Rangers have agreed a £1.5million fee with Stoke City for James Beattie.
ian1964 replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
The thing about being linked to these type of players is that you would think the likes of Blackpool,Wolves etc would be interested in signing them if they could still do a job?,you would think they have more money than us?.- 164 replies

ARTHUR NUMAN reckons Holland Under-21 star Nacer Barazite will be a revelation at Rangers. The Arsenal front man is on trial at Gers with a view to a loan deal at Ibrox if he impresses. Barazite played in the second-string's 2-1 defeat to Glentoran on Tuesday night and did enough to catch the eye of coach Ian Durrant. Former Gers defender Numan - now Dutch Under-21 assistant boss - believes Barazite can do his old club a turn. Numan told SunSport: "Nacer is such a promising youngster and Rangers have seen the quality he has in the friendly against Glentoran. "We have promising players with the Holland Under-21s and they all play every week, which is what Nacer needs. "He needs to play every week to become stronger and gain more experience so I think a move to Rangers would be ideal." Numan knows all about Barazite's capabilities having watched him several times last season for the Gunners' reserves. Numan said: "I know him from the Holland Under-21s as he was in the squad for a couple of games. I have also seen him play a number of times for Arsenal reserves. "We have a number of players in England and sometimes I will go over and see them. "He was in the Under-21 squad for six game but he then picked up a shoulder injury. "He had to have an operation and was out for three or four months so hopefully he will be playing soon for a club. "He is someone who can play in a number of positions on the left, right or through the middle. "As a coach, you have different options with him which is quite an advantage. "He is a strong and tall - and he has experience at the highest level with Holland and Arsenal. "He is 20 and at the stage where he wants to play every week. He doesn't want to be playing every Monday in the reserves. He will want to prove himself at the highest level. "I think that's one of the reasons he has gone to Rangers to try to get a move there." THE worry was the Tartan Army were going to boo him. But after last night, the Scotland fans should be CHEERING Allan McGregor. In his first game in 16 months since Bevvygate, McGregor was supposed to be facing the firing squad. Thing is, the Rangers No1 thought he'd be shot down by his own punters, not Sweden's strikers. But as disappointing as that first half was for Craig Levein's boys, it was a massive 45 minutes for the Ibrox keeper. In my eyes, despite conceding two goals, once again he proved his class between the sticks. Without him, Scotland would have been FOUR down. His first touch was supposed to attract a chorus of catcalls. If the Tartan Army were booing him, you couldn't hear it for the Sweden fans celebrating as McGregor's first job back as Scotland keeper was picking the ball out of his own net. He was helpless for that goal, done in by the defenders in front of him. They were marking space but space doesn't score goals, guys like Zlatan Ibrahimovic do. But you know what, conceding that goal might just have been the BEST thing that happened to McGregor. If the jeers didn't come three minutes into his first game back and a goal down, they never will. Not unless a capacity Hampden crowd decide to get on his back first time he plays there. If I'm brutally honest though, there's no point. I used to go to Parkhead and get dog's abuse. It never bothered me. Gazza used to get booed, Coisty used to get booed. It was water off a duck's back. The reason's simple. Great players don't bother their a*** when they get booed. Bad players can't bother because they KNOW they get pelters for being s***. I'm sure McGregor didn't fancy the idea of getting booed by his own. But he IS a great player so that sort of thing wouldn't have seen him have too many sleepless nights. In any case, he's proved 100 per cent Scotland need him. Advertisement Quantcast There's every justification for him being No1. Craig Gordon is world class but if Gregsy got the nod he couldn't complain. His saves last night proved that. Levein will be delighted with the way he played. He won't be too chuffed with the rest of the team right enough. You're only as good as the players in front of you - and the boys in front of him weren't very good at all. The midfielders never tracked runs and it all led to a lot of pressure put on the keeper. People might criticise him for spilling that shot in the first half from Ola Toivonen. But the way he reacted to save the follow up from Johan Elmander was different class. He had the reactions you expect from a top class keeper and I thought he deserved credit. His save before Bajrami hit the second was a classic. Again, he was let down by his team-mates to gift the boy so much space in the first place, but it was a brilliant reaction save. It was just the same in the second half and McGregor saved his mates from a real humiliation. He made two brilliant saves, the first from Elmander, the second from Christian Wilhelmsen. It could have been eight or nine, I defy anyone to say he wasn't our man of the match. Tell me anyone else in that Scotland side you could give that award to? Levein was a rugged, no-nonsense defender. He MUST see that performance wasn't good enough and be willing to do something about it. I think he'll also see he's got a top keeper on his hands who will make sure Gordon's NOT guaranteed his place back. The thing that pleases me about last night was it didn't surprise me. Maybe other people were taken aback by the level of his performance, but I know what he's all about. I just hope this has nailed the notion of McGregor being a Scotland villain. He's done the crime but he's also done the time. All the boys involved in that whole mess knew they were out of order. Sometimes I just wonder if McGregor gets a rougher ride as he's the so called bad-boy. Whatever's gone on in his life, I think he's proved he's back to his best. Walter Smith is the best in the business at using adversity to get the most out of his players. McGregor finished last season strong and he's started this campaign in the same way. Once the sting of defeat fades from the Sweden game, I think he'll see last night in Stockholm closed the book on Bevvygate. Rangers have agreed a £1.5million fee with Stoke City for James Beattie.
ian1964 replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
STOKE striker James Beattie will arrive in to Glasgow today for talks with Rangers and is set to seal a £1.5m switch to the SPL champions. But the Ibrox club's bid to sign Rapid Vienna hitman Nikica Jelavic is all but dead as the Croat's cash wrangle with the Austrian side remained unresolved. However, the news that Beattie is on his way to Glasgow will excite Rangers fans who have endured a two-year transfer drought. Record Sport revealed in July that Beattie was on Walter Smith's radar and he will arrive at Murray Park today for signing talks. Beattie's current £35k-a-week salary will be a stumbling block but Rangers are hopeful of clinching a deal for the 32-year old. The Premiership club yesterday shelled out a club record £8million for Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones and want Beattie off the wage bill. The move for Beattie comes as Jelavic's proposed switch reached breaking point. Record Sport can reveal Ibrox chief executive Martin Bain contacted the Austrian club yesterday to demand a final answer on his £4m offer for the 24-year-old striker. He set a 24-hour deadline for Rapid and Jelavic to come to an agreement on how much the player will receive from the transfer fee - and said the offer will be withdrawn if no deal has been struck by this afternoon. Rangers boss Walter Smith had hoped that the capture of his top summer transfer target would have been secured but is now assessing alternatives. Blackburn striker Jason Roberts is one of the names on Smith's radar along with Beattie. Smith and Bain are also still waiting for an answer from Portsmouth after lodging a £1.5m bid for winger Tommy Smith. Record Sport understands the SPL champs made their move for the 30-year-old a month ago but were told to back off while Pompey fought a battle with the tax man. They won their case last week and indicated that they would be willing to accept an Ibrox offer. Bain met their demands but has yet to get permission by the administrators to open talks with the player. In addition, the Ibrox club's hopes of signing Georgie Welcome have been hit by red tape after they failed to secure a work permit for the 25-year-old Honduran hitman. Rangers will now look to appeal but Record Sport understands that will fall on deaf ears and their attempts to sign the World Cup star will end in disappointment. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/2010/08/12/premiership-hitman-james-beattie-jets-into-glasgow-for-rangers-move-talks-86908-22482116/- 164 replies

