Loving the character assassination of the guy. I literally did not see the shirker so many claim he was. I remember that rainy awful night in Falkirk when we were struggling, 0-0 it was. My hypothetical view is that the administrators would look at the entire weekly wage - say it's £350k (guess). Then they'd say to Ally that the maximum the club can afford is...maybe £70k a week. Then it would be up to Ally to bargain with top earners to get them to take massive cuts, or accept that they have to be cut loose. He could maybe keep one or two of his best players, who might go down in wage, but overall it would be about trying to get the squad down to a very small weekly wage - and it would be left to Ally to decide who stays, who goes, and get as good a squad as he can left within that budget. Dunno, just thinking out loud really.

Has to be said he failed in Spain - no wonder, he wasn't very good anyway - a cult hero here regarding his attitude but his ability was never great. He was never going to thrive in a league of the quality of Spain's.

Whittaker isn't worth 20k, I don't understand Ally's obsession last summer with securing him at all costs. But that said after a dire start he played much better in the autumn, before sorta tailing back to mediocrity after that. And who let this guy sign for Rangers? Walter Smith!

Not really sure what the point of this thread is...but I take issue with the Healy comments. Calling him Beattie mark 2 is grossly unfair. He's at least scored several goals for us and didn't cost us £1.5M!

Both of you are right. He played a lot of matches at LB for St Mirren, but has been awful in every position for us at the back bar being an 'ok' RB.
