve the players we have. Im still hoping a key summer signing is going to be on the coaching staff.
-
Its an interesting one to see if a) if it lasts and he can get on with Abramovic and b) they say never go back, but we only know to well it worked out in Walters case. I think he thought he was getting the Man Utd job when Fergie quit, when he didnt get it he went straight to chelsea. Its a new era next season. I can see Arsenal being stronger as they will sign a few players. Moyes will have to come out the traps running and I think he will start well, its after 6-8 games we'll see how he gets on. City's manager is a bit of the unknown but they still have the best squad. I see Chelsea being much of the same from Mourinho first time around, plenty 1-0 wins. Im going to back Arsenal though. Going by the form of the last 10 games last season, if they carry that in with some better players they will be up there. They just need to start taking more points off the teams around them, they only got 2 points against the top 4 last season.
-
I think we'll get that out of Templeton as he did miss a bit of last season. If Shiels comes good then he is another who can turn a game in the final 3rd.
-
Without taking the situation of any players leaving and assuming Boca + Goian report back, as it stands if we were to go into the season with what we have now then we'd surely have more than enough to win the league at a canter and id expect a better cup run. Numbers are much up from last season and the youngsters who proved they can fit in are 1 year older. If Shiels, Black and Hutton get their game together then its a decent basis of a squad for 2 seasons.

Keep em coming? You trying to get us bankrupt?
