I very much enjoyed that. I have never rated Southgate. I think they were lucky in the WC and even the Euros to a large extent by easy (home) draws. The only notable result was the win against Germany, but even then, Germany were not great at that stage. The only thing I can say for him is that he created a cohesive unit; it seemed like they were all together. His tactics are so poor. He reminds me of Scotland's Clarke: it's negative, defensive football, based on organisation. To be fair, it will get you so far, but then there are better teams that will show you up.

You can also look at it this way: we've shat it in the league, but still get a shot at the CL because of our good European performances.

I thought he was signed to play as an #8 - which is where he played at Sheffield Utd - but, when he played there for us, he looked poor. It was only when he played as a #6 that he looked comfortable. Maybe he also just took a little bit longer to get settled into the club too. I never thought he was a bad player. Yes, there is no point in arguing about whether he was a "top performer" pre-january... BECAUSE IT'S UNTRUE!

I will say, I never wanted him punted. I always thought he could contribute. He was never played in the right position - other than the 3-4 games in October. When he gets a run at #6, he starts to perform. It might have just taken him that long to get settled anyway?

He plays ~120 minutes in August. He then has a good 4 games in the last week in September and into October. And then he plays barely any minutes until February 6th. You're just making it up. For what purpose, I have no idea? Hey ho.

Yes, I recall there were a good 3-4 games in there - I mentioned as much above, somewhere. GS stated that "even first half of season he was mostly a top performer". That's untrue.

I am highly in favour of selling Bassey now. We get so caught up in a player's form. We go from 'he's worth £25M but he's too important to be sold' to 'he's p*sh - we'll not make our money back on him' when they have a couple of poor games. When their value peaks, sell them! Bassey's value will never be higher than this.

Brenden Aaronson is a very good player - I'm surprised they got him. He's clearly going for players that suit his style, which is not bad. But, I agree; as a recruitment strategy it's poor. It reminds me of Ange, just buying a bunch of players because he knows them.
