Jelavic is at his best with another player alongside him. Without this support, the big man struggles to create much via the countless long balls aimed towards him. Moreover, Lafferty is a lot of things but a deep lying central 'hole' player he is not. If we must play someone there, then it should be Naismith, Bedoya or Fleck who have the ability to link the play better than the Ulsterman.

Yeah, this is quite a difficult question to answer. The young lad has done very well so far and I wasn't overly impressed with Boca in the first match. As such, I'd be tempted to start Perry and filter Boca into the team over the coming weeks. Are Jamie Murphy and Michael Higdon better than what Maribor have to offer? That's the question Ally will have to answer before making his decision.

I sincerely doubt it. Hopefully the players use this protest to spur them on tomorrow.

Don't think so mate. S_A said we had rejected a bid during last week's press conference.

Rumours are @GreggWylde27 has agreed a new contract with Rangers. http://willievass.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/240811-Rangers-training/G0000Xn7e8E5b3q8/I0000ltIDyd1M7dI

Bannan is a defensive midfielder so probably not a priority. A decent price quote there though but I'd imagine Villa would want more cash.

Stop The Bus! I Think Someone Left the Transfer Kitty in Malmo
Frankie replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
I think it's only fair to ask the question given the comments made directly (or indirectly) by the new owner about our budgets. However, it's also fair to note that budgets can change and when we consider the obvious impact no CL football has on our finances (we're down £15million right away) then I'd rather the club were prudent rather than wasteful. Generally, I think we've done quite well in the market so far. We've strengthen the squad and brought in some experienced players who are capable of improving the team and our SPL challenge. All for minimal outlay. I'd like to see us make one more signing though as I think we need some creative and goalscoring cover - Jamie Murphy would be ideal as he's represent good value. However, I also wouldn't mind some experience up front but that would mean having to move one (or both) of Beattie and Healy on as they currently supposedly offer that without it seems being trusted by the manager to do so. I'd be surprised if we didn't sign at least one more player via the EPL 25-man squad clearing lists.- 19 replies

Maribor lodge protest over Carlos Bocanegra eligibility
Frankie replied to Jim1955's topic in Rangers Chat
I'm sure UEFA will know by now the problems Rangers are facing with regard to campaigns led by so called 'journalists'. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do when such people transfer their hate to others who are easily misled or those that make money out of the associated sensationalism and negativity. No crime is being committed as far as I can see so all Rangers can do is attempt to be pro-active in how they deal with such bitter individuals. -
Can't remember mate but I think Healy scored as well.

Clearly, Diouf's failings as a person are exaggerated by some while ignoring similar from others (e.g. Lennon or Bellamy) but all in all he didn't do enough on the pitch last season to warrant signing him this term. You can see the lad is a decent football player but his lack of pace and the circus that surrounds him detracts from any quality he does have.
-
I think it's been obvious throughout Lafferty's Rangers career that he does have the raw talent/potential to be a decent player but for a variety of reasons (injury, playing out of position, poor attitude and unreasonable fan expectation due to his fee) he's not delivered consistently enough to make him popular. It's an exaggeration for anyone to suggest they've been his only supporter since he signed as I feel most people have acknowledged the fact he looks a fairly exciting prospect when fully fit and playing up front. The problem for Lafferty is that his good form just has not been regular enough. As with most bears, I hope the end of last season and his start to this is the beginning of him maturing into the fine, mobile striker he should be.
-
As far as I know Rhys Murphy scored for us in a friendly yesterday.
-
While I agree with the general point, Naismith is suspended for Thursday so Edu will probably be recalled to play alongside Davis.

What's the problem mate? Welcome to the forums!

Rangers storm to the top of the SPL with convincing away win in sunny Lanarkshire. http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/2010/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=433:motherwell-0-3-rangers-player-ratings-and-mom-poll&catid=35:analysis&Itemid=67 :sd: One or two average performances this season aside, our new captain really has thrived with the added responsibility. Seemed to be everywhere on the park yesterday and only disappointment was his Bertie-yarder that didn't quite dip enough before hitting the bar. Nods of approval for Goian (again), Naismith and Ortiz in particular. Also very happy with McMillan and Perry.
-
I agree to an extent but that doesn't explain the lad's own short-comings. He appears incapable of concentrating for a full 90mins week after week and is almost always reactive instead of anticipative. Add in a lack of quality (his touch is very poor at times) then it's difficult to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. I do think there is a player there but three years after we signed him, we're still struggling to develop that raw potential into consistent quality. Perhaps it's time to cash those chips in?

Maribor 2 - 1 Rangers: Player Ratings and MoM Poll
Frankie replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Yeah, not much to disagree with there mate. It was a strange game actually. We seemed to struggle for periods but always looked likely to create a bit of space in behind the Slovenian defence. We just struggled with the final pass/cross. -
Rangers lose important European tie amid farcical defending and further profligacy in attack. http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/2010/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=432:maribor-2-1-rangers-player-ratings-and-mom-poll&catid=35:analysis&Itemid=67 :dg: The big man looks a snip at less than £1million and already looks like our best centre half. Really was Jekyll and Hyde performance from other players. Lots of decent work ruined after half-time.

Gersnet Predictions League - in association with Clydesdale Bank
Frankie replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Remember to make your predictions folks... -
This link may refresh your memory: http://www.rangers.co.uk/articles/20020228/feyenoord-3-rangers-2_2254702_17417 Loved McCann but what an idiot!
-
They've just got £1.8million for funding this new intelligence unit, so I'd like to think such sites will be closed down when concerned citizens are offended.
-
McCann in Feyenoord goes close for me. But this game was even more important and when you add in his mistake in the first leg, then I hope Whittaker paid a heavy financial penalty for his indiscretions. FWIW, I think the lad will learn from it and come back a better player.
-
Well, clearly his strengths are more defensive ones as opposed to attacking. He's a decent tackler, has an excellent first touch and works hard on the flank - supporting the attack and defence. As such, in games where we perhaps would be less inclined to dominate and thus possibly not want to play a more attacking player/winger; Ortiz should offer us an option there. For example, in Malmo the other week, he had a good game in a match where we had to be conservative as opposed to gung ho - especially when we had men sent off.
