I understand it's easier said than done when it comes to transfers mate. I just think we could have been a bit quicker off the mark and benefited in Europe especially.
-
I find that statement a bit puzzling. You think Wallace is miles better than Papac yet he's a long way off being good enough for Europe despite Papac contributing very well on that front over the years. Do you think we'd have conceded the goals we did in Maribor (or indeed in the home leg) if Papac has been playing?
-
No, I'm not a huge fan of Papac (and his failure to close down crosses infuriates me as well). I also think Wallace is the ideal successor and am looking forward to seeing him improve over the coming years. As it stands though, he's still very raw and arguably not as defensively strong as what Papac is. To that end, he has a long way to go before we can be consider better than the Bosnian.
-
I'm a bit disappointed by our transfer activity but also realistic in terms of what is possible. Generally I'm comfortable enough in the squad we have but am frustrated at how slow our dealings were.
-
Fair enough analysis but not sure how you think Wallace is better than Papac 'by a distance'? Sure the lad has done OK and seems decent enough going forward but he was also found wanting for both goals in Maribor. Until he wins several trophies like Papac has done, plays regularly internationally like the Bosnian does and delivers the same kind of reliable consistency over a number of years, I'll defer my own judgement.

New feature is the Gersnet Player of the Month for August (and end of July)... Feel free to make your own choice below and we'll see what the forum's opinion is. For your consideration, you may wish to take into account the following: Main site MotM v Hearts - Steven Davis Main site MotM v Malmo (L1) - Allan McGregor Main site MotM v St Johnstone - Steven Naismith Main site MotM v Malmo (L2) - Steven Davis Main site MotM v Maribor - Dorin Goian Main site MotM v Motherwell - Steven Davis Main site MotM v Aberdeen - Allan McGregor My choice is :sd: Although he's been disappointing in a few games, he's been our best player in most of the matches so far and has taken the captain's responsibility well. I sincerely hope the likes of McKay and Bedoya will assist him creatively so we can see Davis perform well throughout the season. As ever, well done to McGregor who remains a fantastic goalie and so far Dorin Goian looks like a bargain buy at the back.

Hearts fan case in Lennon attack.... NOT PROVEN
Frankie replied to craig's topic in General Football Chat
Only one person heard the alleged sectarian insult so it was inevitable that needless addition to the assault charge was going to be difficult to prove. Ergo, if anyone is to blame for the bizarre conclusion to this case, it's the prosecution for doing what seems to be common by adding the usual unnecessary bigotry angle to an issue that it doesn't apply to. Meanwhile, this moron has essentially got off with a clear disgraceful assault (though thankfully he has already served several months in jail on remand). Bigotry is becoming hard to avoid in Scotland because we have people sensationalising what is a very small problem at every turn for their own questionable ends. Be it politicians or so-called journalists, it's a shame that society is finding it difficult to rid itself of the genuine disease because some people want to erroneously infer the problem is prevalent in almost every subject we talk about. -
I'd like to have seen us sign another striker but hopefully this will mean McCoist is forced to give Healy more of a chance. The Ulsterman isn't the best player in the world but he's done OK when we have seen small glimpses of him. Imperative now, that the manager gives him more game-time where possible as I think Jelavic, Lafferty and Naismith will all miss games over the season.

Agreed. Quite refreshing if a bit too in-depth at times.

Andy Little has gone to Port Vale on loan until January...
-
I think this has been discussed a fair amount previously. Whyte obviously feels he can improve the club via a different strategy from the previous regime - including new investment that has, so far, failed to materialise.
-
As it stands, we're still in debt. The debt was only moved from LBG to the Rangers Group (formerly Wavetower) who have, at this stage, only said they will waive the debt at some point in the future.

Funnily enough, I think they mention £40million... -
Rangers reject £6.5 million offer for Jelavic

RFC have said to Sky and the BBC, Jelavic will not be sold unless it is for 'silly' money... -
The Fleck and Hutton stories aren't true while the McEachran rumour is unlikely.

Rangers reject £6.5 million offer for Jelavic
Frankie replied to 26th of foot's topic in Rangers Chat
I don't have a problem with it myself. -
Yeah, I'd imagine the injury wasn't serious enough for him to travel while the Romanian team doctor will have to assess his fitness on arrival and decide on his availability. Club's don't have much of a say which is pretty poor given the investment they put into the players compared to the international sides. Goian has been one bright spark of an average season so far and if he has a knee problem then I'd hope his fitness isn't risked at any point.

Rangers reject £6.5 million offer for Jelavic
Frankie replied to 26th of foot's topic in Rangers Chat
If RFC want to sell (and it seems certainly possible) then it is in their interests to get the bid public to increase the price. Hopefully, the opposite is true and they only highlighted the rejection to allay supporter's fears but it's difficult to know for sure. -
Good news but if he's not 'in the clear', then surely he shouldn't have travelled on international duty?

Rangers reject £6.5 million offer for Jelavic
Frankie replied to 26th of foot's topic in Rangers Chat
Good to see you on Gersnet mate. As for Jelavic, it wouldn't surprise me to see him sold as without any European football that means we have to find around £8million to avoid going further into debt by the same amount next year. Obviously that also means, as Gazza suggests, any replacement would be from the bargain bin, not a quality player. -
It's the Sheridan stuff that makes the whole thing just seem so unlikely. Yet the rumour has persisted for a while now apparently.

I was informed of the Davies rumour last night and (as I said on Twitter) I don't particularly believe it myself - though the person who told me is usually reliable. I wasn't going to post it because it seemed so outlandish but I felt getting the rumour into the public domain might ensure it is quashed once and for all!
