Cardiff City offer £2M for Goodwillie
Super_Ally replied to 54andcounting's topic in Rangers Chat
Strange outlook on things imo. -
'Astonishing'. Why are they not laughed at for coming out with these things?
-
Not overly enthused by this one tbh. Be as well using a striker from the youths. Not convinced he has an awful lot to offer other than being a fan.
-
It still all boils down to the fact that really you are summarising a week and dressing it up as a month. It's quite daft really.

Not often I agree with Gazza, but I dont think you can accuse him of selective memory. For many fans only really the Celtic game stands out as one where he had a nightmare, but it is the nature of judging a players season performance that one or two things are forgotten. It is a testament to how well he performed that people can only immediately recall one game where he had a 'mare along with a half remembered but un-named one or two others. If indeed Weir had even 4 or 5 crap games out of what, maybe, 40-50 played then it would be a bit harsh to blame that on his age. Not even a POTY award winner would go a full season without having half a dozen poor or anonymous games. I can see both sides of the argument and I am not sure which side I am on myself but I dont think that Gav was too far wrong with his assessment of Weir's contribution last year.

No one has said he is immune from criticism. People, not just myself, are questioning why you think it is valid to appriase him overall and criticise him when he has only had effectively a week in the job. It is pretty absurd really. In another post you say you are very positive about other aspects of his lengthy tenure so far. I find that absurd too. To me the entire McCoist debate so far that you have sparked is typical of the snap judgements you have made on here before. I remember your opinions on Lafferty flip-flopping quite wildly too. No one is attacking the right to criticise club employees. People, mosly myself admittedly, are questioning the requirement, the value of and the rationale behind judging someone after a ridiculously short period of time and also judging them on something they have a far smaller input to (completing transfers) than several others at the club.

I can only assume this is the effect of the internet age and everyone having access to immediate and up to date news at their fingertips.

You need to explain how? And maybe the reason you are the main "target" is because you started a thread about it and are the staunchest supporter of the view point. I am genuinely amazed that people are talking in such a manner before the manager has had any time to do anything (PLG was months into the actual competitive aspect of the season before a real groundswell of opinion went against him). I truly find it bizarre. And craig is right, much of what you are questioning the manager for is actually more the "fault" of the chairman and perhaps Smith. I put fault in quotation marks because Smith is only two minutes through the door and the chairman must act responsibly within the financial framework that exists. Perhaps you should be starting threads questioning the players involved instead?
-
I haven't moved the goalposts and you are (at least starting to judge) a manager based on a month in the job when he has been on holiday for a large percentage of that time and many people in football, most notably players, are still on holiday.

Dundee Utd release a strange statement about Goodwillie
Super_Ally replied to Danny's topic in Rangers Chat
Long enough to jugde the manager as struggling! -
I think a sensible course of action would be to make judgements on a new manager when he's actually had time to make an impact and not making snap judgements. And no, Danny, I dont believe your point stands. My one you quoted does however. Football fans do not, as a very general rule, lambast managers for the club being unable to entice a player due to the financial package on offer or the standard of league and country the club operates in,
-
You're confusing the issue here. Manager's are judged retrospectively on signings they did make. In this instance we are discussing signings not made.
-
He, Danny, asserted an opinion which few seem to agree with. It is not fact that any potential signing has not signed specifically because our manager is inexperienced.
-
Smacks a little bit of panic and also a little ridiculous. Just how can you ask people to judge a manager in the close season when there's been no football, when the transfer window has only been open a short time and most people in football, including the manager in question, have been on holiday. Much of what people would be judging him on at this time would actually be the actions (or inaction) of the chairman and others directly involved in the transfer dealings.
-
Not sure there was much of a difference between the two, though stats may prove me wrong but looking back on it I felt the challenge provided was much the same.
-
You've been doing a lot of reading then!!! I'm sure there will be signings where the media haven't had a sniff beforehand. We usually manage to pull a few of those out.
-
Maybe the Cuellar and Bartley rumours will be true?
-
I understand what you were saying. A league winning season is what counts. I would just be careful how I made that point. Also just because we lost does not mean Smith got the tactics in the UEFA final wrong. He could have played the "right" tactics that the armchair fans demanded and still got beat, or even lost by and even larger margin.

Was all on board until the humiliated in Europe. The SPL is the be all and end all and I don't expect us to win anything in Europe, but being competitive is a minimum requirement. (Definitions of competitive may vary )

Speirs should still be the first target for a ban.

What was the game in the last season or two where he had the sky guys at the Man U game wheel out a monitor where he could watch the Rangers game before United took to the field? May have been an OF game he was watching. There were pictures of this online.