I find it hard to accept your reasoning regarding Boyd,I was a Boyd fan for his goal scoring acheivements which is really unarguable, however WS never trusted him in the big games because of his inability to contribute in other parts of his game, which is what split the Rangers fans with him.WS was happy to let him go and is convinced he will sign a player who will fit into his system better than Boyd would, and I suspect Boyd knew that and that is why he left,IMO. The proof is in the pudding, lets wait and see if Walter is correct,he has been so far!!. I think Walter knows what he is doing by replacing Boyd for the benefit of the team. Trust in Walter. Boyd could have gone to Birmingham and made Rangers some money, but he said he wanted to stay if he earned what Miller earned, which I agree with, then he said he wanted to wait and see if WS was staying before deciding,WS said he was staying then Boyd left eraning the Rangers zero. Boyd has gone, move on and let's see what the new guy has to offer.

Agreed mate, but it is the TRANNY ARMY we are talking about here,I also don't think the players would walk away for that.

Craig Levein hopes the Tartan Army lay off returning goalkeeper Allan McGregor in Scotland's friendly against Sweden in Stockholm. The Scotland boss confirmed the Rangers number one will make his international return 17 months after he was handed a lifetime ban by the Scottish Football Association for his part in the infamous 'boozegate' incident which occurred during George Burley's tenure. Levein said: "I haven't picked my whole team yet but I can say Allan will play. "I'll be honest, we will need to defend well and Allan will need to be good for us to come away from here with a clean sheet. "I hope the punters are good with him. He made a mistake, held his hands up and admitted he was wrong. "But I asked him to come back and he was delighted. He told me he was desperate to come back. "I hope he doesn't get stick from the fans but if he does then he is more than capable of dealing with it. "He has been bubbly and made some great saves in training. He's got a smile on his face and he's looking forward to the game. "Everyone knows what happened in the past and when he declared himself ready to come back and play he knew there was a chance that one or two fans might give him a bit of stick. "But these guys who have played at Rangers are used to dealing with pressure. "It was the same for Kris Boyd when he came back the last time and he got a pretty decent reception. I'm hopeful it will be the same for Allan."

