Palace consider Ally McCoist - EXCLUSIVE
The Real PapaBear replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
alternatively, it could be a pal of Ally's putting his name into a bit of positive spin, telling us that he can't be that bad after all. -
I wonder if it isn't just simple economics. Back when Tom English was good, it was a different media landscape. He worked for a broadsheet and would have had a degree of job security. In this environment he was able to take a loftier, more balanced view of the world and write accordingly. The last couple of years has seen a rapid change in the media landscape. The days of comfortable 'tenure' are long gone and now old Tom finds himself in an environment where he has to make sales and justify his salary. You don't make sales by presenting people with facts - you make sales by pandering, adopting positions and stirring controversy. Now, with the days of broadsheet security just a memory, Tom suddenly finds himself just a hack for hire and all he has to sell are his opinions and integrity.

If you've been associated with Rangers over the past two decades you should be ignored? So we can rule out the de Boers and Henning Berg, then? Better easy and lazy than blinkered and stupid, I'd say. McCall and McInnes have both been successful and have both managed to get a silk purse out of a sow's ear. McCall in particular has shown great talent in finding and molding talent, working on a shoestring budget and being able to rebuild teams when his best players are sold and both of them have managed to turn teams into units, particularly in the case of McInnes, so neither of those would be either easy or lazy options. "We need the old ways incinerated " - care to explain how the football played by either McInnes or McCall's teams is a reflection of "the old ways". We needa manager who is able to take what we have, stop the rot and make something of it from which we can build while there is still time. Sweeping statements about "twenty years", "old ways" and "usual suspects" are just , well, easy and lazy. -

maybe the more pressing question would be, what will be the cost of not removing him. Unless there is the managerial equivalent of a hat-trick in extra time, we will be looking at starting next season with a team that is no further forward in any department than it is now. At some point we all have to accept that the McCoist experiment has failed. Ally deserved his chance and he has been given it. Now it's time to move on. We don't need Davie Moyes right now, we need somebody like Stuart McCall or Derek McInnes to give us some direction and something to build from. -
have you been drinking?

if they get through they will do so on away goals or by a single goal. No way on god's earth will they get through "with ease".

ok, he was 'ineligible' not 'suspended' - what's the difference? In both cases the player was 'ineligble' to play.

yet Debrecen got away with a small fine when they did it?

did we ever find out the circumstances that lead to the mistake coming to light? i.e did Timmy get a heads up from UEFA and lodge a complaint or was this something UEFA found out by themselves?
-
I'm hoping this is good news. Surely if Legia's appeal was going to be dismissed, UEFA would simply have said, 'naw, beat it' - but it sounds like they are spending today getting all their ducks in a row instead. Let's hope they are working on a statement which begins, "The official who awarded Celtic a walkover victory did nothing wrong. However,....."

i really hate to agree with this, but I do. We have a squad of players who should be fighting for second place in the top flight; instead, we'll be fighting for second in this division if we're lucky. -
couldn't agree more. I disagree with D'art on just about everything I'd imagine, but although he is invariably wrong ( )he is wrong in a respectful and well argued manner. If more of us adopted this approach (and I include myself in that) we'd be better off as a support

No, No and Yes.

Warsaw have got to take this all the way to the Court of Rbitration in Lausanne and cite the Debrecen precedence. They have nothing to lose.

this post is narrow-minded, petty and bitter - and I couldn't agree with it more

Laws Of The Game: What Changes Would You Make?
The Real PapaBear replied to Hildy's topic in Rangers Chat
ok, let me explain. If the injured player is 'at it' and spends 2 minutes on the ground knowing that he's eating up time because the ref will only add 30 seconds, then we have 2.5 mins of wasted time. If however the player knows that if he spends two minutes on the ground and two minutes will be added then there is no incentive for him to play act. Once players realise that time wasting is no longer a tactic, I think we'll be amazed at how quickly it stops -

Laws Of The Game: What Changes Would You Make?
The Real PapaBear replied to Hildy's topic in Rangers Chat
The length of the game should be 90 mins, including natural stoppages and the ideal scenario is to keep it a s close to 90 as we can. On that we are all agreed. In reality however , a substitution can take 45 seconds, but the ref adds 15 or an 'injured player can take 2 minutes to get treated and the ref adds 30 seconds. So in reality, the game takes 2 and a half minutes longer than it would do if the timekeeping was independent. -

how about taking the timekeeping away from the referee? Let the ref referee the game and let someone else start and stop the clock? That way time-wasting becomes a thing of the past oveernight.
