  1. At its base, beyond the current more receptive political environment (for them), they are generally much better at the game than we are. I think that in part, it comes from a rebellious culture that comes naturally to them, whilst generally, we are too tunnel visioned and unimaginative. (I say we, if we are talking about the football side of things but when it comes to religion, I haven't time for any)
  2. Just what we need, another "poor attitude" (De Zerbi quote) 😁
  3. Reliable sauce just saw Deli Ali in The Louden eating a free pie.
  4. Patterson and even moreso, Bassey were forces of nature that drove down their respective wings and delivered. Physique and power are very important in todays game and I think help give Tillman the advantage over Lowry, as it stands.
  5. I agree that a lot more depends on the lad himself. Too many youngsters don't apply themselves enough. They don't want it badly enough. Beale is good to listen to but I get the impression that a lot of it is window dressing. Nobody wanted to watch a Gio presser and its make a cup of tea and get the biscuits out for the Beale show. I thought Gerrard got the tone and content just right in pressers. No big deal, it is the results that matter.
  6. Whatever misgivings or doubts anyone has about individual players, we really have to give the manager a chance to bring his players in and build his way. The degrees of pressure at Rangers will mean that 95%+ of the time, developing youngsters will get pushed down the pecking order when the manager can bring in more expreienced players. Pressure that makes establishing a player trading model much more challenging. No player trading model and our finances don't work. Unforunately, Lowry would be better off going elsewhere and getting regular first team football.
  7. Joint Managers with Scholes as number 2
  8. Frank could slot in nicely at Chelsea and given it is still the first half of January, could go for the record of how many times you can get sacked in a calendar year. Or he could team up with Gerrard and see if together, they can do it in the EPL 😄
  9. He has the talent, he needs to show he has the mentality and work his butt off wherever he spends the next few months.
  10. I don't disagree wrt which I would rather have, if it were a straight choice. Disclaimer - I don't know much about either but am looking at profile / type of signings.
  11. Is there a hidden message in that post ? That Cantwell would have the Cho Cho chap on toast ? 😆
  12. The way it should be IMO. - the club (any club) obviously have to hope that they have the right manager in. - given average player contract length and average manager longevity it comes with obvious danger - At Rangers there is huge pressure on results so most managers won't side with youth development, even though they may initially talk about it. Some fans want it both ways but until we produce top class players or have no money, it will play a secondary role. When we produce top class youngsters, they are poached....just as we poach from the rungs below us. I agree, Bassey is a great example but those stars will probably align once in a while. I don't think there is any doubt that it was his physique aligned to attitude that were the main drivers. We provided the coaching and opportunity. Patterson was also a big and powerful lad who had real belief. Size and power seem to matter. Beale talks a good game and that has had a positive effect on our determination to eek out results, often in the second half of games. However, I wouldn't put much weight on soundbites in press conferences (he was big on loyalty at QPR, until he wasn't). The proof will simply be in the pudding and that will come soon enough. Fingers crossed because we don't need more non-producing large salaries, eg. Matondo.
  13. The club will have to develop fit and hungry players and add the value. It might mean a fallow year or so but at least it might go somewhere. Rather than sign guys with your fingers crossed who might have once been a player or is a player when you can keep him fit. The road to a repetitive nowhere.
  14. My memory isn't what it once was. Gerrard built a squad in his first year or two but since then....some individuals have been good but collectively ?
  15. Hence the interest. Recruitment this year had better be excellent or we'll be getting nowhere fast. Can't remember the last decent window we have had.
  16. Haven't a scooby about the player but if the above is true that three different managers got fed up with him and jettisoned him, then the gambling odds become longer. I have droned on about bringing in too many players on long odds gambles, whether it be for injury history, attitude or whatever. It's akin to punters doing football accumulators. It has been the plan to bridge the financial gap. ie. (ex)quality on the relative cheap, hoping to keep them fit or provide the right motivation. Personally, I don't think it is the way to go. Developing mostly hungry, fit and motivated young players has to be the way forward. It will be very interesting to see what the squad looks like come the end of the summer transfer window.
  17. Also worth noting that he has already been called out for his attitude this season by the first team manager.
  18. I tend to agree. However, there is an element of backing your manager's judgement. Cost wise, the agents of TD and NC have a good negotiating base (initial pressure on club to give new manager what he has gone public about) and the salaries would likely be relatively high.
  19. Aye, generally the issue seems more to do with the hand ball rule / interpretation, than it is with VAR.
  20. We have the answer to our goalkeeping problem already in the building 😁
  21. If he were more mobile, I wouldn't have a problem with his build. He used to be more mobile. We improved more down to a general increase in urgency and tempo. The style of Morelos suited our game, more than an ineffective, injured and not matchfit Colak.
  22. You see a lot of players with his current build and mobility in non league football. Probably in the Scottish lower leagues as well.