The hope is that all these players have an extra season under their belt playing for Rangers,as champions, and they should know now what is required and that they up their game and start performing at a consistent level. It's a big season for a lot of the players.

ARSENAL hitkid Nacer Barazite admits he is keen to impress during his trial spell at Rangers - after being clued in on the club by former Gers favourite Arthur Numan. The Ibrox club ran the rule over the 20-year-old winger in last night's pre-season friendly defeat to Glentoran in Belfast. Barazite has been given a chance to impress Walter Smith after Gunners youth chief Liam Brady tipped him off about his availability. The Dutch Under-21 star was expected to force his way into Arsene Wenger's first-team squad last season after a fruitful loan stint at Derby when he played 36 games in the Championship. But a shoulder injury curtailed his progress at the Emirates and with the help of Brady's favourable reports he now has the chance to win a deal with the SPL champions. Coach Ian Durrant was in charge of a young Gers side last night and revealed Barazite has three weeks to impress and seal a loan switch. Durrant said: "Nacer comes highly recommended by Liam. "You can tell he has something. Arthur Numan coached him with the Dutch Under-21 squad and gave him a glowing report and you can see he has quality. "We've got him here for a threeweek trial to take a closer look." Barazite, who has a year left on his Gunners contract, admitted Numan was a big influence in his decision to try his luck at Gers. He said: "Moving to Rangers would be good for me. "It would be a step forward, not back, because they are a big club playing in the Champions League. "I met Arthur a couple of times and have spoken to him about Rangers and his experiences. "As everyone knows he is a big man at the club and was a very good player so I know all about the team thanks to him. "Liam Brady has taken me to Arsenal and I'm pleased he is trying to get me a chance at Rangers. "It was a good start for me tonight and I was pleased with my own performance but I know I can do much better with more training." Barazite was a team-mate of Scotland winger Gary Teale at Pride Park two seasons ago and he believes the Dutchman could solve Smith's search for a new wide boy. Teale, now at Sheffield Wednesday, reckons Barazite is ideally suited to Scottish football and insists if it wasn't for his injury he could have made an impact in Wenger's star-studded first-team. He said: "When Nacer left Derby, myself and the rest of the boys expected him to go back and challenge for a place in Wenger's team - that's how highly we all rated him. "I always felt, though, that if Nacer didn't make it at Arsenal he'd go to another club and do really well. I hope that can be Rangers. "Nacer has so much ability and to think he's still only 20 is incredible. He's a big, strong boy for his age - he has a great physique and I'm sure he'd do well at Rangers. "At Derby, he played down one wing and I played on the other. I think if you asked him, he'd want to play in-field a bit, either in the hole behind a striker or up front. "But he was a winger with us and at times he went past players as if they weren't there. "When he came into our training, he immediately impressed me. He wasn't like a lot of young kids who come in and take time to find their feet. Because of his size and stature, he adapted right away. "We didn't look on him as a young boy because he was so quick and strong. "He could be a real good signing for Walter and would be ideal for Scottish football because of his power." Sounds like the lad has a lot of talent,he must be worth a gamble!!

Ian Durrant has revealed Rangers will run the rule over Nacer Barazite for the rest of the month. The Ibrox coachââ?¬â?¢s initial impressions of the 20-year-old Dutch youngster were positive and he wasted no time making Walter Smith aware of his debut display in a 2-1 friendly defeat by Glentoran. ââ?¬Å?That was his first game for some time,ââ?¬Â said Durrant. ââ?¬Å?And you can see his Arsenal background with his crisp passing and nice touches. ââ?¬Å?I spoke with the gaffer after the game to inform him of my impressions of the lad and I think we have him on trial for the next two of three weeks so we will obviously be hoping to have a better look at him during that time. However, I was certainly pleased with his display. I can maybe see him with a better calibre of player around him doing very well.ââ?¬Â Durrant, in charge of a young Rangers team, also revealed that Rangers made a ââ?¬Å?couple of bidsââ?¬Â for players yesterday, one of whom is Nikica Jelavic, with talks over a sell-on fee being the final stumbling block. Rapid Vienna want a slice of any amount the Ibrox side receive in the future for selling Jelavic, but otherwise it is thought a deal is all but agreed, with the fee being Ã?£4.1m. The 24-year-old striker is currently on international duty, with Croatia playing a friendly in Slovakia tonight, but the expectation is that he will then return to Vienna to complete his move to Rangers. Although personal terms are not yet thought to have been agreed, Jelavic has made it clear he wants to move, and an offer of around Ã?£15,000 a week is expected to be signed. Rapid play a cup match on Saturday against their own amateur side, but Jelavic is unlikely to take part.
-
I think that could be due to the fact we haven't signed anybody in what seems like ten years:) I hope for the players sake he hits the ground running
-
This guy is going to have to play well and play well soon!!!,after the drawn out saga the fans will be expecting an awful lot from him,he is under pressure already to produce:)
-
SSN saying Rangers and Rapid have agreed a fee of £3.5m,however the deal has stalled due to the player in dispute with Rapid regarding a sell on fee,a wee bit of a step forward although we already knew this

Another name to add to the pot,Robbie Rogers [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNkdvl2oVMc]YouTube- Robbie Rogers[/ame]

77 mins - Barazite's night comes to an end too and he is replaced by Max Wright. The Dutchman put in a decent shift and it will be interesting to see what Ian Durrant's verdict is on him after the game.

