Surprised some miss Alexander as I thought he was the main protagonist of any long ball tactics we played. -
Summer transfer window: Official ins/outs and transfer rumours

If that's the case it seems like a brilliant way to play in the league. 33 wins and 3 draws and almost 3 goals a game, means that it worked perfectly. If other teams do the old fashioned "play to win", then their results suggest they are doing something sub-optimal... -
I've got to say I've never had a problem with any Celtic fans being Catholics but do have a problem with those that support the IRA, and for me, I've always believed the F word means supporter of the IRA, I can't really work out the Catholic interpretation except at a stretch. Of course anyone can misinterpret and misuse a word and if enough do it, the perceived meaning can change. As for GSTQ, there are only two official verses, and those don't contain the "crush" part. I'm happy enough to leave those other verses as a historical curiosity and fodder for amusing banter by the Big Yin. You would have to take a demented twist on FOS of epic Timmy proportions to find it anti-English.

Eh, what are you on about? Care to explain? Or are you just trolling? It would make a nice change to be addressed by someone making a cogent point... Weird, considering how the forum was complimented in the OP.

I thought I'd pretty explicitly explained both... If you want to put your hands on your ears chant, "la la la" then there's not much I can do.

Lol, you are showing a very defined modus operandi (I would have put MO but your MO means I'd have to explain it - besides we educated cognoscenti have a Latin theme going down) ; I predicted you'd pick up on that one although I'm actually hoping you're really being self depricatingly humorous; however, your MO means it is very difficult to tell. That was actually my phone's text prediction which changed the spelling and I thought it looked wrong but didn't think it was that important, then thought, "bet if it's wrong he'll be pedantic about it..." Do spell and grammar check all my posts; I quite fancy having an editor who works for free.

It seems your posts are incredibly ambiguous, so I can't reliably interpret your true intention but I'm inferring a lot of irony in this one... To answer your question in a reasonably straight manner but letting you work it out for yourself, can you recall the very first word of the song in question? I think it is one letter long, if you need a further clue. I admit I might not be exact in what the song is pedanticly called. But the first letters from the words of the first line should be enough for assimilation in a debate in the context here.

Ha ha, classic misdirection using extreme pedantry to insult someone you disagree with. Must have hit a nerve there as wasn't even you I replied to if I recall correctly. Let me inform you that I'm educated enough to understand the Latin phrase, "De facto." I do know that OFOS is not technically the national anthem of a Kingdom which is not yet technically a country in its own right but I do know that during that awkward moment when our football, rugby and other teams are supposed to sing their national anthem, this is what we play. I personally believe this makes it our de facto national anthem. Now if you want to continue to argue about semantics then I'm really not interested as I was respectful enough to assume a degree of sophistication in my audience that negated such tediousness. If you want to interpret the song as anti-English then that's up to you, I think I've made a strong argument against this but as another poster often says, "suum cuique." Another phrase I like is, "Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum video." Feel free to also get arsey when someone uses the term "Union Jack" as the name of the union flag...

If the club had been run properly we'd have made a loss in the first year which would have been covered by the IPO, broken even in the second year, and be increasing the player budget for this season with increased income and still break even - with money left over from the IPO for investment into future income projects or remedial work that saves money in the long term. I don't think it's about where the money is coming from, it's about where it's going...

PS the context of TBB is actually of a razor gang from Brigton led by Billy Fullerton (reportedly a fascist) who apparently sang this song while marching through Catholic areas on a Sunday. It's a song about attacking certain people so that they bleed copiously and not remotely of defending your people. I really fail to see how it is analogous to our national anthem. That's really a huge step.

I don't recall the word, "England" being in O Flower of Scotland lyrics, or indeed any anti-Englishness whatsoever in the song at all. It's a song which is very plainly about standing up to an aggressive invader, which I believe is something any country should be proud of. It is even extremely respectful and not exactly glorifying in violence with regards to the antagonist - "Proud Edward's army", "sent him homewards, tae think again." Do the English take umbrage against that? It even specifically removes any national slight by naming the aggressor who was considered a very unpopular, arrogant and treacherous king - and of course his army, who have to do as he commands. For what I would see as a pretty easy song to understand, many really seem to struggle with it, as it categorically has no bigotry (especially in regard to anti-Englishness) in it whatsover. Shame some of our own nationals don't even get it. It can't be compared with a very aggressive and violent tone with the lyrics lacking a context of reason for it when considering TBB - "We're up to our knees in *** blood, surrender or you'll die." (Imagine the *** being "English" and sung by the Tartan Army - then there would be an anti English point.) If you changed the lyrics of TBB to something about the defence of Londonderry and used the respectful tone of OFOS then I would imagine it would be fine. For example: Hello, hello, We are the 'Prentice Boys. Hello, hello, You'll know us by our noise. We gallantly repelled proud James, "No surrender" was the cry! For we are the Londonderry boys. I doubt many could find anything wrong with that - apart from being totally irrelevant to Rangers and football. I really do wish people would stop bastardising our national anthem and instead learn the words and what they mean.

I would say this sums up an attitude that reflects most of what is wrong with the world these days. And we're supposed to be from the country that brought the enlightenment... With an attitude like that, how can we complain about anyone treating us badly - and so what if they feel good about it? But then about 2000 years ago, a guy was nailed to a tree for suggesting we all be nice to each other for a change. The irony is that most those who refuse to be nice in Scottish football, claim to worship him.

