KRIS BOYD will report to Murray Park tomorrow to kick-off his pre-season preparations with Rangers. And the Ibrox goal machine insists he isn't living under the fear of being sold off this summer as speculation mounts Walter Smith will be forced to cash in on one of his leading stars ahead of the new season. Boyd is now entering the final year of his current deal, which means Rangers run the risk of losing out on millions if he fails to agree a contract extension and sits tight until the end of the season before leaving on a Bosman deal. It means the powerful hitman is one of the most likely players to be off-loaded this summer unless he inks a new deal. But Boyd says speculation linking him with a move away from his boyhood heroes isn't going to distract him. He said: "You can't live your life worrying about things which might happen. I was linked with a move away from here in January and it never happened. That situation could arise again, but I hope not. "I'm happy with Rangers, everyone knows that, and I want to be here as long as possible." Boyd has spent the summer basking in the glory of helping Rangers win the title after the 25-year-old played a massive role as the Light Blues crossed the finishing line ahead of Old Firm rivals Celtic. But, if winning the league was tough going for Smith's men, Boyd says it will be even harder to retain their crown with opposition teams desperate to prove their worth against the SPL champions. He said: "It's going to be a new experience for a lot of the boys. I think the gaffer has said we'll have a different challenge now. "Other teams and players seem to try harder when they are playing against the cham-pions. That's something we need to expect and be ready for. "But it's a challenge we look forward to. Winning the league last season is what we all wanted so desperately and, now we've got it, we want to keep hold of it. "Thinking back to winning the league, it was a massive thing for all the boys. "But we probably won't fully appreciate it until years to come. From a player's point of view you enjoy the occasion, then prepare to get going again. That's the frame of mind I'm in at the moment. "I have enjoyed the summer spending time with my family, but we're just about to get going again and I can't wait. Pre-season training is sure to be tough, but everyone will be eager to get back out there. "And hopefully the new campaign brings out the best in us again." Boyd won over his critics last season by improving his all-round game and contributing more to the team. And he said: "I feel I've grown into a more rounded player in the last few years and want that to continue. "There is always pressure at a club like this - especially wearing the No.9 jersey - but I feel I'm able to handle that. "Players have come here in the past and maybe not realised what it's all about and what it takes to play here. But I know now what playing for Rangers is all about." Across the city, Old Firm rivals Celtic have appointed a new manager in Tony Mowbray and made their first signing in £3.8m striker Marc-Antoine Fortune. And Boyd said: "Celtic are going to come at us with all guns blazing. With Tony Mowbray taking over from Gordon Strachan I'm sure they will be looking to stamp their authority back on the Scottish game. "But we'll be ready. They have obviously moved to sign Fortune, a guy with English Premiership experience. But that doesn't guarantee any-thing in the SPL." Meanwhile, Preston are trying to wrest Charlie Adam from Blackpool's grasp in a £500,000 deal and Andy Webster could also be set to leave with Falkirk and Dundee United keen to take the defender on a season-long loan deal. He's not good enough IMO to be playing every week for us unless he improves like hutton did!! Being back up is not helping him football wise either and he's on a decent wage. A move away would be the best thing alround although I did say £500k is a bit cheap when you see other players similar or not much better going for more.............
-
IMO some get a bit carried away. Where did this story come from? Is it just papers guessing or making up a story or a fan making it up and is there any truth at all in it? Until it happens or the player/club say something official it's all bollocks but just IMO.......... Good to laugh at though.........
-
Don't you just love the rumour season
-
If quinn is worth £700k then Adam is worth at least that IMO!!!
-
I'd let him go but only for closer to £1m...............

