Very broadly, Ashley at Newcastle didn't look to fatten them up by investing much money. He extracted value and money whilst they performed on pitch at a poor to middling level. Fans didn't like it, he didn't care. He eventually made a big profit on his initial investment because of the increased demand for EPL clubs from extremely wealthy people/groups. The latter point could be replicated with us dependent on how European football evolves alongside associated revenue streams. All that said, at this stage everything is merely speculation.

I remember that many of our fans, at least on the message boards gave Charles Green the benefit of the doubt, using the logic that for them to make money, Rangers needed to do well. Some did the same with Mike Ashley. Saying that he would invest so as to get us to the Champions League because he couldn't with Newcastle. I am far from being a fan of Barry Ferguson but IMO, this isn't really on him. It is more on those who decided to appoint him. Generally, we have had this type of player mentality at Ibrox for years which allied to a lack of vision and leadership upstairs has produced Omnishambles FC. An interim period of 2-3 weeks, ok but 3 months was too long for BF&friends. That said, Patrick Stewart was between a rock and a hard place and not many would have fancied the gig.

There are four games left. Youngsters who are considered potential for next season should get significant game time, period. Rarely do we get opportunities (dead rubbers) to do so. When they arise, you should take advantage. Will that mean an under 20 team for the Celtic game, no. You have the secret to catch up quickly, you are a message board genius.