Rangers make bids for mystery pair Ian Durrant has revealed Rangers have made a “couple of bids” for players on Tuesday, as the SPL champions attempt to bolster their squad in time for the new season. The coach, in Northern Ireland to manage a young Rangers team against Glentoran, will run the rule over Arsenal’s Nacer Barazite in the fixture. Negotiations are ongoing for Rapid Vienna striker Nikica Jelavic to come to Ibrox, with a fee having been agreed between both clubs. But Durrant hinted that offers had been made for additional personnel beyond the Croatian, as Walter Smith steps up his efforts to increase the quantity within his ranks. “We hope to bring in, we need to bring in,” Durrant said on Tuesday. “We need to bring in the numbers we’ve lost. We’ve lost seven players this year and it leaves us short in terms of personnel. “It’s not through the want of trying. We’re surveying every avenue in terms of trying to bring players in. There’s also been a couple of bids tabled today for players.” Durrant stopped short of revealing who Rangers had made a move for. But Honduran striker Georgie Welcome could be one player Smith may look to add, having had the Motagua player on trial for the past 10 days. Other names that have been linked with the Ibrox club in recent weeks and months include Dundee United pair David Goodwillie and Craig Conway, as well as South African pair Katlego Mphela and Bongani Khumalo. Rangers are yet to make any signings this summer, having lost six first team players in the close season. Kevin Thomson and Danny Wilson left the club for a combined Ã?£4 million, while Nacho Novo, Kris Boyd, Steven Smith and DaMarcus Beasley were all left under freedom of contract. While the move for Jelavic is believed to be close, pending the player settling a financial dispute with his current club, Rangers missed out on Chris Eagles earlier in the transfer window. The Burnley winger, who travelled to Glasgow for signing talks, elected to stay with the English Championship club instead. http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/rangers/191072-rangers-make-bids-for-mystery-pair/

Craig Bellamy talks of quitting football
ian1964 replied to ian1964's topic in General Football Chat
The BHEAST frenzy has started over on KDS already:) -
Craig Bellamy says he could quit football if he fails to make Manchester City's 25-man squad for this season. New rules mean each Premier League squad must now be capped, and the Wales captain feels he is not certain to be registered by manager Roberto Mancini. "If I don't get in the squad I don't know what I will do," said 31-year-old Bellamy, who revealed he has rejected an offer to join German club Wolfsburg. "I might finish, full stop. Or look at every option. This game is ruthless." Striker Bellamy - who is set to win his 59th international cap on Wednesday when Wales take on Luxembourg in a friendly in Llanelli - has rich competition in the forward department at Eastlands. Bellamy fears for Man City future Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez are considered lead centre forwards while City boss Mancini has Paraguay star Roque Santa Cruz and Brazilian international Jo at his disposal, and is also looking to add exciting young Italian forward Mario Balotelli to the mix. Allied to that, Bellamy and Mancini both had to deny falling out with each other last season as the club narrowly failed to land a place in the European Champions League. "I feel strongly that I can offer something at the club," Bellamy added. I really enjoy playing for Manchester City. I think I have shown that with my commitment Craig Bellamy "[but] I sort of feel I am not going to be part of it. I can see it from a distance. I find that very difficult to take because I really enjoy playing for Manchester City. I think I have shown that with my commitment this year." Bellamy was bought by former City boss Mark Hughes for £14m in January 2009 and went on to enjoy arguably his finest season. But amid apparent unrest, Tottenham and a host of other clubs were reported to be interested in Bellamy. "I've had a few options. I've turned down Wolfsburg. I don't fancy Germany, it's not somewhere I see myself playing football," the striker continued. 606: DEBATE Will Bellamy made the cut? If not, is he really serious about retirement? "With this 25-man ruling, it doesn't matter how well I train or how good my attitude is, I might not be registered to play. "So do I go without playing football until January, or do I find myself a club where I can play football? I am committed to stay where I am. "I feel I deserve to be part of it, but I don't pick the 25 or the team. I have to wait on their decision." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/8902161.stm

Aye,no doubt about it he is a frustrating player, but for the life of me I still think he has something to offer:confused: but for his price tag he is surely running out of time, maybe this will be his season:spl:
