  1. I'm sure our Manager will be fully behind this boycott, the Sun being almost a proscribed publication in Liverpool owing to it's reporting after Hillsborough.
  2. I like the Brian Clough quotes - "I wouldn't say I was the best manager in the business. But I was in the top one" and “We talk about it for 20 minutes and then we decide I was right”
  3. AR technology should only be called on to reverse “clear and obvious” mistakes regarding offside, according to the general secretary of the law-making International Football Association Board. The weekend’s Premier League fixtures featured a number of marginal offside decisions which were checked by VAR, with goals ruled out for Wolves, Crystal Palace, Norwich, Brighton and Sheffield United. Lukas Brud said the Ifab will reissue guidance on best practice regarding VAR to competitions which use it, probably after its annual general meeting at the end of February next year, which will include information on offsides. In general terms, that advice will be that technology cannot definitively make a ruling on offside as it can over whether a shot has crossed the goal line, and that therefore VAR should only be used to correct “clear and obvious” mistakes. “Clear and obvious still remains - it’s an important principle. There should not be a lot of time spent to find something marginal,” Brud told PA Sport. “If something is not clear on the first sight, then it’s not obvious and it shouldn’t be considered. Looking at one camera angle is one thing but looking at 15, trying to find something that was potentially not even there, this was not the idea of the VAR principle. It should be clear and obvious.” The Ifab stressed the guidance on offside will not be new advice, and will be a routine update to stakeholders that has nothing to do with events in England this weekend. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/dec/30/var-should-only-be-used-for-clear-and-obvious-offside-errors-say-law-makers

  5. It's questionable if it takes 2 minutes to decide. When you see the referee at the screen looking at the incident played several times, it is clear that it is not a clear and obvious decision and in that case I believe an offside should not be given. I think the default position should be that no offense has taken place (penalty, offside or whatever) unless it is clear and obvious. I'm not arguing that VAR should not be introduced. All I'm saying is that it's use needs to be refined from what is happening at present.
  6. It's good that Rangers have put out this statement and it shows that we are leading the discussion on refereeing decisions. I have my doubts about VAR. The experience in England does not sell it well. In the cases cited in the Rangers statement the correct decision was clearcut and VAR would have shown this. However, as in England, where part of a player's upper body is arguably a centimeter offside and it takes minutes to come to a decision, VAR is questionable. It's probably inevitable that it will come to Scottish football and the point the Club make about the game in Scotland being left behind is valid. Those clubs in Scotland that aspire to European football should recognise that regardless of their reservations, to be treated as a serious league it needs to keep up to date with the prevailing technology. Rangers are leading the way here and that's good to see. I would like to hear whether other clubs have anything worthwhile to say on the matter. We're starting to lead the way on the field with our style of play. it looks like we're starting to lead the way on suggesting how Scottish football can move forward.
  7. Best Wishes to all and many thanks for a great website.
  8. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. If we qualify from the group stage, we can think of the bigger fish to fry. What i'm impressed with the team under Gerrard is how players have improved. It did not happen immediately but this season has seen a step up in performance of Jack and Barisic in particular. Now that Jack is allowed to play in a more expansive role than he was for Aberdeen, he is showing his true potential. Barisic is now playing with more confidence. As for Morelos, he is like a new player this year. Sometimes i wonder if we now have his even tempered, equally talented, twin brother.
  9. I didn't t know that paying by credit card resulted in the club getting the money over a period.
  10. Congratulations to Ryan Jack. His play has developed in the Rangers team. He has taken to the Gerrard style and he is more positive now. Whether he will be allowed an expansive role within the Scotland, we will see.
  11. All I remember of the old Love Street was going there in the late 60s. It rained all day. Stood on the terracing behind the goal. Soaked to the skin.
  12. You would have thought that one of the many multi-millionaire footballers in and around Manchester and Liverpool could do the decent thing.
  13. Club website is contradictory. It says : Full coverage worldwide including the UK and Ireland. This is a live match. This one is ONLY available to people outside UK and ROI. Don't buy this if you are intending to watch in UK/ROI - your location will be detected at the time of viewing and you will not be able to watch
