Hmmm, it depends on what you mean by "fair and square" I used to play Monopoly in my young days (a long time before playstations) and I had one cousin who always wanted to be "banker" and would sneakily help himself to extra funds every now and then. I never considered his victories "fair and square". If we weren't playing by the same rules as everyone else we should voluntarily give up those titles acquired during the period of cheating. I don't think they should be allocated to anyone else as it would be impossible to know who would have won the titles if we hadn't cheated.

The story of Rangers climb through the leagues as we fight our way back to the top is going to be one of the great stories, if not the greatest story, of the club's history. This has already created a much larger audience than football in this country has had for a very long time and more people will be drawn in over the years. The situation where there were only two clubs winning the top league has turned many people away over the past couple of decades and has been very unhealthy for the game. Rangers are in position to lead a renaissance in Scottish football. (imo)

The legality or otherwise has, I feel, always been a bit of a red herring: If you want to be part of an organisation you have to abide by the rules of the organisation - if you feel you have been unfairly treated by that organisation then you need to complain firstly to the head committee of the organisation and then, if that gets you nowhere, to any superior group that the organisation is part of. Where the rules stand against the laws of the land is, I believe, completely irrelevant. The bottom line is that nobody is forcing you to be part of that organisation - but if you do want to be then you have to accept their judgement whether you like it or not. The law has nothing to do with it.

That is in no way a valid parallel. If you grew your hedge so high that it broke local bylaws then you would have no say in how much of it had to come off - that's a wee bit closer to the situation.