THE hairs on the back of his neck will stand to attention. Blue blood will rush through his veins. When he stares up at Ibrox's main stand and that famous Champions League tune booms out, Kris Boyd will know he has finally arrived. At that moment he will be exactly where he wants to be. There isn't a lot the Rangers striker hasn't achieved in his time at the club. Top scorer every season, a clean sweep of domestic medals and 102 goals to his name at the age of 25. But the one thing he hasn't done? Start a match for the club he loves on the biggest stage of all. That's why Boyd will return to Murray Park on July 9 as hungry as ever - for a shot at Champions League glory. The hitman rattled in 31 goals as Gers became SPL champions last term but is now desperate to make his mark on Europe's top club competition. Rangers have been involved in eight Champions League games since Boyd's move from Kilmarnock in 2006 but he has only featured in two. And both those appearances came off the bench. But the striker believes he is ready for the step up in class after adding a new dimension to his game last term. He told MailSport: "I took massive strides in terms of becoming a regular starter last season. I've managed to change opinions and the Champions League is the next step. "I've done just about everything I wanted to do in my Rangers career. I have won the title, cups, scored 100 goals and played for Scotland. "But I haven't started a game in the Champions League and next season I want to be part of it. I want to stamp my authority on that tournament. "I feel I'm ready and believe I can play at that level. If I'm lining up at Ibrox with that Champions League music on it will confirm I've matured in to the player I need to be. "It will show I have grown in to the kind of man who can be successful at a club like Rangers. I want to build on that and show I deserve to be there. "Not only have I matured as a player but I've also matured as a person in the last couple of years. I'm the first to admit I had a lot of daftness about me early on in my career. "I was young and naive. I tended to follow other people and was influenced by them. But you have to grow up and realise what is right and wrong. "You need to do it quickly at a club like Rangers if you want to succeed." Boyd rarely passes up a chance in front of goal - as his 102 strikes in just 152 games for the club will testify. But one that did get away came in Gers' vital Champions League last-16 clash against Spanish cracks Villarreal in 2006. With the game tied at 1-1 he came off the bench and missed a gilt-edged chance that might have taken Alex McLeish's men in to the last eight for the first time in Rangers' history. But Boyd isn't haunted by it. Instead the memory of that wasted chance only drives him on to succeed at that level. He said: "I remember the Villarreal game well. We felt we had a real chance of going through and came so close. "I came off the bench in Spain and missed a chance late on - but I don't look back and worry about it. "Of course I think 'what if?' It would have been great to score the goal that took us in to the last eight. But it didn't happen and I've moved on. "If I worried about every chance I missed in my career it would drive me mad. These things happen and it's about how you come back from them. "I'm just hoping this can be my year in the Champions League." Last season was a pivotal campaign in Boyd's career at Ibrox. He came close to leaving in January as David Murray looked to recoup some of the cash lost by Gers' dismal Champions League exit to FBK Kaunas. So it says a lot about Boyd's character that he came back from that stronger than ever - finishing the season as Walter Smith's first-choice striker and breaking the 100-goal barrier. Now Kris wants to start this term the way he finished the last. He said: "I want to be the SPL's top scorer again. I'm known for my goals but it isn't easy doing it every year. "However, I would be disappointed if I didn't hit at least 20 every season. "You get a lot of chances at a club like Rangers so that's the least the fans would expect. "Most importantly it's about the team winning and we're determined to retain our title and win the cups. "A lot of people had their doubts about me as a player but I have improved. It's difficult when you're not everyone's cup of tea. "Everyone said I was reliant on my goals but I have gone a long way to proving them wrong by showing there's more to my game. "When you keep hearing the same criticism it gets you down but it's about how you react. Last season I realised I had to do more and it ended with a championship medal. "I like to think I'm more of a team player now. The most pleasing aspect is I haven't lost anything goal-wise. "Everyone thought that would suffer but thankfully it hasn't." http://www.sundaymail.co.uk/sport-news/scottish-football/spl/2009/06/28/kris-boyd-i-ll-know-i-ve-made-it-at-rangers-when-i-start-a-champions-league-match-78057-21478070/

even if the headless chicken is a striker and doesn't score goals hmmm ok buffel is a wasted talent and has nothing but himself to blame IMO........ i'd never boo a rangers player no matter how bad i think are or how bad they were playing, doesn't help the team................ :box:

WALTER SMITH has vowed to hand Murray Park's top kids a shot at Ibrox stardom. Double-winning Gers boss Smith is ready to axe several fringe players this summer. He will slash the first-team squad from 28 to 20 and give youngsters like John Fleck and Danny Wilson a bigger role. Jim Sinclair, Gers' head of youth development, believes the kids for fame can make a big impact. Sinclair said: "They are as good a crop as I have seen and I hope they can go on. "For them, the ultimate achievement would be to grab a first-team jersey and keep it. "It would be too presumptuous to expect them to pick up a jersey every week next season. "But the season is going to be all about contributing to the team in whatever way they can. "There is no better time than now in view of the fact that the manager has chosen to reduce his first-team squad and use our lads to complement it." Fleck, 17, has the highest profile of the kids on the Murray Park conveyor belt. He became the youngest-ever Scottish Cup winner in 2008 and has already made over a dozen senior appearances. But he will be joined by several other homegrown talents in Smith's plans for next term. Andrew Little has already won senior caps for Northern Ireland at just 20 and has played in a Scottish Cup semi-final. Jamie Ness, Steven Stirling and Ross Perry were among five Gers kids in the Scotland Under-19 squad at the recent Euro elite qualifiers. Andrew Shinnie, Jordan McMillan and Rory Loy are all back at Ibrox from valuable loan spells in the First Division. And 17-year-old centre-back Danny Wilson was frequently on the bench in the run-in to the Double. Wilson, a signing target for Spurs last season, will provide cover for Madjid Bougherra and veteran captain David Weir. And Sinclair believes the teenager has already benefited from working with Gers' senior stars. He said: "The experience Danny gained, despite the fact he didn't actually get on the pitch, would have been invaluable. "Just being around the dressing room, hearing the chat from the manager and seeing how they prepare for such important matches is all part of the education - and a very important part. ''The biggest thing all these lads could ask for is the opportunity that seems to be going to arise. But they have seen other young players go through the system at Murray Park and make it. "So that shows them it is a realistic proposition." There are three reasons behind Smith's decision to promote this batch of kids. He's keen to reduce the wage bill by letting go big earners who played just a handful of games last term. He also wants to give encouragement to everyone in the Murray Park system that they can get the chance to progress. But, above all, he believes this group of youngsters have the potential to become Gers stars of the future. Sinclair added: "The whole reason for Murray Park being here is to breed youngsters for the first team. "It is difficult under any circumstances to look at a youngster and say categorically they are going to become first-team players. "But these boys are making steady progress and any opportunity they get will add to their experience. "They've had a bit of success as they have come through and that can stand them in good stead. "The fact that they have trained with the first team - some on a daily basis and some on a more selective basis - has been brilliant for all of them." http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/2501133/Gers-kids-wont-let-us-down.html

johnnyk replied to Zappa's topic in General Football Chat
Yes Ian the papers are saying virtually half the team wants to play for them now  i'd be happy with that as they never exactly done that well last season did they He was at least their 3rd choice man and has only been given a 12 month rolling contract, doesn't exactly fill you with confidence -

I think he's a decent manager but there was a decent team at Hibs when he arrived there IMO. It's OK wanting to play good passing football all the time but they don't always bring you success and he never changed his style one bit last year when he really needed to IMO. -
KEVIN THOMSON last night insisted Tony Mowbray is taking over at Celtic just in time for a new period of sustained Rangers dominance in Scottish football. Thomson's former Easter Road mentor Mowbray will be unveiled as Gordon Strachan's successor at Parkhead this morning after the s2.5million deal to bring him north from West Brom along with Peter Grant and Mark Venus was completed at tea-time yesterday. But the Ibrox midfielder believes Mowbray will face the fight of his life in attempting to stop a resurgent Rangers from going on to nail down a place at the top of the pile on the back of last season's SPL and Scottish Cup Double Thomson, speaking exclusively to Record Sport, said: "Celtic have got themselves the right man for the job. Tony is a fantastic manager . "But let's not forget we have a fantastic manager of our own in Walter Smith and we are the team in the ascendancy now. "I'm not going to say we are miles ahead of Celtic but I will say this, we are the champions and that means it's their turn to chase us. "I think that's the hardest part of being at the Old Firm. Second best will not be tolerated but that's the situation Celtic find themselves in. "We are in the driving seat right now and know the financial climate is a difficult one. That makes Celtic's task even tougher." And Thomson believes Smith's youthful Rangers side could be ideally placed to go on a run of back-to-back title triumphs. He said: "I look around our squad and I see a lot of good young players. It feels like we might be on the start of something special. We are all confident in our ability to move on to the next step. "It's up to Celtic to beat us. I'm sure Tony will want to make some changes to his team but we've been through the rebuilding work. When the gaffer took over he said he had to make a few signings which were purely short term. "But it was also part of his plan to make some signings for the longer term. We are now reaping the benefits from that philosophy. "The likes of myself, Steve Davis, Steven Whittaker and Maurice Edu are still relatively young - but we have great experience. "That should give us the grounding we need to push on from here and I see no reason why we can't go on to win two, three, four or five titles in a row." http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/2009/06/17/kevin-thomson-tony-mowbray-his-work-cut-out-stopping-dominant-rangers-86908-21447405/
