  1. Well said.
  2. Up into the Lowland League. @ian1964will be off for the next month.
  3. The actual football is nothing special. I may not bother with the second half. I used to like Liverpool from Billy Liddell through St John and Stevenson up to Hall and Heighway but went off them after Heysel and Hillsborough and I’ve never liked Real so I’ll see if there’s a symphony concert or something else exciting. I think there’s a bike chain to clean. That’ll do.
  4. Welcome to the north-east, Rousseau. Should have deployed a question mark, though.
  5. I let you off. Anyway, @craigdoesn’t have “syntax” stuck onto his name.
  6. Whip the ball into a crowded box or try to beat a defender and draw another one out, disorganise the crowd and then whip it in? There’s no right answer, is there? Except variation.
  7. Keeps his head under provocation when he could mollocate the provocateur with one blow from his little finger.
  8. I’m still waiting for Juste Fontaine from Rheims.
  9. I suppose I could cavil with splitting an infinitive and using a noun as a verb, notwithstanding its Latin origin but this a forum for football fans so I suppress my inner pedant. That pedant forbids the use of symbol to qualify a remark so for the avoidance of doubt, the foregoing should be read as a lighthearted response and not didactic. You know what? The inner pedant can take a running jump. One of the wee picture thingies would have saved about fifty words.
  10. Is this not a discussion forum? You rightly say all the relevant teams are beatable. The reader, well me, starts to feel optimistic. @bustercomes along and rightly reminds me of previous disappointment. The optimism remains but tempered by recalled events. I suppose if you were an absolute stickler for accuracy, you would have said all teams are beatable but the chances against the relevant teams are better than against CL group stage teams. @busterwould still have been right with words of caution.
  11. But not exclusively so. Is a newspaper article interesting if it expresses facts already known to the reader but causes him to reflect upon them, or indeed upon the author, in a way which previously the reader had not? The English article interested me because there was nothing adverse in it. Hard to find something adverse to say about Bassey currently but there’s always a barrel’s bottom to be scraped. How about Leicester City discard?
  12. It is now. Scousers dished.
  13. “Interesting” is subjective. CF was interested by the article. He did not suggest that anyone else would be.
  14. I am a Calvinist. Just a different Calvinist from the sort I used to be.
  15. Simms was fine as a disruptor for twenty minutes. Did he not run out of steam? Or was it lack of support?
  16. He’s our man now, CB. Played well enough for Hearts today.
  17. Over the ninety minutes Bassey was brilliant and the ‘keeper highly satisfactory. Souttar probably the best of the rest of our players and Scott Wright was forward-going when he came on, much better than Diallo. Gordon kept Hearts in it. They didn’t have a lot to offer after Simms and Boyce ran out of steam on the twenty minute mark.
  18. Aberdeen Aberdeen Aberdeen (What am I saying?)
  19. Back again. Good man. Was there some unfinished business? Best leave it unfinished. I’ve forgotten what it was.
  20. No. He’s a Rangers fan. Some extreme views. Much like yourself. I agree with some. I disagree with others. Our cousins across the Atlantic are a little more forthright than we are.
  21. We’ll all miss you while your banned. I expect only the very young ones will be around to see you back.
  22. On BBC TV News (not BBC Scotland) at about 6.45 pm the Sports presenter conceded that first place in the sports slot must go to Rangers in Seville, though he didn’t sound as though that was a good idea. He introduced one Jane Dougall in Seville to describe events there which she did stony faced. Reference was made to success in Barcelona and failure in Manchester. The presenter duly gave her the chance to comment on the trouble in Manchester. Dougall said: ”I was there. I was witness to two hundred and fifty thousand Rangers fans who rioted, it’s fair to say, in the city centre” What? She counted them? And they all rioted? One of my boys was there and he didn’t riot nor anything like it. BBC will be getting a letter in the morning. Meanwhile perhaps @26th of footcould tell me if Dougall has previous?
  23. Singing and percussion lessons required. And slimming pills.
  24. McGregor; Jardine, McKinnon, Cuellar, Caldow; Greig (Capt) Smith (D) Baxter; Johnstone, Stein, Brand. Subs: Ritchie, Davis (H), Ferguson (B), McMillan, Wilson.