Ah, the good old "pub teams" argument. Never played for one but played against plenty for my work team. The last year I played we finished runners up in both the league and cup. Seems from that evidence like I could have been a pretty good professional in the lower Scottish leagues even though I wasn't one of the more talented players - but in reality I know that's not even a minute possibility in this universe. This is an argument that just starts off with zero credibility. Maybe you should devise this plan and send to all the lower league clubs in Scotland and see who takes you up on it. Take 120 days over it as it's full of as much meaning as the corporate speak in Wallace's review. And achieved the non-negotiable goals of successive promotions. Some youngsters have praised McCulloch for helping them progress... As has been said, if you take this playing youth to it's natural conclusion, it means playing 11 of them - what's the difference in that and the U21 league, except that they would be under incredible pressure in front of tens of thousands of fans for the results? These arguments always seem to go round in circles with the proponents claiming that Hutton is 23 and Little is 24 and so don't count, but it just suggests that players over 22 should never be played and should retire from the game. You have to wonder what people want to achieve and why they think that a guys in their mid to late 20's and early 30's are too old to play football. I want to achieve promotion and then become champions of Scotland, and if that means avoiding playing a bunch of youngsters, most of whom have no chance of making it to the top, in some fantasy that they will all become world class, then that's all well and good to me.

I still can't see how that works except by giving us a lot longer time in the lower leagues to rebuild.

Summer transfer window: Official ins/outs and transfer rumours
calscot replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
Kris Boyd is making a dramatic return to Ibrox after Rangers made a last-minute move to persuade the striker to sign for them rather than Aberdeen. The 30-year-old Scotland international, a free agent after running down his Kilmarnock contract at the end of a season that brought him 22 goals, has held talks with several English Championship sides as well as top-flight clubs north of the border. Aberdeen looked to be in pole position after manager Derek McInnes confirmed a deal had been put to Boyd and said he was confident it would be accepted. But Sportsmail understands Boyd has agreed terms with Rangers and will spearhead their attack, as they bid to continue their fast-track return to the top tier. It will be a popular move with Rangers fans, after Boyd racked up over 100 goals in a four-year stint at Ibrox that ended in 2010. -

They're not quite out yet. It's within the realms of plausibility that Italy win their remaining games and England win 2-0 to qualify...

I recall that he went out of form just when it looked like he would be making a move to England. If he was never on form, I can't see how he would have earned the move. -

I thought Jelavic and Naismith played extremely well under McCoist, and we scored over a hundred goals in the league last season... Daly scored 25 for the season, which is a fair haul. Last season Little and McCulloch scored 25 and 26 - about 2 in every three games. I really don't think McCoist has had that great a supply of talent to work with since admin. As usual there is almost no comparable evidence to conclude whether the coaching has been beneficial or detrimental. As for Hemmings, there are few young players we have let go who have gone on to much bigger things, with Gattuso being the greatest exception. Once he's banging them in for a bigger club than us, it's time to make a judgement, not before. -
Wasn't it about 33k, ie almost double? It certainly shows a lot of unhappy customers...
-
Seems to me that the 17k gives them a base to continue trading while rely on matchday ticket sales which are a pretty good bet once the season gets going. That's an unknown quantity that they are betting on - as well as a tranche of new season ticket sales and some late renewals. I think 17k gives them a playable hand before the flop.

There is only one main reason I can fathom for not wanting your shareholding diluted and that is control. So the question for the anonymous controlling investors is why don't they want to lose control? What do they have to lose as long as the club is managed well? The only answer I can think of is that they lose control of the external (onerous) contracts and loans and ability to sell and lease back to make more money. I can see this as the only reason that they don't want King investing and so will do everything to prevent it - including selling their shares without a massive profit. I can't see how King can do anything without getting royally ripped off and put in a position where he can't fund the future rebuilding of the club, until there is a scenario where their plan will fail and he is their best option for maximising their profit or minimising their loss. The only way to do this is seems to be to persuade the fans to starve the club's income.

A big reason for Ally not to walk is that I doubt he thinks he's doing a shit job - which given his results is a pretty reasonable assessment ie not shit. I would guess he sees himself as trying his best under great pressure with the poor tools he's given, and ruing the fact he doesn't have the resources and the lack of strange obstacles of previous managers. I doubt those that think he is shit would be able to explain it to his face without looking a complete fool. As I said before, if you were playing one of those football manager's games, had all the weird stuff thrown at you like Ally did, but you still had his results and then were fired, I'd bet you'd be furious and asking for your money back. I think quite a few would give up much earlier in disgust at unfairness of the game...

Scottish FA considers move from Hampden Park
calscot replied to ian1964's topic in General Football Chat
Got to say, while never been a great fan of the stadium itself due to perpetual lack of investment meaning it's not the first class stadium our football history deserves, leaving it would be ditching one of the most prestigious histories of any football stadium in the world - by far outshining Wembley which only started holding internationals (except for Scotland) when Hampden on its current (third) site was already about 48 years old. Hampden holds the European record attendance for an international match and world record for a club match plus UEFA competition record and still holds every major European record there is. It also has records such as the first press box as well as first permanent tannoy system. The name has been used (for three sites) since 1873 - almost 50 years before the first Wembley was built. However, I must admit I'm envious of Wales' Millenium stadium, which shows you what you can do when football and rugby get together - and of course when the government actually helps fund something to the tune of £46m.
